Right, what I usually say id "did you have your birthday yet this year?" if they say "non" I say " this is how old you'll be this year " if they say yes, "this is how old you are,.." so, good call,... it gives you the age you will be for that year,...

Yes Metric works as well, 2010 = 1010mm, 1980 = 800mm which tells me I am 30 (300mm) this year

This is certainly something that you wouldn't notice unless it was pointed out to you. But, the logic behind this is rather simple. You're doing subtraction on one side and doing addition on the other side.

So no matter what born year you are, it will be count: 109 - x = your current age

so the year you was born + your age will give current year (1900 + those two = 2009)
