think about the sound a v10 turbocharged would make and how much torque and horsepower that would produce. That will b 2012 but bmw can b satisfied knowing they once again killed the cts v
Why are people so giddy over that darn V10? I think it was a great motor, but twin turbo V8 is light years ahead man. Who needs more than 8 cylinders? The e39 m5(2000-2003) only had a v8 and everyone still drools for it. This time around you get the same 4.4 liters displacement(bored out to 5.0 for the e39 M5), but with two freakin' turbo's people. That means torque heaven, and with a touch of MPG(Although I could care less, it's a super sedan)
wow supercharged v8 producing almost 600hp damn and 500 torques only thing is i hope the price isnt overpriced i suspect it will be abit more expensive than the old m5 but by how much is the question if bmw fuk up the price they r gona loose alot of customers and people wil start havin second reputations about bmw.... i h8 the front design of the new 5 series its fuking ugly the back it fine but honestly i do not want to look at tht front grill just ugly
@alphie10 Do you honestly believe that people are not going to buy the new M5 because of a possible price increase? They're not gonna care. If its a better vehicle, they'll be willing to spend the extra cash on it. They're already decently loaded if they can afford to buy the $90,000 E60 version. And you think BMW's reputation is gonna go down? Well that's false. Do you think the average person even knows that BMW builds cars like the M5? No. Let's use our brains a little bit next time.
Every company is trying to get better MPG in their cars. So right now BMW's idea is to drop 2 cylinders and use TT for there high power vehicles. Such as the M5. I would expect the new generation M3 is going to be an Inline6 TT or V6 TT.
nearly every clip is a different car. The first car as a bulge on the bonnet, the rest do not. Plus look at the bumbers. there different. Look at the size of the tail pipes at 0:53.. there tiny, nowhere near the size of the current M5's. I dont think any of these clips are the M5, probably the 550i MSPORT model there testin. They may put quad pipes on them but just smaller as can be clearly seen. Still reckon M5 will be 5.5 Litre V10 Twin Turbo.
no v10 makes me wanna cry, the m5 was in my top five favorite cars for the exhaust note from that monsters v10 alone, now its just another bmw with twin turbos, not the special car it once was. god thats disappointing, makes me wanna vomit
@efaco5 on the bright side a supercharged v8 with almost 600hp and about 500 torques so not to bad i h8 the front grill design for the new 5 series so ugly
some people dont know that this is a spy car !!! look audi makes evry car the same same nose same dashboard same back same light's evrything about that car is they same just like the other models
m5 v10 E60 great car maybe this one is better maybe not nobody knows
Fuel economy and emissions. The old M65 V10 had more CO2 emissions/km than a 911 Turbo, and the fuel economy was appalling. This is the way of the world now, and a smaller engine with forced induction is the way to go.
thsts dissapointing i wanted them to fuck up mercadies 6.2 liter .....bmw could ave made a v12 twin turbo :P that would be really fast 7.1 liter to make mercades cry lmao.!
My friend. Take into account that BMW makes three times as good engines as amg. I'm sure that the next generation M5 will turn to dust any sedan in the world.
i see that they are trying to stay stiff with america'ford contour' and japans all mighty 'nissan GT-R' but it looks like a heavy car..maybe the twin turbo V8 can do damage but ima stick to my roots with nissan
If youre gonna go forced induction on a V8, you need to go with a supercharger. This car sounds good, but I would love to hear a supercharger whine rather than a turbo whistle.
This car will be nasty, no doubt, but keep in NA BMW.
no you don't actually... turbos are wayyyy more efficient these days and produce much better power with the same amount of boost, not to mention, a more level torque curve.
