Just announced our local Kmart closing after 40 years of doing business here. I liked the place when I was kid and still like it as an adult. It is a shame.
I still love Kmart, always will; I can't stand how Wal-Mart gets a laugh out of building right next to Kmarts (and locally owned Ma & Pa shops) just to put them out of business, it's sick. Kmart never did that, even when the nation's leading retailer.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! Hard to explain and strange as well, but I love Kmart in a sick obsession sorta way. I worked in 17 different stores-Including 1st Kmart store #4000 Garden City, 5 districts, 3 regions, both Super K, Big K, Kmart (old signage -still laid out in big k floor plan) ...and even a few die hard hold out stores with the old 'K [mart]' signs in red/teal. many old timers 25+ years told me of a time long past, if you know retail, S.S. Kresge/Kmart/Jupiter stores pioneered all
We still have a "Big K" nearby and luckily there is a lot of business, even with a super Walmart a half mile away. It's gotten to where Kmart is the more civilized place to shop. You get in, you find what you want, and you get out without feeling aggravated by mobs of people running you over.
in my latter years as a teen, we lived 2 blocks from K-mart and used to go over for dinner in their in store diner. But they took it out, and in its place a really large electronic section. Then things went from bad to worse when they took out the big and tall section and replaced it with the small and anorexic sizes. (sorry no offense) Now i go to Other stores cause our K-mart dosnt have ditty..
Yes so true. The 70"s were sure good times for Kmart....Kmart also had a great auto garage for repairs in the 70's and 80's . So sorry to see it leave. Now everthing is priced out- landish and is very complicated to get any thing done. Good help from clerks for the most part is a thing of the past. We have all these modern computers and it takes three times as long to get out of the check out. Oh take me back to the good old 70's ....Big hair, real stores, real music, real resturants, etc..
when i was a kid this where i got my clothes and shoes such as rustler jeans and mcgregor shoes while other kids wore nike shoes and levi jeans i was so pissed that i wasn't able to wear the more expensive shoes and clothes
I have shopped both at Kmart and Walmart and I would definitely pick Kmart over Walmart because it's easier to walk in and find things I want. Walmart is too big and whenever I walk in that store, I end up wandering around and leave Walmart. Kmart is much better. I enjoyed the food deli at Kmart more than Walmart. I hope Kmart gain ground very soon over Walmart and Target. Good luck Kmart! You have my support! :-)
K-mart has ceased tro exist in Canada since 1998.Those were the days when Woolco(before Wal-Mart bought them out),Zellers, and K-Mart competed neck-and-neck.
I miss having a K-Mart in my city. While I liked our smaller K-Mart (closed prior to the opening of our Super K-Mart) the most, I still shopped at the Super K-Mart, occasionally. The Super K-Mart, however, ended up closing about 3 or 4 years ago.
I loved going to K-Mart as a kid in the 1980s and early 1990s. I liked getting new toys, video games, and clothes. I also liked shopping for Christmas decorations.
I love shopping at K-Mart and I used to go all of the time with my folks, and my grandparents too. I still go to K-Mart today as I get my pants, and slippers there. I just joined the Rewards Your Way program.
Kmart once was the greatest store this is a great example what happens to a company when the top brass thinks they know more than the people who works in the store every day.
I miss the old school Kmart logo, which is the red and turquoise one. I reminds me so much of the 1980s and when Kmart was cool. When Kmart got that newer red and white logo in the early 90s, Kmart started to lose it's humanity.
@sugarrrsmack I remember that resturant too. It was in the back and I remember when electronics was inside a darker room. In that same plaze I remember there was a Ponderosa, a shoe store, Pizza shop, Yi's Karate, Radio Shack, Family Dollar, and a of course ACME.

Kmart was a great store from the early 70 to late 80 until those like Martha Stewart
and Sears ruined it with their stuff that doesn't work. I remember shirts, sweaters,
pants, and underwhere in those bins still in the wrapper. Those were the days!

@freedombear79 I heard that one of America's largest retailers went bankrupt. You wouldn't suppose that is K-Mart would you?

Woah...look at all those people in the store at 0:43. Even Walmart can't ever say that. But now Kmart has more Tumble Weeds in the store than people.

Most of the re-designed "new" K-Marts near me closed or turned to Sears Essentials and the only 2 left within 200 miles are old-styled stores.
