Robert Johnson had only 5 mississippi delta blues players to learn from, to me more impressive. I prefer SRV & Stanley Jordan to Jimi Hendrix. As great as Jimi was I did not care for his voice, & thought for ever clean piece he played, he played to many that were sloppy & dirty. I keep hearing that he wanted to do it, to me sounded like crap. I respect the fuck out of Jimi. How no one can write or play like him, but have heard a lot of guitar players that play more talent& feeling as Jimi had.

Angus doesn't suck, but not on this list. EVH is not #1 Vai blows him away. Hendrix should never be#1, great guitarist but there are better. Robert Johnson, No Hendrix without Robert Johnson know your music. SRV was better than Hendrix & so was Stanley Jordan. Andre Segovia was the greatest guitarist ever to walk planet earth, not Hendrix. Andre got more people to play guitar than Hendrix could ever fathom. Hendrix had a thousand musicians to learn from, RJ only had 5 Mississippi delta blues

Segovia is an undisputed master, but that's an entirely different realm of music, guitar playing and method. It's like comparing Tiger Woods' golfing to Michael Jordan's basketball skills. And Hendrix is #1 in many people's opinions (and mine) because he changed the sound of guitar rock, leaving his personal brand on the music, and the many "better" guitarists all learned from him - he did it when no one else did, that's innovation.

Segovia destroys all guitarist period. Despite what genre. Hendrix is great my brother, but sorry he is not the greatest. Robert Johnson is way better & had far less to learn from, i'm more impressed. Hendrix for me ruined it with his terrible singing voice. What I will do is argue for Hendrix's benefit. You dislike his voice - I love it. That husky quality is something you won't hear from any other, it's so unique and mesmerizing. Maybe song structures EVH has him, but doesn't mean his a better guitarist. I've seen both live & seen both do solos & have never seen anyone do a live solo better than Vai.
