Cool, accidentally stumbled upon this through related videos, and glad I found this! Tried to find it on Amazon to purchase but it doesn't have it, you should make it available there! Anyways, I just purchased it from your web site! Thanks for doing it, hoping to get it soon!
By the way, I'm in the local Ukrainian dance ensemble (Seattle Barvinok), and it's hard, just like this video says, but also so cool! I need to do more stretching, more gymnastics, more ballet, more Ukrainian dancing, oh...
I love seeing traditions such as folk dance and song being carried on. I think everyone needs to remember where we are from and be proud of who we are. Traditions are dying out and it is a scary thing.
holy shit i went to vehovina dance camp in upstate ny and all of these people were our fuckin teachers! rema proma bohachivski was my personal teacher, vesna was our group! i evan attended her funeral in nyc!
"Folk!" will be screening in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 24th for FREE at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art on Wilshire Boulevard. Pre-screening reception begins around 8pm! Q&A with Director and cast members will occur after screening.
Thanks so much for attending the screening last night! Im glad it went over well!
Yep, still have a chunk of change to pay before it gets on DVD, but that is our final goal! Tell your friends and family to donate, until then you can always get some "Ukrainians are More Fun" T-shirts on our website!
haha, you should have tried to find a different teacher, although there probably wasn't at the time. now, however, my instructor holds classes in english.
and just to let you know, i have seen 1, but only 1, black kid do ukrainian dancing. im sure there are some more so you wouldn't have been alone.
I had Roma Pryma Bohachevsky as an adjudicator twice in my hometown of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada about 15 years ago. I'm so happy I came across this documentary, and I wish I would have been able to dance under her. Is the full video available for purchase?
Just came across this clip.Terrific bit of nostalgia. I danced many years ago (40 odd years ago)and still remember the pre event nerves and the hard yards of tired muscles. We still have some talent over here in Australia so watch out World.
Okay, now rather than writing argumentative comments, by being a typical Ukrainian, of who is better than who, we are all unique and so awesome at what we do. Roma Pryma Bohachevsky was phenomenal and came as a disciplinarian that taught us more than just the dance... So we are all phenomenal!
Sorry but the best Ukrainian dancers (outside of Ukraine) live in Edmonton, AB. Home of Shumka, Cheremosh, Vohon, & Volya. Need I say more. Now, if only if this were to come out soon!
i agree:) i'm going to see vohon on saturday. haven't seen them in so long. a few friends and people that i danced with have been through them. always a good show.
Durak! Ukrainian - Remember the cossacks and how they defended Europe from the Turks...without the brave cossacks Eastern Europeans and maybe the West would be speaking Turkish by now!
The spirit of the Cossacks lives on in a free and Independent Ukraine!! SLAVA UKRAINE!!!
For info on any upcoming screenings just check out our KinoRox website. We don't anticipate having one for a few months as we are entering film fests at the moment.
I get chills everytime I see this-been waiting for the release since seeing the trailer so many months ago! I can not wait any longer- when will it be showcased on Long Island- Please keep us posted!!!!!
hey, roxy (yes i know who you are, you were at Dance Camp a few years ago) nice job putting this up, but where did you find this and how are all the people i know in it?
My teacher used to dance with Virsky, he bought the choreography of one of their dances (i don't know the spelling, but it sounds like Divyatka) i absolutely LOVE it.
who are you? anyway Andrij Cybyk (the one who everyone says is strict even though he's not, just during camp) is my normal dance teacher during the year.
Hey Everyone! Thanks for the comments. To answer the question about the music, its an original piece composed for the film by Kruno Spisic. He will be composing the original score, but you can find some of his music and show dates on his myspace page. Thanks again and stay tuned for the debut of Folk!
wow! this looks INCREDIBLE!!! the dancing, the colors, the culture, the music... can't wait to see this!!! if you haven never seen ukrainian dancing, you NEED and MUST see this - it is truly breathtaking...
