  • heaven on earth! This is amazing...

  • Elizabeth Taylor !!!

  • Where was Mickey?

  • cont. : Debbie Reynolds, Ginger Rogers, Ann Rutherford, Alexis Smith, Craig Stevens, Gloria Swanson, James Stewart, Johnny Weissmuller, Russ Tamblyn, Audrey Tatter, Elizabeth Taylor, Keenan Wynn, Shirley Maclaine, Roddy McDowell and Lassie, Jimmy Durante.

  • In order,didn't get them all but at least what I got is:June Allyson,some woman,Fred Astaire, George Brent,Marge Champion,Cyd Charise,Jackie Cooper,Dan something,Dick something,Tom Drake, Bobby or Tommy something, someone,Glenn Ford,Eva and Zsa Zsa Gabor,some guy,Ava Gardner,Charlton Heston,George Hamilton,Howard Keel,Gene Kelly,Phyllis Kirk(?),Janet Leigh,Myrna Loy,Marjorie Main,unknown,Dennis Morgan,Nicholas brothers,Merle Oberon,Margaret and Virginia O'Brien,Donald O'Connor,Donna Reed,

  • Russ Tamblyn's bit was great lol

  • Awesome! Loved it! :)

  • i love you, ava x

  • I can't understand Liza's introductions

  • Dame Elizabeth Taylor was always my favorite.

  • What is the date of this event ?

  • This is true Hollywood! These are what a true movie star is! Todays stars are not even talented...give me the true movie stars of yesteryear!

  • So many lost, so many here, yet stars no less.

  • I count about ten of those I knew still living--Marge Champion, Ann Rutherford, George Hamilton, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Margaret O'brien, Debbie Reynolds, Vic Damone, Russ Tamblyn, Shirley MacClaine, and of course, Liza. If Jane Powell was there somewhere, she too is living. Had a hard time understanding most of Liza's intros so may have missed some. Wouldn't it be great to have all of those greats back. Would make it worth while to go to the movies!

  • what year was this? 1970? Loved seeing Elizabeth and Liza together just in the first minute. Oh so wish Judy Garland was there!

  • I didn't see Eleanor Powell...was she not there or did I miss her?

  • JUNE ALLYSON :D God I love her!!

  • @fctsui57 oh and Russ Tamblyn. Not sure who else still is but those are the ones I know are still alive today.

  • wait where's Jane Powell? :o she's my favourite. (well, next to Junie) xD

  • RUSS TAMBLYN! XD haha what a guy! xD

  • There's only one person who could have topped this off, Ms. Judy Garland

  • @xtinamadonnafan trudat. She was the most talented of them all but left us way too soon. :-(

  • OMG, this is priceless!!

  • This was a great assembly however there were so many more that needed to be there.

The talent of the past as a whole was a legacy that will never be matched.

  • OMG! Ginger Rogers AND Fred Astaire on the same stage ... NOT dancing together! lololol Such an amazing assembly of the best who ever were & remain ~~ sure takes me back to alotta wunnnerful memories why each are still to this day, so iconic. Seeing them even makes me cry a little ,~_~\\ Kudos & many thanks, Mernerwas..., for this fabulous upload, n'ZenSum!

  • Wow!

  • Gloria Swanson outdoes them all.

  • Frank and Mickey were not there because of Ava gardner !

  • wow. thats all i can really say. WOW.

  • Thanks so much for this.

No one sweeter than Myrna Loy!

  • They certainly don't have the caliber of stars or the movies that used to

be made in the Good Old Days.

    Bobbye

  • Amazing! I saw this back in 1974. Do great to see it again.

    Where was Robert Young?

  • They don't have a star to compete with these anymore, not even maybe

  • Those were the days my friend,

    I thought they'll never end....

Yes, those were the good old days of Hollywood when we used to deal with real stars, acting without the aid of computers and graphics. They have gone with the wind and will never come back.

  • Wow!

  • Ava still looks stunning!

  • what year is this

  • when was this?

  • @DebsTasha45 1974.

  • How many of them are still alvie???

  • @fctsui57 all I know is Zsa Zsa Gabor, Margaret O'Brien, Ann Rutherford, Liza and Debbie Reynolds are still alive today. Many of them died way too young. I wish Judy Garland could have lived to be in this moment. She'd have out shun them all! <3

  • Where was Lucille Ball? She worked for MGM in the 1940s.

  • Great to see all the enthusiasm here for the stars of classic Hollywood.

  • Liza calls out Phyllis Kirk's name while people are still applauding. Sheesh. Sammy Davis Jr. had the class to repeat her name. Poor Phyllis, she ended up in a wheel chair from her illness.

  • Where was Mickey Rooney...?

  • And....where was Sinatra?

