  • Rome: Total War FTW!!!

  • :new video games technology"

    rome total war from 2001..haha

  • after seeing rtw on this vid it made me reinstall it

  • Actually it is said that Spartans did not wear any chestplates or any other armor, for they had to be light so they could fight long shifts. Some say that they even fought naked.

  • @Sauerules Thats suicide.

  • @Sauerules look at the helmeta that were found, along with the curasses, no armor huh?

  • LOL rtw on the history channel

  • actually spartans wielded their spears UNDERarm not overarm lol.

  • @KrutoyPostowoy Based on what? The film? You fucking idiot. In the same video they show vase paintings of Spartans using their shields overarm.

  • @JConnolly2211 watch "A point about spears" here on youtube moron. Vase painting lol, use your brain, retard.

  • @KrutoyPostowoy I think I'll take vase paintings/carvings from the actual fucking era than some stupid video on youtube. Use your brain, spastic.

  • @JConnolly2211 OMG you ignorant idiot, vases are sold objects, they show what looks good so people buy it. Overarm you expose your unprotected armpit, you have less striking range and you have less striking freedom. Talking about brain... you're just an ignorant moron who sticks with his first thought no matter what and cant change his mind. Fuck you.

    LEO NIDAS!

    not leonadas

  • @animeroks36 You're really relying on the "300" movie for factual accuracy?

  • Their weapon had a butt spike...I bet that was painful.

  • Isn't this Rome Total War?

  • Not leon-dis

  • It is prononced King (Lee-on-id-is)

  • Comment removed

  • I love how they even use the music from ROME: Total War!

British games have always had that element of education and fun.

    More games from Britain please!

  • And THAT is why History channel is epic

  • ΕΛΛΑΣ!!

  • I love how they used 'Israel' on the map..

  • LOL...at 1:07 look left of greece...

    SPAIN WTF????

  • @SkullHeroLord maybe the map is from middle ages, northern Italy (Sicily) was parts of Spain, as well Netherlads, Belgium and Luxemburg

  • @SkullHeroLord LOL SO FUNNY!!!!

  • @SkullHeroLord The Greeks called the Italian peninsula and the other lands west of Italy Hesperia (Spain) which means Western Lands.

  • Does anyone find it strange how they say "Get the vieves the generals wished they had",if any of the ancient generals wached this they woud probably get a heart attack...:)

  • @SkullHeroLord They mean the vantage point from above that allows us to see the strategies, of course =P

  • whats there specs?

  • @Elspethknighterrant Thanks bro...

  • Oh wow, they used RTW?

    Fucken sweet.

  • i bet alot of historians find RTW very fun to play lol great game

  • rtw ftw omg

  • I hate to say this, but Sparta did not let slaves run buisness. Women did this. This was another difference to Athens, where women had no rights at all.

  • @theshadowling1 It's so true because when their husbands went to battle, they told the Spartans to "get back with it or on it," which means get back victorious along with your shield or be a corpse on it.

  • They even used the rome total war music... lol. I want their Thermopylae map though.

  • overarm? lol no they were not wielded overarm they were mostly wielded underarm i mean underarm has more pros than cons just cause theese "experts" saw somethin on a vase doesnt mean it HAD to be so

  • nice series!

  • Man, I spent most of my childhood playing games like Age of Empires and Rome: Total War, now I probably know more about World History than 99% of my class.

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi Same, i know more than my history teacher in highschool

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi Well I hope you don't base all your Historical knowledge solely on these two games, but these were more a base of interest in History, and you progressed from here lol. That happened to me with Command & Conquer, then from there, I got heavily into WW1 and 2

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi same too bad we dont learn about fun stuff like this in history

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi same hear man, shogun, rome, medieval, empire and Napoleon total war, age of empires, and civilization

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi ikr. I've played so much games like that that I have a 94 in that class

  • @GrovyleXShinyCelebi

Soooo true but what about when the games historical facts were wrong. :P

  • And no, the spartan society was anything but "closed". This is an extremely american oversimplification. Go read the sources another time.

  • @kickniko cite your sources. Your comment is oversimplified. If you don't consider a slavery state closed, I'm really not sure what closed means.

  • Nice indeed!

But no video technology and no TV-history will ever tell you what the Greeks were fighting for. It will not even let you know what a Greek is. And no, a Greek is no national characterization. You can be a Greek just as you can be a lover of arts, internationally. We do not fight for a garden and a home. We do not fight for a wife and a child. We do fight for other things. Much more precious things. We fight for the ecclesia of the demos. The participation to the common.

