However a couple of points need to be clarified. 1. the big companies like aol, microsoft, yahoo and myspace are also sending out millions of emails everyday. you cant sign up to their sites without opting in to receive email. later you can opt out. 2, there is a place for legitimate opt in email. there are hundreds of newletters who email to 10,000 to 100,000 users on their opt in list with each issue. The one FACT they didn't include though, is whether Richter's email lists were OPT-IN email lists. If they were opt-in email lists and there is a way to easily remove yourself from the list, then it's not spam. If he scraped the email addresses and there's no way to be removed, then it's spam. There's a huge difference?

Opt-in? If you have a "My Space" account then you are familiar with the fake accounts made with porn or near porn pictures and you and everyone else online at the time would get a friend request. When you click anywhere on the page embedded HTML would take you to an affiliate porn link. THAT was Richter. It was also said that he was behind much of the phishing there in order to gain access to accounts to spread affiliate links.

I don't see why Spam is such an offense.

We have countless anti-spam technology being used to filter ALL emails without us needing to lift a finger.

We get nuisence calls from telemarketers, local newspapers and leaflets each day through our day, yet ONE single bit of data and everyone goes fucking wild.

Spam should not be illegal, people have a choice whether to read their spam or not, it gets filtered, so you may only see One or two spam emails a month.

I actually work for an E-commerce provider than had an email sent out advertising their service to an opt-in list of 200,000 email addresses from a database.

This was in no way "different" to spam at all.

The company made over $48,000 in that year from that ONE email being sent, giving them a customer database of over 16,000 customers.

The company now runs itself just off these from word of mouth.

Im now an executive marketer for this company.

I know ALL about "spam" so don't talk shit.

That is the Legal loophole of those who agree to receiving emails from the said company.

Spammers send innocent people emails that most of the time contain viruses and spyware that attack their computers. By definition that is terrorism. People just think it isn't because they don't actually see a "bomb". ok, let's follow a trail of money. see if you can keep up. pfizer pays an ad agency to conduct a campaign for them. they tell the specifics of what is allowed, email, search, banner, etc. the ad agency pays it's affiliates to execute said campaign. so yes, pfizer doesn't have their own advertizing team because anyone who knows business knows that deviating too far from your core business model isn't good, but they do pay to have those ads sent out.
