Why?

Because if you knew the Divine Comedy, you'd never heard this & someone told you they'd covered it - it sounds exactly like you'd imagine it to.

I'd rather be a little surprised.

Oh dear, It's fair to say Neil is a very competent songwriter, but this version of the Smiths song has all the grace and gravitas of a steamed sponge pudding with extra helpings of custard for good measure. The Smiths work has rarely been covered well at the best of times (listen to the multiple cover versions out there that are so appalling, one would seriously consider cutting one's wrists in sympathy. Stand up Radiohead) I'm sure Morrissey and Marr would be tickled pink!

P.S.: I personally feel this slow cover, has an element that most of the others covers don't have, mostly they try to feet with the original. Divine Comedy dared to go out of the conventionals. Or maybe it's just me who feel it straight in the heart... but I don't care, I don't care.

My God, the only way this could have possibly been pulled off is with a radical reinterpretation, like this one. Otherwise you just couldn't justify it. There's far too many straight up acoustic knock offs, this one genuinely tries to go somewhere different with The Smiths masterpiece. Oh, but you can't beat the original. <3

Just what is the point of covering this song?? The whole brilliance of it is linked with Morrisey´s voice, carachter, essence. Take Morrisey out of the song = there´s no song (well, not much left anyhow)
