I found this in search of a duet to surprise my mezzo/soprano girlfriend with, as I play the viola. The video description lists this as the second of two such duets by Brahms; where can I find a recording, or at least the title, of the first? The name/author of any other viola-mezzo/soprano duets you know of would also be much appreciated. I'd like to listen to as many as possible before choosing one to surprise her with.
It's because of the color of your voice. Also where you break. You had to open to a full "ah" sound on the word "schlummert." When you go down to the D on the second "schlummert," you get totally lost...the voila eats you up. Mezzos have good dynamics down there. Sorry, cookie. Get away from that teacher that thinks you're a mezzo.
Why do you think I'm a lyric? I have had a couple of other people tell me similar things, but all of my teachers/coaches have felt after much debate that I'm a mezzo.
I found you because I was cruising for the Brahms because I love it, it makes me cry, and I needed a good cry.
Then I saw the comments and wanted to add my 2 cents. If you are in your 20's, let me say there is no hurry to label yourself any kind of voice. Sing what you love and develop both ends of your range and see where you are in 10 years. Try to find teachers that will help you do that. Listen to yourself, your body and your own heart.

By the way, great job! You have a great voice.

Jennifer, you are a lyric soprano. I don't believe you are a mezzo, but you do sound lovely on this Brahms.
