Why couldnt a car company bring back all of the old designs of cars but put modern engines in them, and modern options. i know this would suck but people would be more willing to buy your car. Look at what dodge did with the Challenger
@TheMadDooby - - - Modern engines are nothing but a lot more expense. I will take the old engines any day with no pollution crap or expensive computers on them. They are cheap to repair when needed, not expensive like the newer junk.
@hottrodscars I agree with you, Carborated engines are much easier to repair, but are shit on fuel, and gas isnt getting any cheaper. I would take the old over the new any day, theres no car in the world that can even come close to the low rumble of a chevy small block, but this day and age, these cars are hardly drivable, they are show cars, When I'm done my 1970 Dodge Challenger, i want a car that looks great, but is also a great car to drive and show off. Not one or the other
@TheMadDooby if you believe that nuthin can come close to the rumble of a chevy small block you need to give me that Challenger so a real car guy could treat her right not some cookie cutter sbc builder. MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!
@notanova Oh? So you think you know what your doing? Good goob, I dont give a fuck. I was making an example. You have to start somewhere, And im starting on a challenger. A sweet deal like the one I got doe not come around that often
@hottrodscars though i am a classic diehard and refuse to buy new,i have to disagree with you from a reliability stand point. the metals used these days in engines will endure hundreds of thousands more miles than cars from say the 50's.if you did 100k on a 50's car,it would be considered a miracle at the time. i do appreciate the simplicity of them though and if you put a rebuilt in an old car with the newer metals and using modern lubericants, itd be able to last as long as new engines
@jayocular - - My Dad's 1953 Olds with a V8 303 cid, got 100,000 miles on it with no engine repairs at all. He changed oil regularly every 2000-3000 miles and it was still fine when he sold it in 1967. This newer computer crap is nothing but money down the drain.
@hottrodscars another thing in the defense of newer motors(im going to hell for all thesee comments against old school, lol) is that modern motors are more efficient and can get more power out of the engine than an old one.though the computers and fuel injection systems add more complexity, they make the most use of the engines potential.
@jayocular - - In the last 2 years I have heard nothing but bitching from people who have bought newer vehicles, one guy had a $5000 repair bill for computer crap, and it still isn't right. Over-priced JUNK.
@hottrodscars take that same complaint to the 50's and ill gaurentee there were more problems with the cars at that time. look,im not saying im a fan of computers in cars today especially since their complexity and difficulty for the do it yourselfer who wants to work on them,im just saying that the computer will keep a car running longer if there is an issue in the engine somewhere as it will make the adjustments to fuel air and spark to compensate where as an old motor will just stop running
@hottrodscars alot of people who complain about them complain because they dont understand them and how they work.for the do it yourselfer,it is harder to work on because its not as simple as just air fuel or spark, but if you have the tools and know how,it can actually be simpler to resolve.all the sensors and the computers are designed both to compensate and keep the car running and to prevent more serious damage kind of like a fuse does.i could however do without the smog shit on cars though
@TheMadDooby I've been asking this question since before the first retro styled cars became available. You can nearly put together an all-new '55/'56/'57 Chevy now with aftermarket parts. You can turn 55-57 4-door Chevys into 2-door cars and 2-door convertables with after market parts, etc, etc. You can even buy an all-new '69(?) Camero and maybe '67 Mustang body now.
@xmodvin12 Well I own a 1970, And 10 times out of 10 preffer the 1970, Im just saying the new Challenger somewhat resembles a older relative, In no means would i prefer one. But look how many units they have sold, its stupid
@TheMadDooby cause the aerodynamics of those old cars are bad, cause those old cars are heavy and cause those cars would not be that interesting anymore.there is a reason why new cars do not look like these old ones...
and i personally do not like retro cars.let the old times be old times.
@TheMadDooby - - Computer systems in newer cars are way, way too expensive to repair. I have talked to a lot of people who wish the hell they had never bought that newer vehicle because of $5000 repair bills. Carburetors can be re-jetted for better fuel mileage, I have gotten 18.2 mpg from a 5000# 1976 Thunderbird with a 460 in it, on the highway. That's plenty good enough for me instead of some newer shitbox.
When I wanted my 72 beetle out from behind my barn that had been sitting for 20 years in the mud and shit I just took my truck down there hooked on and floored that fuck it took me 2 hours but I got the car out. All 4 brakes were locked up and it was so settled in the ground that you couldnt even stick a sheet of paper underneath it. I was stupid back then. :( Because I ripped the bumper off and messed up with back end.
No you sure wouldn't! A couple of brakes were locked up too, and we were sliding it out on used drain oil. I had backed it in there under it's own power 25 years ago.
you know... theres a reason why people stick with their Oldies... i have a neighboor and he prefers using his 67 Impala rather than the Audi A4 he had... he sais "Driving the A4 doesent feel like driving a car.. something just isent right" and that "Driving my Impala lets me FEEL the road and i can Hear and feel whats going on plus how can you POSSIBLY fall asleep then?"
From the 1969 and back THOSE where the days THAT is what we can call CARS... theese new PLASTIC heaps looks like something a child could draw... UGH..
Wow this car is seriously nice! if you ever have plans on restoration, Please consider it! i may be a New Generation kid, driving Import sports car but i sure do Appreciate and respect american Classics!

