I wish I had those helper hands when I was soldering back in the day. I had become quite efficient at holding the solder and soldering iron in one hand and the board in the other hand so I could get the bloody LED's flush to the boards.

Soldering the header pins while plugged in the arduino is not the best idea. Many soldering irons have voltage differences between the tip and grounded objects. And if are lucky this voltage difference will destroy the microcontroller.
