  • Hey thank you very much, I hope you do more videos because you really help us new HVACR Mechanics.

  • @MzNikkiB Thanks for watching.

  • I thought it was the coolest thing as an apprentice when I was shown how to check fuses in place and whether contacts were closed or not with the wires still attached.

  • @yrtuag That's still nice to know. Knowledge is accumulative.

  • I'm not real big on Swiss army meters. If they go down your screwed. I like fluke, and yes you have to have more than one, but each does very well. I do hate the fact the Chinese are now making them. Most of mine are pre-fluke corp. USA made.

  • Ha talkin signaling voltages

my meter goes and makes me a egg salad sandwich and coffee when it has spare time... :)

  • my meter goes and makes me a cappacino when it has spare time... :)

  • @DaddieRay I need to get me a multimeter that can make cappacino, too.

  • Iam going to school for Hvac and then I will be cerified now when I get a job do they hire me as a installer first as learn mor on the job? What would you do if you hired someone? I watch your videos in the morning then go to school it has been giving me an edge.lol

  • @leroyj333 HVAC contractors need techs that can do service work as well as new installs. It all depends on the contractor's needs.

  • why does the amp reading change when the pannel door is closed?????

  • @80amnesia The amp reading changes because the load on the motor changes when the door is closed.

  • @DrZarkloff Can you be a little more specific? Is the load reduced with the door closed or increased with the door closed? I'll await your answer.

  • @diggy6530 The load increases with the door closed.

  • @DrZarkloff Why is it not decreased? wouldn't it be working less

  • @freks69 The blower will have much less resistance with an open cabinet than with a closed cabinet.

  • Dr.Z thank you for helping so many of us understand the world of HVAC in a very patience manner. I haven't been through every video yet, but I did want to suggest something-Can you please make a list of an order of your videos to screen for the very novice-I am going to start a basic HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Electrical class at our local college in two weeks, most of the jobs in my area ask for the CFC type 1 cert and at least one year exp. email me at kcmalikrod@gmail.com-thank you and GB

  • I was going to purchase a Fluke 116/322 HVAC combo kit but after watching DrZarkloff's educational video's, I purchased the Fieldpiece HS36 instead ( HS33 not stocked anymore at the Trane supply store). Thank you DrZarkloff for inspiring me sir :-)

  • @joecar314 Thanks for watching.

  • not to be anal, but at 2:14 you said meter's measuring resistance between both probes,, not correct. the meter's actually measuring CURRENT flow from probe a to probe b. voltage from the contactor's trying to fry up your meter, but the meter's high impedance restricts current flow, yet it measures some currrent flow then reads out a corresponding voltage according to the current measured by the meater... who cares.

  • you are a great instructor.i am a fresh out of school tech. and have learned quite a bit from you sir...hats off to you and god bless

  • Very interested in multi meter usage part 2!

  • THanks

  • Dr ZZZZ

Excellent job on the multimeter video. It was explained very well. Tell the wife I said hello and awaiting her starring roll in the video I requested. Hell, I want the dog in there also.

    TTFN

  • Thanks. Please remind me about what you wanted me to do a video; I have a severe case of CRS. Cant' Remember Shit.

  • Lol I might have CRS too! Dr Z Let me buy that meter from you, i really need one, and that one seems to have everything on it!

  • You should be able to get one like it at Johnstone Supply or Baker Distributing or any other HVAC supply store.

  • When checking amp draw, you can also select the MIN/MAX mode. The meter displays the maximum, or minimum, amperage reading. This mode is helpful when reading compressor amp draw at start-up.

Also, you can use Fieldpiece's Electronic Handle. It turns any Fieldpiece accessory head (like the amp clamp) into an individual tool/meter. It only costs $25. The only drawback is that I have to keep a minimum of three spare 9V batteries on hand at all times.

  • Thanks. I covered how to get the in-line rush amp reading in a previous video. I'll do it again in the next on.

  • just what i needed, thanks DrZarkloff

  • good job jim.

how is that cute wife tech of youres:)

  • Thanks. Becky might make another appearance soon.

  • oh baby a hottie :)

she can fix my ac any time but you have to be the supervisor :)

  • Very educational!... Ya know,If use a Multibrookemeter, you might get a more accurate reading, It has Brooke probes and a Brooke clamp for reading amps, and it also a built in accelerometer, Wifi, GPS, Weather station, Flowbee ,and tells you the time and temperature every half hour!:P

  • A multibrokemeter sounds like an extremely expensive meter, but I'm sure it's worth every penny.

  • That Fieldpiece HS-33 Stick Meter has more bang-for-the-buck than a Tijuana hooker. I own TWO of them... meters, not prostitutes.

That was one butt-kickin' tutorial on low voltage diagnostics, Doc. It would likely take a half dozen videos to demonstrate everything that Fieldpiece meter can do.

    As usual... great video.

  • Thanks. I plan to do resistance and ohms next.

  • But that is one nice meter, I love that the amp probe detaches, working on small RTU's can be a royal pain because some of them have the electrical panel right inside of the blower cabinent.

    Trane is famous for this...

  • I wouldn't have less of a multimeter.

  • Thanks for the inside scoop(s) on DMM/VOM use in HVAC applications. I like the "one hand" use of the probes on that high voltage circuit. Also, getting the right current reading with that clamp involves more than just knowing clamping a wire! Do you have some examples of resistance/continuity and capacitance tests?

    Keep up the good work.

    RL Atlanta, GA USA

  • I'll be doing resistance and ohms in the next video.

  • HAHAHA Brookers 14 miles ahead sure...

    That is one sweet meter

  • I thought you'd like that. Feel free to use the clip in any of your videos.

  • thanks for the good videos.

please, explain what means P.O.S and what is it, that is seen in the video "condenser compressor tripping breaker".

    Greetings from Venezuela.

  • P.O.S is what HVAC specialists refer to as piece of shit

  • P.O.S. means Piece of Shit. Thanks for watching.
