Man I wish I could go to one of these huge ass festivals, but they're all in Europe. America is a bunch of pussies and we can't appreciate this kinda stuff here, so I've only seen him next door to a bar. I mean, it was awesome as shit, but the crowds were obviously way smaller.
huge festivals suck... the small venues is where its at, the knitting factory in LA last year was awesome, the keyclub nov. 5th, next week should have a decent enough size crowd and will definately rock, they can keep there huge venues as long as the music is loud as **** and the small crowd that is actually there is way into it
Definitely, I know what you mean. The place I'm talking about is Reggie's Rock House in downtown Chicago. He actually played another show there just a week ago. Missed that one, though. :/ The first time wasn't all the lively, but the 2nd time I saw him there shit was mad crazy, TONS of mosh.
I saw VSnares at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood and it was absolutely psychotic and life-changing. If you haven't been to one of his shows yet, go do it - now!
Wow, he is REALLY is able to keep with everything, you can tell. As a breakcore artist, Snares really stands out in my opinion, especially because he is using "less conventional" samples most of the time. Aphex did come up (more or less) with the jittery ritms and stuff which served as a basis for IDM (or whatever), but you know, allthough Snares' music might be derived from that, it still is pretty innovative on its own.
Aaron was innovative in the way that he used odd time signatures frequently (almost every song for that matter haha) and very effectively, whereas other breakcore artists could not keep up.
He once said in an interview that he and Fanny (another artist) had the same "spirit" in their music, and I claim I knew pretty well what he ment by that. The time signatures he is using is just one of those things that contribute to that typical "haunted" snares feel...Personally, I think it is that particular feel/spirit that made him one of the most popular breakcore artists today.
Cavaclade Of Glee and Dadist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms made great use of the 5/10 signature. I guess we can all saftly say aaron has a very unique and complex musical mind.
True, RDJ was a pioneer of skittery hyper breaks, but I remember when Come to Daddy came out I kinda thought he was jumping on the bandwagon, as dnb was blowing up around that time. Mind you, I loved his music since '94 and still do, but I wouldn't credit him as THE inventor. Musical progression is a collaborative effort.
Part of his genius is the way he makes tracks that can be artistically brilliant and cheeky at once. There is a fine line between genius and madman, I think this is reflected in his music.
Anyway, this reminds me of how Beastie boys were a punk group, until they did cookiepuss as a piss take of hip hop, and it became a hit, so then they became rappers?!?!? I know it's not too relevant to the comment, but I am a random rambler, hehe.
Seriously, if you could get near the complexity of most venetian snares's tracks, you deserve some credit. But if you think all it takes is loading samples and pressing play, I'm geussing you couldn't.
I've read interviews where he said that all he does is write music (in terms of work I suppose). Also look at classical composers and how much they wrote, so there's no reason why venetian snares couldn't.
The music he makes is not simply loading samples, he cuts and slices beats up then adds loads of layers and makes the best basslines you will ever hear.. i'd like to hear what YOU can do.. pricko.
It's not that simple dude, all Aaron Funk does with his time is make music non-stop. He has built up enough skill to be able to produce thought-out albums so prolifically.
breakcore spawned from dnb because people like aphex twin and venetian snares and squarepusher started programming more and more complex beats. you see break comes from break-beat which is the foundation of dnb.
let me restate. dnb and breakcore came from the same place and are very similar musically. both run at around 170bpm or above. both use obscure phrasings of sampled beats, and both came from hardcore/gabber type artists.
you are right about the 90's part, but i dont know where you get metal from.
anyways there isn't this huge difference between breakcore and dnb. artists like technical itch or aphex twin have created music in both genres...
Hey, I live in Oklahoma City where it is strictly a bedroom scene, and I have driven to Dallas so many times just to see a decent DJ. The bible belt sucks my ass.

he is also one of the few dj's that uses different musical_time then 4/4, although i doubt even 10% in the audience knows that

Maybe, I haven't paid that much attention to it, I just noticed it listening to that particular song.

Almost all of his tracks except for maybe the earliest stuff and his orchestral pieces are in 7/8 I believe.
IIRC, he's made a few songs that are 11/8 also.