@Mratking1 you know factories pollute not cars well cars do but only like 1 % and they blame cars..... like some wise person said god may have made earth but the chinese made everything else!
I still have the car, good title in my name from 1973, also searc on YouTube for "firing up 1954 Packard after 25 years" my son posted that one, that has a straight 8 327 cubic inch Packard engine in it. Had a few sticking rings, but straightened right out after 5 minutes.
@hottrodscars Do you have a 1944/1951 Ford 4-Door Coupe at all? (That doesn't work, and needs a lot of work, for example, no engine, no brakes, locked brakes, rusty, new interior, stuff like that.)
Looks like you've got a whole collection of American vintage cars. I'm watching someone tow a 1955 Olds Super 88. What do you plan to do with the car? Restore it, do some custom modification to it?
Actually the car runs now, I have owned it since 1973. In 1975 I drove it to Kansas and back from Illinois and it got 21 mpg at 60 mph. All it needs is a little bodywork and some new chrome here and there. I will restore it, it will be an easy restoration. It has a 324 V8 4 bbl 4GC Rochester.
Yes, eventually they most all get restored, I have done this for 44 years - - no '55 Chevies but I have a 1957 2 dr. that I will be building up a 400 small block for - - 12.5:1 compression.
It's a street rod engine - - also the higher the compression the more efficient it is even when I'm not getting on it, but with 12.5:1 I will be running octane booster.
Also on YouTube, type in 1954 Packard started after 25 years; and 1966 Oldsmobile Starfire started after 25 years. Taught all my kids to be mechanics too.
The 1955 olds super, is one of my ultimate favorites. Along with the 1958 Buick special and the 1959 CAdillac (the fins)......thats ultimate!! Thanks for posting this cool video. -BOGAR!

@hottrodscars oldengines can be less polluting than new engines if you run them on Liqified petroleum gas or LPG
215alessio 2 months ago
@215alessio - - - At $2.00 per gallon with half the heat value in LP, I'll stay with gasoline.
hottrodscars 1 week ago
@hottrodscars I see. here in europe gassoline is 8,5 UDS a gallon
respectivly 1,7 to 1,8 euro a litre
LPG is 0,6 euro a litre or 3 USD a gallon.
High fuel prises in europe , very boring land for petrolheads.
The only way to efford an american muscle car is to run ot on LPG here or else it is unpayable

Yes, eventually they most all get restored, I have done this for 44 years - - no '55 Chevies but I have a 1957 2 dr. that I will be building up a 400 small block for - - 12.5:1 compression.
hottrodscars 2 years ago
Is it gonna be a dragster or something? Why have such a high compression ratio?
giberish9 2 years ago
It's a street rod engine - - also the higher the compression the more efficient it is even when I'm not getting on it, but with 12.5:1 I will be running octane booster.

I have 3 1959 Cadillacs, two coupes and a sedan. Don't have a 1958 Buick, wish I did, although I do have a 1960 Buick Electra

The 1955 olds super, is one of my ultimate favorites. Along with the 1958 Buick special and the 1959 CAdillac (the fins)......thats ultimate!! Thanks for posting this cool video. -BOGAR!

this car is beutiful! but i hate fools who put big "bling bling" rims on them! it have to be original.
Simca1991 3 years ago 3
I keep everything original on my cars. I don't like the big rims either, they are out of proportion to the rest of the car.

Sweet. Kind of reminded me of the movie "Christine" You gotta love old barn finds. Little soap and water and she will be on Barrett Jackson.

Dayberry 3 years ago 4
well thats true. the olds were sports style cars and the chevys were luxury cars i believe. my old teacher had a 57 olds that she said could go 170
muddingmachine 3 years ago
why did you put it in there?
redneckmechanic94 3 years ago
If you got the space to store a car when its old then why get rid of it. Lots of people with Barns do that.