  • There used to be another show called time commanders that used Rome:total war to recreate battles.

  • did the \history channel use "Rome Total War" as their visual aid for this?

  • @picard12311 yes they did : )

  • Spartans were killing machines, the Persians with their robes looked like house wives

  • did they really use Rome Total war for this?

  • @javafraps Yep, was on the history channel for a while.

  • 0:41 ku klux klan in greece....

  • @tommyncfc lol

  • As much as I like how they shown battles in Greece, Rome, and Egypt. I wished they could of done battles in East Asia. There were huge names they could of done like Genghis Khan or Sun Tzu.

  • If the Greeks were united they wouldve kicked so much ass.

  • damn, i miss the old history channel. :(, and shows shows with general lee earmey ...

  • @pijef he was a gunnery serdeant not a general get your facts straight.

  • @budmeister

Haha. It's spelled "sergeant" you stupid fat dumb prick. Don't tell me to get my facts right when you can't even sell his rank bitch.

  • @pijef Wow you have no right to say that when you can't even spell "spell". Now get your cock-mongeling ass back to your basement cave-dwelling you fat mother-leech. TROLOLOLOLOLOLO!!

  • @budmeister

It wasn't a spelling mistake. I spilled water on my keyboard and my "p" key is stuck. Sometimes when I type fast my "p" key doesn't enter the letter because its hard to press. You have no right to correct me when you actually can't spell "sergeant." You cock munching cum guzzling seething cunt. How long has mommy been nurturing you? You fat fuck loser troll. TROLOLOLOLOLO!!

  • Thespians are under-rated. They fought to the last man too in Thermopylae.

  • holy shit history channel used Rome Total War. but then where the hell are the mods? seriously i want to get this. I prefer REAL Spartans over red toga wearing dudes with what looks like a Persian helmet that just covers the top of their head

  • LOL they used rome total war! epicness!!!

  • @Illier1 I know right its awesome lol

  • @Illier1

Its not the game, its the Total War engine which was released for them to use before the game even came out. Rome Total war was released on 22 sep 2004 and the Decisive Battles by the History Channel aired their 1st battle in July of 2004. A preliminary but completely workable version of the game engine was used prior to the games release.

  • @Illier1 they all use some total war game for the fight graphics

  • me and my dad used to sit down on watch these on a saturday night <3

This was before crappy x- factor

  • lol its the game rome total with other texture

  • I like how they use Rome total war to show battles :D

  • @Tyrkia123 lol me too :D

  • is the rome total war music from here or the other way around?? WTF??

  • isnt sicilia its apullia and WTF? spain?

  • i agree with holdnitdown240 too much cop, judge , reality bullshit. let a new generation get a glimpse of some dedicated badasses . during ww2 10% o the world's population was maimed, wounded, or outright killed. didn't make page 3 in the newspapers. now a camel farts in yemen and oil prices go crazy.

  • what mod are they useing i have every one of these games and third age mod but this is bad ass

  • Which RTW Version is it? :P

  • i am SO proud for the history of my country.thumbs up if you are a proud greek like me

  • 1:08 - Spain on the left side.

Conclusion: Americans were involved in the making of this documentary.

  • They are using Total War lol.

  • i hate it when they represent a phalanx holding spears like that it looks so puny

  • Comment removed

  • rome total war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So......this show got HOW much money for two guys to dick around on Age of Empires?

  • @SSVCloud ROME TOTAL WAR. NOT AOE. DUMB DUMB

  • @seanecw123 Was a joke.

  • They didn't use the Spartan Hoplite "unit" in this re-creation. They either moded it (which I did for my game) or they just recoloured the Armored Hoplite units.

Even the show thinks the original Spartans unit design that RTW first came out with are ugly hahaha!

  • 4:50 yes the CITY Sparta probably had around 9,000 citizens but back in the olden days people lived in the countryside in fact it's likely that most spartans lived in the countryside. The state was called sparta and so was the capital city. Sparta wasn't like Monaco or the vaticant. The city controlled a lot of land around it that probably had tens of thousands of more spartan citizens.

  • 5:20 this guy speaking is meant to be like a clever scholar or something like that who knows the shit he speaks about yet for some reason he pronounces Thermopylae by Latin phonetics and he doesn't realise that in greek the words that end with "ee" are spelt the same as latin words which end in "aye" when the latin word came from the greek word when spelt with the latin alphabet. The accent changes over time. What an idiot. Clearly his studies are limited to the roman world onwards.

