I have read enough of the qur'an and hadith to know the verses do not require much in the way of interpreting. If something isn't clear one refers to the hadith for clarification. Zayed would have me believe the error in my understanding is due to a misinterpretation of the verses. Which could mean a few things; his definition of words differ. The color black is the color white and so on. Or taking a philosophical idea literally.. etc. His parents failed to point out to him lying is wrong?

I have read enough of the qur'an and hadith to know the verses do not require much in the way of interpreting. If something isn't clear one refers to the hadith for clarification. Zayed would have me believe the error in my understanding is due to a misinterpretation of the verses. Which could mean a few things; his definition of words differ. The color black is the color white and so on. Or taking a philosophical idea literally.. etc. His parents failed to point out to him lying is wrong?

I am AMAZED that ANY Imam would try to argue that in Islam women have equality with men. It is almost Orwellian. Muslim men may have multiple wives and temporary wives (prostitutes) and sexual access to their slave women even if those women are married (Q 4:24). Men may marry little girls and beat their wives. Muslim women are forbidden to marry non-Muslims and must be under the 'protection' ie the 'property' of a man whether as wife, daughter or concubine. The Imam is a liar for Allah.

Moustafa's defense to this at 33:00 is basically that this verse does not show inequality because the husband is not forcing the wife to have sex. But he point is that angels are siding with the husband on this one. This means that angels believe wives must have sex with their husbands whenever it's called upon them. In his answer he states that Muslims in Egypt saved Christians from the hands of the Romans who were about to wipe them out. Rome had fallen for hundreds of years by the time Islam appeared.