@Precocious030 I understand the efficiency of turbos. But the main purpose of a sports car is not necessarily efficiency. Give me the 5 liter NA V10 from the last car. Or a 6 liter NA V8 muscle car. I want my sports car to run on baby seal fur and emit pure oil, not sip watered down gasoline and use laggy turbos.
again, this it's almost 2010, turbo lag is no longer a problem with the sequential setups we have today. the 911 turbo, GTR, Veyron, Taurus SHO have very little turbo lag, if any!
i understand what your saying. there is something raw and magnificent about a big 3 L twin screw supercharger sitting on top a V8. i agree but the fact of the matter is, turbos are more efficient, better bang for the buck, and make better better.
but like your saying, sometimes, it has to be about personal preference
i agree. saves a ton!!! of weight, plus this set up will certainly have more torque than that V10, which could be enough to give it the edge of the CTS-V
Why reduce a V10 engine to V8 and then give it a bi-turbo ? And the front hood design looks too much like a muscle car, previous BMW M5s were looking executive, curvy, and beautiful. Something's wrong with this design and V8 with bi- turbo is not liked by me, I would prefer V10 engine with bi- turbo and the 'M' button close to the gear shift with the symbol of the actual 'M' in capital Italic to produce the boost required when you are on the Autobahn and your blood is warm.
It's funny you say that, because their chief designer is no longer an American. What's funnier is the fact that they have traditionally used V8s for the M5 and yet somehow using a V8 would make them like a muscle car? It certainly doesn't, but even if it did, consider this; what do you think the fastest sedan was around the nurburgring? I highly doubt you'd have used "muscle car" with a negative connotation if you had known the answer to that.
May be its funny for you. Check out the sound of a V10 and a V8. V8s sound fat or thick, V10s and V6s (with short stoke engines) and also V12s have the proper sports car sound. I cant give you a literal example or paste you the sound recording of a V8 engine, you can see the review of BMW M5 by Top Gear and let me know what Jeremy talks about the noise produced by that BMW and to what he compared. Audi also did the same thing, with their A6 models, and the engine noise etc is gone for a toss.
Actually, you are wrong, and I can give a literal example.
Have ever watched a cartoon, or a movie, that has absolutely nothing to do with cars, but they get to use a sporty-car-sound? Think about it for a few moments. Remember a couple of examples. Now tell me, did you ever, in your life, hear a V10, V12, or a V6 used in any instances?
Nope. It's always a V8. Not even any V8, only American V8.
I guess nothing represents sports car sound better than American V8 sound. Hm?
Oh so you are a cartoon guy now. Which cartoon do you watch ha? Speed Racer or something ? I guess you are defintely a southie or from Texas man. You have no Idea what a BMW is and you have not heard of a car company called Aston Martin or Ferrari !
Yo dude! dont just sit there and mis-judge anyone before know a thing about them. I too have great respect for muscle cars, but BMWs are not supposed to be one of them. And I know that Cadillac CTS-V did beat the record of the previous BMW M5 in being the fastest full size passenger car. I respect all muscle cars man.
It's not about respecting, it's about acknowledging. You can tell me all you "respect" muscle cars all day long while you overlook the fact that they're no joke, they hold a record or two in the sports cars world.
Executed correctly, any engine will be as good as any other, regardless of size. Audi S4 is sporting V6 now, and its just as fast as the V8. Impala SS is sporting a V8 now and its just as economical as (and faster than) the previous gen SS which was a V6. It can work both ways.
I agree with you, definitely it can work both ways. You want get back the same noise. Its like you are replacing your dog with a cat as a pet and say it can work both ways. Well, you have got a pet at home and it is not a dog, but a cat it sounds different etc etc etc. I am only saying that it would have been better if BMW M5 would have got a V12 engine + a bi turbo. Just try to imagine that first and then comment on how good or bad idea that would be.
A V12 would be nice, but it requires a lot of technology to battle with the weight issues of an engine that massive, battle with the extremely high fuel consumption, repair and maintenance cost, etc. Believe me, if it was a good idea, they would have done it.
And, regarding to your comment saying V8s sound fat. I guess you haven't heard a F430 before. If that doesn't sound sharp to you, I don't know what does.
