Frankly, anything will last forever in a landfill. It's buried underground where it's protected from the elements. If you left a plastic bag out in the sun, it would break down much faster. The sun is plastic's weakness.

Whos the dumbass that said the plastic bags take a few weeks to decompose? even though they are recycled, we still use so much. plastic bags can take 1000 yrs to decompose, 100 if they are made differently, and the knew decomposing ones still take 50 yrs.

mato, your ignorance is amazing. the time it takes to biodegrade is proving scientifically its not something that is made to prove paper is better and science has seen and proving that it is hurting the environment. thats why many cities throughout has STOPPED the usage of plastic bags. even if u're in denial, the bag that will be used later will be paper. They "stopped" because they are sheep and want to be better than you because they care more. Everyone knows that the studies were flawed and actually based on fishing nets. I challenge you to show me 1 (one) 50 year old plastic bag. You must not be very old or you would remember that the reason we use plastic bags is because radicals demanded it to save the trees. This is crazy. Plastic bags from walmart are the #1 recycled item in the world. they do not take 1000 years to decompose, only a few weeks, the new ones contain corn starch. You can't even show me a plastic bag from when they started manufacturing them, about 50 years ago. Littering is illeagle. start there first.