  • @e102ewan Does that ever so slight error really offend you? Im sure you have mispronounced some words in your life. No need to call him an idiot.

  • even though today we have more destructive weapons, more people died per hour in battle back then than in weeks in wars today.

  • Visited there!

03:00 it's no water now... All flat land... Visited in June, it's so COOL! Nothing to rarely see but tree's now :]

Theres a statue there now.. with no head, arms or legs.. just the middle bit and body O.o XD

  • The game is called "Rome: Total War" Should get Shogun 2: Total war or Empire: Total War. Better graphics, but you need good graphics to run it.

  • It's pretty awesome that this documentary used such a great game as a simulator. I would love to see more documentaries like this with the newer games like medieval 2, shogun 2, and empire. It makes an interesting documentary even better.

  • yes this is ROME TOTAL WAR

    stop spamming now

  • I'm wondering why the Persians wanted to cross the strait and screw around with the Greeks when India, just to their East had a lot more riches.

  • @dachicagoan Because the Greeks had interfered in Persian affairs, it all began with the Ionian revolt which Athens supported. The Persians couldn't let that pass and had to make an example of them otherwise other provinces in the empire might revolt.

  • LOL

"Now with NEW video game technology!"

Rome total war and fraps? LOLOLOLOL

  • @MarZakGaMing Almost 8 years old program.

  • @Kilithaza haha ik, its just really funny XD

  • That's it. I'm re-installing Rome Total War

  • Fuck, how do i get those mod's for rome, i want to have some spartans like those on the video.

If someone knows, please tell me.

    Thanks great vid.

  • well, the spartans were barbarians, without culture who killed slaves.

ok that´s the truth. nothing else

  • @SUPERHERO700 I expected a fail comment like that. And who said that? A ''dude'' from germany.Clueless or just complexed. Take care!

  • @SUPERHERO700 well it seems your only source of information is the movei.... just to enlight you a bit my poor friend spartans (greeks generally) except of the most powerful armies also had the most comlexed and interesting cultures... when we had democracy you were fighting for bananas and climbing trees... and just to remind you your ancestors were barbarian tribes who tried to conquer roman empire... i would recommend you to study more before you speak for such delicated issues

  • This is what it looked like in 480BC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its was pixelated and looked like an old video game :O

  • @LewisTee08 This "old" video game is considered one of the all time greatest games.

  • @Master1906 Yeah i know, i just found it amusing that they said thats what it looked like

And it has old textures and a lack of anti aliasing, as if in the old days the world looked like that

  • Its always a quarter of million.

  • the sons of hercules cannot be defeated that easily.

  • Wich unit type is that exactly?

  • leonidas was in his 60s in thermopylae

  • everyone says they had different shields =/

  • if only WE THE GAMERS could use that version of the game

  • how do i get that mod!

  • cant believe they made the persians look like terrorists with the full robes and shit. lol

  • they should have used roma surrectum 2

  • THIS IS..SPARTA!

  • That's some nice mods they've got thar.

  • ROME TOTAL WAR

  • 1:08 left side....spain? lol wtf?

  • @MaxVerhaag

I thoink it means spaia which was a river

  • @MaxVerhaag Yeah the map is crap, they also put "Turkey" instead of Asia minor. Everybody know the turks arrived there in the middle ages.

  • @1999521 First of all, the show said MODERN DAY turkey. So they are correct as that would refer to anatolia. And the map is quite accurate of the persain empire's borders. Remember, this was the greatest power the world had seen. It was HUGE.

  • @Xtremesportguys603 I´m talking about the MAP, dude. The MAP, seen in 1:06, says only turkey. That would be like writing england in a map of the ancient british isles.

And I say nothing about the size of the persian empire, man. That has NOTHING TO DO with the topic we are discussing. You´re right, it was the biggest the world had seen. But they simply had no chance against the greeks. That´s why Alexander crushed them easily 150 years later.

  • @MaxVerhaag thats itialy and the island of sicilia dumbass

  • @MaxVerhaag thats italy and the island of sicilia dumbass

  • @MaxVerhaag thats italy and the island of sicilia not spain -_-

  • @TheWhiteCANdance ..........Can you read? It says spain in the aegean sea for some reason.

  • @TheWhiteCANdance thats a triple post idiot...i meant whats shown on the map...thats why there's lol wtf? behind my remark...now go back to disneyland....

  • Rome Total War the best :D

  • NEW videogame technology...look at it now :D:D

  • I'm guessing this show is a little old. I'm cool with them using rome total war, it works.
