Microsoft really needs to stay away from mobile communications. They are not doing so great at it, and Steve Ballmer just looks like a guy you want to hit, especially when you hear is voice. Windows needs a young ceo to re connect windows with the mass. Windows has done well with desktop and laptop computing.... why change that form factor. Desktop computing is still essential to business and production. Make it better, make it easier, and make it compatible with what is already out there.
Windows 7 seeems pretty freakin AWESOME to the 100's of Millions who bought and paid for theirs. And far as I know EVERYONES looking forward to see what Windows 8 has to offer, so am I. \:)

Apple has only XNU. It is 100% open source and is used in OS X and iOS.

Yes, but I didn't include Linux because it's free and open-source, plus there are many Linux distributions. I used to use Ubuntu on my laptop and have Debian on this computer(in addition to Windows 7).
The idea of making an OS to compete with Windows and Mac is funny since Linux will slowly consume both of them anyway. Everything will be open source soon so unless the Google Chrome OS is Open Source, I can't see it being a real competitor.

If Google study of 98% of time spent in front of computer is spent to web browser, then it is something what that field of people dont get.

@Sasudela In my opinion he shouldn't be microsoft's CEO there are so many other better guys out there for the job. I'm going off the way he acts in public events and how he responds to questions about his products and competitiors and the way he laughs at products that are successful e.g. Iphone, Ipad etc... To be honest going off history everything he laughs at makes more more than what he releases through his company. He said Iphone wouldn't take off because Iphone didn't have a keyboard.

I'm actually developing for iOS right now so I know. But as far as Google's forays into computer OS....disaster. Stick to the search engine, guys. Even Mac OS doesn't kick it for me... I love my Windows 7.

@ShaiSoft android will be lucky to get passed oracle and then there be apple to deal with ...android is free ...when is costs monies and google still makes nothing and manufactures are required to remove features that they stole then it will be a level playing field...oracle is likely to kick there ass and take a few billion off of them and thats for a os that they sell for zero...there need to start again with a motorola os ..i back steve jobs on this one

Steve has done fuck all with Microsoft, where is their social network visibility? what has happened to Bing search? why have the last 2 operating systems been basically the same old story? As for his comment towards ChromeOS, having an operating system like XP on a NETbook (NET emphasised) is so pointless, what google has basically done is simplify netbooks to be just that which is logical, Ballmer knows that ChromeOS basically takes away the point of his precious microsoft office and windows
