  • This is an awesome and great money-saving idea! Thanks for sharing :-)

  • You're very welcome! Thank you for watching! :)

  • Hi Laura, Just wondering, do you put the cake directly on the foam core boards instead of a cardboard cake board?

  • Hi! I put the cake itself directly on cardboard cake boards. The foam core boards are used only as the cake bases. :)

  • where do you buy your foam core? the 1/2 inch

  • I usually purchase it at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

  • you wrote in your video description: "I use 1/4' foam core for the actual cake boards and I use the 1/2" foam core for the cake bases"...I was wondering what is the difference between cake boards and cake bases? please and thank you =]

  • HI! The cake boards are the actual thin boards that go UNDER each tier. The cake boards are the HUGE ones at the bottom that the entire cake sits on. That's what you actually use to carry and lift the cake. :) Hope this helps. :0)

  • you can even glue your foam boards together before you cut them.. fabulous!! i wish i had the SPACE for it... unfortunately, my little condo is running out of room for all my cake stuff... ^_^ meanwhile, i'll be xacto-ing my way through cake boards for now =)

  • I know what you mean about not having space! LOL! I keep this scroll saw under the table and then take it out every time I'm gonna use it. :)

  • I also use this method to cut cake boards. If you use a multi speed saw on a lower speed combined with finer blades you could throw the nail file away. great vid

  • AWESOME!!! Great to know! Thanks! :) I'm thinking of buying myself a new saw soon since this one's pretty old! :)

  • WE!!!

  • LUCKY!!!

  • lol.. you call your dad papi! i do 2 were are u from??

  • El Paso, Texas! How about you? :)

  • Costa Rica !!!

  • What a beautiful place you are in! You are blessed! I'm stuck in the middle of the desert! There are tumbleweeds blowing around my house as I type this! LOL!

  • What a great Pops you've got! I too need to start doing this...thanks for the video, love your efficiency and thanks for the laugh.

  • Thanks Sonya! Glad you liked it! :)

  • Love your sense of humour! Fantastic that you've found an efficient way to make cake boards. I'll be sticking to store bought MDF boards over here :) but I love the video anyway!

  • Thanks Sarah! :)

  • Laura!!! que lindo que tu papito te haya dado este cortador.. es genial, que suerte tienes!!! muchos cariños. Claudia.

  • Gracias Claudia! Si mi Papi es MUY lindo y siempre me ayuda! Es una bendicion! Besos y abrazos amiga! :)

  • I want one too for know I use my hubby as the exacto knife...LOL in other words he does all the cutting :)

  • That is so adorable! I can just picture him! Well, with one of these, he can cut you 10 cakeboards in the same time it would have taken him to cut one! :) Que sirva de algo! Hahahah! No te creas Mari! Seguramente es un hombre muy lindo como tu eres linda! :)

  • SO cool!! I want one too! Is this similar to the one they use in Charm City Cakes to trim gumpaste?

  • Hi Rheena! To be honest with you, I've never seen them use a machine to cut gumpaste, but it's what they use to cut foam core, plywood (you know for their huge wooden cake bases), and styrofoam! There's a million things you can use this saw for! I love it! :)

  • Will try to recall which episode it was but it was a dry gumpaste box of some sort with a chip and instead of sanding they used a machine to clean it up. Your new "toy" is so cool! Maybe you should consider selling the boards you cut! :) Extra income :)

  • It's funny because after I thought about it I said to myself, "well, why not? Why not gumpaste?". I started picturing myself cutting gumpaste with it. It would be very easy to do! I'm gonna probably try to get me a sander soon. This will be good for styrofoam and sanding the edges of my boards! :) I would LOVE to sell them! Hey everyone! If anyone wants to buy them, just let me know!!! Hee hee! LOL! Talk to you soon Rheena! Can't wait to see your next cake girl! :)

  • is this a fun project or do you have to cut your own cake board each time you bake? we have shops selling cake boards here. if i have to cut my own board, i doubt i'll be baking!!! hahaha..but you are quite good at it.

  • Yes! It is very fun for me! If it wasn't, I don't think I'd be doing it... :) We have all kinds of cake supply stores and craft stores here as well, but the foam core boards are very expensive and I just can't afford to be forking over that kind of money everytime I'm gonna make a cake. What I especially love about this also is that I can cut the cake board into whatever shape I want. If you ask your craft store to cut it for you they charge an arm and a leg! LOL! :)

  • sweeeet!!! makes everything easy! DADDY's are life saver .......always!

  • Yes! They are! :) He's a real blessing to me! In every way! :)

  • AAHHHHHH...I so want one !!!!!! I look at my knofe and it wants to cry from all the hard work I put it through .... haha... great job amiga! This gives handy hubbys a hand in some of our fellow cakers here :)

  • It really was amazing that my Dad just happened to have an extra one Mayen! I'm gonna make a little funeral for my Xacto knifes. Hee hee! They're in pretty bad shape! LOL!

  • I want one of those, Laura.

  • I was just about starting to save money for it and my Dad's like, "I got an extra one if you want it...", and I was like, "WHAT???? ARE YOU SERIOUS??? OMG! YES!!!". You can imagine how ecstatic I was!!! LOL! :)

  • Do you mean "width" or "thicknesses?"

    Thanks:)

    BOP

  • Hi BOP! LOL! Width AND thickness. Thanks for commenting AGAIN! This AudioSwap function is a piece of work! :)

  • 3rd time:)

    Awsome!

    Thanks:)
