  • Magnificent! Sublime! Such a pure, emotional vocal performance. And to think that she found this great, old Rodgers and Hart song from the 30's and related to it and knew she could interpret it and cover it in her own inimitable way. Still appalls me that she was not the first women inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. A travesty. There is another beautiful version of this song, done in a different vein, by Nina Simone available on youtube as well.

  • My favourite Joplin song!

  • What an amazing talent, and what a shitty disease!

  • Chet e Janis..

  • Sit there, go on, go on Count your fingers. I know what else, what else Honey have you got to do. And I know how you feel, And I know you ain't got no reason to go on I know you feel that you must be through. Go on and sit right back down, I want you to count, count your fingers, My unhappy, my unlucky But my little, little girl blue. I know you're unhappy, Ooooh, honey I know, Baby I know just how you feel.

  • Great artist. Among the masters indeed. She is in heaven singing for Mozart and Beethoven, both in awe of her. She "gives" herself completely to the song, very moving.

  • "Seat Right and count your fingers". " siéntate derecha y cuenta tus dedos" es la máxima expresión de esta canción. Conservar la dignidad y estar conscientes de que los dedos de una mano sobran para contar a aquellos que estarán con nosotros siempre. Conmovedora ¡¡¡

  • @grandtorro Until you walk in the shoes of a person afflicted with addiction, or watch that person disappear in front of your eyes with all the talent the world knows, how can you can you call such a life "a waste of life and talent" ?

  • dzalian magariaa

  • Elle ne vivait qu'une année de plus - she died a year later (1970).

  • And I know you ain't got no reason to go on

And I know you feel that you must be through.

Oh honey, go on and sit right back down,

I want you to count, oh count your fingers,

    Ah my unhappy, my unlucky

And my little, oh, girl blue.

    I know you're unhappy,

    Ooh ah, honey I know,

Baby I know just how you feel.

Janis forever!

  • @Memale2009 Couldn't understand a thing you said. Still agree with ya'

  • @rodentcafeteria

    Yes to everything!

  • @rodentcafeteria That is exactly what I'm doing. I've never read this deep into comments but enjoy seeing others appreciate how much of a gift she is.

  • I just wish she would have sat right back down in that hotel room and counted her fingers.

    RIP Janis Joplin

    October 4, 1970.

  • Don't know why, but I actually cried listening to this ;-?

  • @TheWezz69 Me too...

  • @CosmicXizor It's amazing what an infectious voice can make you feel, isn't it..Cosmic?

  • How many people in our lives are like Janis? Overlooked by everyone around them, dismissed, but inside a heart overflowing with passion. Next time you start to walk past an apparently boring, uninteresting person, remember Janice.

  • still makes my cry to know the world lost such a beautiful soul... ='(

  • sends me shivers down my spine

  • I'm making master degree on economics. I managed to understand the economy, capitalism, socialism and everything.

But when it comes to people who dislike this kind of masterpieces, my brain stops working!

If god promises me an extra 10 years, I will dedicate it on researching those mentals!

  • 44 people are soulless monsters.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • She was sooooooooo good, people around her backstabbed her to death. An angel left us October 4, 1970

  • WWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

  • Sad that this beautiful soul and voice had to leave us way too soon. Very few voices can stop me in my tracks to where I have to catch my breath and this is one of them....The beauty of this woman will never die within our souls...

  • I don't see a reason for the "dislike" button to EXIST, especially for this. people should just watch what they like, not what the don't like Oo

    awesome song

  • Wow! I've been a huge fan of Janis for 40+ years and I've never seen this performance before. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • i love her janis rocks

  • damn, she wailed that one right into my heart!!! one of the best perfomances i've ever seen her give!

  • Just .. Beautiful!

  • I agree with the other (sane) comments here: This is vintage Janis. She shows on this clip, once and for all, that she IS the real deal (and I say this as someone who's traditionally never been a huge fan of hers)! Outstanding performance from beginning to end.

  • this has to be her best performance ever in my book!

  • como eu amo... lindona

  • Simply awesome, she would not get to boot camp though..... lol. Shows you what a fake plastic shitey world we live in. God bless you Miss Joplin. No fanny or tits hanging out, just a damn fine voice............ a real singer !!!!!

  • WOW! ... amazing...

  • @peweter2 i said the same thing!WOW!

  • Heartstopping.

  • the kozmic blues band sound so boring, full tillt boogie were better.

  • Thanks for sharing! Awesome performance!

  • I'm sorry but I don't get it. I love the blues. I play in a blues band. Her phrasing is not good. But is rather predictable and ultimately boring. She yells and hollers with a very harsh voice that and yet cannot get the soul into it. It just doesn't sound good and I cannot get into it. I'm sorry but she was not very good.

  • @jon2bec2 I'm sorry to say but going of your comment, you know absolutley nothing about music, Janis Joplin sang from the soul, if you can't hear that in this video then maybe you should stick to listening to half baked pop music there is plenty of it around, unless you're just someone who likes to disagree to provoke a reaction in order to get some kind of personal kick?... either way you're just as sad..!! and I would be suprised to say the least if you actually did play in a blues band..!!

  • @jon2bec2 You're right - you don't get it. Why are you talking about "blues"? This song has also been recorded by Chet Baker, Nina Simone and Karen Carpenter, to name a few and, to my knowledge, none of them were considered blues singers and this isn't considered a blues song. If anything, it's a jazz standard and this is Janis' interpretation - there is no right or wrong way to do it.

  • @rodentcafeteria I don't do internet fighting. I just have my opinion is all. I play in a blues band my brother and I started up just recently. We've been practicing for about 6 months. We played the Kemper County blues show this year. We opened for Bobby Rush. Check Mississippi Flush on youtube. You can see Bobby Rush walking across the front of the stage. 500 people in audience, all black, real blues, Mississippi style. Brother and I are white boys, but love the blues.

  • @jon2bec2 No one is looking for a fight and you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I have no idea why you keep talking about blues, but thanks for the bio.

  • @jon2bec2 Soul comes from inside your body; it's not tonal or melodic. It's a physical manifestation of something powerful we feel deep within us.

    This is soul.

  • @OtisIsMyCat I've never heard it put into words like your comment. You have the best understanding of "soul" I've ever heard.

  • Thanks, @nerblebun. :)

  • @jon2bec2 r u deaf?

  • never heard this b 4 WOW

  • The artistry of this perfomrnace makes me feel like so much of what I worry about every day, and so much of what we strive for is just stupidity.

  • has got a black voice.

  • awesome

  • simplemente extraordinario. simplemente janis joplin.

  • janis is/was great.....she is still greatly loved....my friend named his daughter after his fav song by janis.....her clothes r still in style....they r classics and no one ever talks about her beautiful style.....<3janis
