The only reason why this cop survived this .45 round is because he had his head turned to the left, and the .45 Caliber round entered his jaw at an angle, and penetrated straight thru, and out the left side of his jaw. Had he been facing the shooter, the bullet would have went straight thru his jaw, and out the top of his head.

If that cop was shot with a hollow point, he would have had half his head shot off, not half his jaw.
Also, the fact hes was shot in an area where little resistance was as oppose to center body with the cavity full of organs would have been displaced instead of teeth helped him too.
@Everett07630 that caliber is very similar to the 5.56x45mm NATO, it relies Very heavily on hydrostatic shock, which is in turn relies on velocity, Velocity can be very easily Changed and altered by outside forces.
@ToAstYNaChO There are WAY more ballistic option in 5.56mm NATO / .223Rem than the commie 5.45mm. I will still give the edge to 5.56mm NATO as being an overall better round. Thankfully as civilians we aren't bound to only use 5.56mm FMJ Ball :-)
He got really lucky that's all. People can survive extremely devastating rounds if the bullet hits them in just the right place. The thing is,... in a gun fight shot placement goes out the door and you generally want to up your caliber to compensate for lack of shot placement. However there are never any guarantees. For example I met a vet that had taken a 7.62X39 round right through his neck. The bullet missed everything by just millimeters. A miracle too be sure.
