Don't know if you can talk about an active attempt. For a long time I've been able to tilt my view so to speak when lying down sideways then later on also while standing but I didn't consider it anything special so I just kept it for myself. While relaxing on YouTube it struck me that I couldn't find any video about it so why not be the apparently first to post one? ;)
hmm.. i'm someone that's very much into trying to control my own body.. one night while laying down the room started "spinning" as people call it. i felt that in my eyes and tried to duplicate it and got the same result you did.. it's pretty cool. your friends get grossed out too?
I wouldn't say grossed out. But they're definitely fascinated and want to know how. Well, I really can't give a good explanation other than I've already tried to. It's like explaining how to bend your arm; It's just something that most people can do deliberately but explaining it is extremely difficult.
Try look into a mirror and tilt your head sideways. You'll notice that to a certain degree the eyes stays water level - don't rotate with the head. That's normal.
The hard thing is to deliberately control the mechanism without moving your head. It's quite hard to explain but I imagine I'm tilting just the forefront of my brain.
Yes, everything tilts sideways. That's why it really easily can cause "sea" sickness. And I'm not that prone to sea sickness normally.

I should add: This is a really great short cut to get sea sick in a hurry without moving anything except your eyes ;D
