This video is the perfect response to those who comment on magic videos on Youtube, "Stop spoiling the magic by revealing how it is done. Can't you guys just watch and enjoy?"
Wow. This is the first time I have seen his original presentation. Everybody else pales by comparison don't they? Perfect timing and misdirection. So many small subtleties I have not seen done. Great.
Slydini was the greatest! Among magicians, he was without equal. Many of the great ones said that they could not be fooled anymore by anyone but Slydini. He invented closeup magic, and his influence will always be remembered. Take Care, Good Buddy!
Tony was the greatest of all time! I was so lucky to have him perform for me in Al Cohen's magic shop, to see his parlor act, and to see him on stage. The same type of magic in all cases, yet it charmed in all settings. There was never anyone like Tony.
Hi Guyz - Just a simple comment about this Master ... Yes he DID perform for laymen and regular folks - later on in life he MOSTLY lectured for magicians ... Slydini's magic was mostly impromptu, he usally the audience dictate his show ... Remember he was doing this since the 1920's if I am not mistaken - I remember some time ago sitting in on Darwin at Mostly Magic in NY ... And we talked about how beautiful his magic seemed to the layman ... Anyways as always ... May U All B Blessed

Hey, guys!
He was a great magician, but he mainly performed and lectured for magicians. Besides, I'm not the only one saying this.
Ever heard of Darwin Ortiz, worlds greatest card manipulator and handler says the same in his book "Strong Magic"
This was his way of performing, adapted to his style and persona. He is a legend, but his challlenge attitude was not well fitted for laypeople, and it didn't really bother or stop him in any way, because he MAINLY performed for magicians
Remember this. He only did magic for magicians. He spent his entire life performing and lecturing magic for magicians, not laymen. As these can nearly be called extreme opposits, his act worked for magicians, but NEVER,
promagics post is not correct. Tony Slydini perfomed for the public in carnivals and sideshows, in South American vaudeville, on TV in the USA and the Uk and in Boston for over seven years. Theer are reports of his perfomance in Higard's Magic Monthly in 1958. His inventive original approach changed the face of magic. Dia Vernon was a fan - what better recommendation!
Remember this. He only did magic for magicians. He spent his entire life performing and lecturing magic for magicians, not laymen. As these can nearly be called extreme opposits, his act worked for magicians, but NEVER,
NEVER for laypeople. It may sound as though I'm angry, but I'm not. Remember that although it is a demonstration and very fun to watch, he sets the attitude where it goes like this: If you catch me, you win. If you don't catch me, you loose.
Promagictricks is correct. Anyone who said Tony Slydini performed for laypeople all of the time is a dumb motherfucker. He performed almost exclusively for magicians. he did perform occasionally for laypeople but it was once in a while and not for any real length of time.
As a general rule this is probably true - but not for Slydini. Presentation and perfoming character need to match and they did with Slydini. I saw him perform live several times and it was 'magical' - the nearest thing to real magic. In the Hugard report of the 1958show to lay people it says "Slydini took the stage and enchanted, mystified and put the audience in his pocket. There was no question about it - Slydinin stole the show."
You must be a pretty great magician to be "teaching" the great Slydini how to perform magic. So obviously you must be very famous far and wide. Care to reveal your true identity here so that we might personally praise your famous work?
The one problem I have had with table magic is that I would feel bad if I did catch the magician. I mean, it is a trick, and we both know it. Now the idea is to have me not aware of misdirection and so be genuinely surprised by a trick. I want to be looking to see how he/she does it! But I don't want to catch them.
Standard rule yes. But part of being a transcendent master is knowing when and how to break the rules. I can show you parallel fifths in Bach's counterpoint. He knew when and how to make it work. Similarly with Slydini. He was above the "rules" that us mere mortals cling to.
It still is! Magic is more popular now than ever before, and thats a good thing because Magicians will pay to see Magicians more than most people! I've seen Burton 4 times, and D.C 6! Magic has become a lot more socialy acceptable in recent years.
Interesting topic of both of you. Today, it is true that a lot of magicians pay in order to see magic. But, at the same time, because of media and even because of some (many) "magicians" (i.e. youtube too), in commonsense and for "ordinary people" magic means puzzle or simple tricks. No, effects, no surprises, no suspence, no emotions, no "magical atmosfere" (Ascanio). It's a shame.
Good morning to you! I'm an italian magician, a very fan of the great masters of magic and Slydini is a God in this world...I ask you to submit a name for you in you tube search: MONITOR200. He's an italian magician who have decided to destroy the world of magician. I hope you see him, and you help us to stop him! Thank you!
The explanation is infinitely more delightful, exciting, and impressive than the performance. It's why people watch and why magicians invent. Ignorance is the only word to describe people like you.
sometimes. So far I've found that the audience is just cracking up at the trick, and the person I am doing it for thinks they are laughing because they don't know where the ball went either.
This way the audience and the person reinforce each other.

DON'T EVER SAY "TRY TO CATCH ME" IN AN ACT, OR IN ANY TRICK AT ALL!!!
This catch-me-if-you-can attitude is not to reccomend for anyone at all!
It changes fantastic magic tricks into mere puzzles!
promagictricks 3 years ago
It was a demonstration of misdirection, it's a joke for the audience, it's not meant to be magic.
Cyclonebg 3 years ago
But his attitude is like this all the time!
promagictricks 3 years ago
Well, in any case, it doesn't work for anybody but Slydini is one of the greatest magicians of all time and it obviously worked for him.