  • The Gabor sisters? Movie stars? Kind of minor actors to be included in the group....but, as they say: "That's Show Business."

  • the hell was greer garson doing that day?

  • So many of these are new performers. Where are the great old stars?

  • @Rollich NEW STARS???? Almost all of them are dead!!!!!

  • Can anyone label them as they appeared. I can barely make out some of the names because of the applause. There are a couple I can't recognize.

    Thanks so much.

  • missing the big ONE... JUDY GARLAND!!!!! I m happy that was Liza for her mama!

  • Magnificent!! All my chilhood and teenage memories!! Nostalgia is here to stay!! Thanks for this MGM and Mernerwastaken!!!

  • I ALSO LOVED....

that Ava Gardner & Charlton Heston appeared together

at this event after the success they shared with the blockbuster

"EARTHQUAKE" in 1974.....they look good together !!!

  • I LOVED THE BEGINING.........

    with Ava Gardner footage.....

    Thank You !!

  • These folks were entertainers! Take a look...they sold their talent not their 'sexuality'. It would be wonderful to have entertainers now...instead of a disgusting show of a body function in every film that should be an embrassment to any decent person. THIS VIDEO TELLS IT ALL A SUPER BUNCH OF ACTORS AND ACTRESSES.

  • that was fantastic, thanks for sharing this!!

  • I froze for a second at "Mr. Roddy McDowall and his companion..." Then reality sunk in.

  • Comment removed

  • @leeleetwo Lies. All the Stars are clearly in the 50s & 60s here. It happened in 1974.

  • Great to see all these stars. Most are gone now.

  • Truly memorable, thank you for sharing it with us

  • wow how bright the stars used to be

  • Wish I could have met & worked with every one of them

  • this is greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttttttt:)

  • Thanks for sharing this. I remember seeing "That's Entertainment" on a PBS special. They also showed the 1949 25th anniversary MGM luncheon. This is the first time I saw the 50th anniversary video. For the most part I could hear the names just fine, just a few that I couldn't make out. I also noticed the roaring applause for Gene Kelly, one of my favorite song and dance stars of the MGM era. May he and the others who have passed on rest in peace. They were all stellar performers - true stars.

  • Wowww...with more stars than the sky

  • Tow that barge and lift that bale-get a little drunk and you land in jail. Oh no.lol

  • Great video. I, too, couldn't understand some of the audio; nevertheless, a fine moment caught forever in time. Several MGM stars missing, no doubt due to illness or other committments. One name among the missing not named: Red Skelton, a longtime MGM contract comedy player.

  • This absolutely brings tears! What a great assemblage of true stars. There are no stars left now - just moneymakers.

  • Thank you for posting this ... brought tears to my eyes...all that great talent, and I got to see it in my lifetime!

  • Thank you so much for those great movie stars and their historical motion pictures. I love you all.

  • This would have been a great place and time to have a brand new autograph book and a couple of Sharpies.

  • I wonder why these videos have distorting sounds to them. What would be the harm, to let us hear the names? I remembered many of the actors; but at the end I had distorting sounds of water running. I shared the video; but it wasn't really a great video, because of the audio.

  • @eggnog62 Unfortunately, in 1974, video technology was not what it is today. It was very hard to hear the names and I even remember seeing almost every last one of them in the movies. I was surprised at the overwhelming applause for Marjorie Main, who most people can't name, but she played the role of "Ma Kettle" on many, many old movies. The "sounds of water running" you heard is the real applause of the hundreds of people in the room unlike the "canned" applause you're used to hearing.

  • I think around this time (1974) the lovely Ann Miller would have benn touring with Mickey Rooney in "Sugar Babies" the revue which they both starred in on Broadway.

Angela Lansbury would be wowing audiences in the first revival of "Gypsy" on Broadwa,y or possibly still in it in London's West End before it transferred.

Bing Crosby was *I think* very ill in 1974 with some kind of lung infection.

1974 was also the year when they say Joan Crawford decided not to be seen in public anymore.

  • I am a HUGE old movie fan! Absolutely loved seeing this, but was also wondering what year it was. @lulunanask.. thanks for posting the year. :) This video definitely represents a different time, when people were famous for being talented! (I know- crazy, right?) Not like the Hiltons and Kardashians of our time. Loved this video!

  • Great to see, especially [for me] Ava and Elizabeth. No Lana Turner either???

  • I remember this it was on late at night. Should have been prime time.

  • This video is pure magic. most of this artists are Gone With the Wind.

but they can teach todays actors and actresses that is not only about the craft.

also about the glamour. this is the real hollywood. not the Paris Hilton of today.

or the kim kardashian. this are the real mccoy’s of entertainment.

they will always remain in our memories 4 ever. thanks for the video..it’s a jewel.

  • Think they mentioned that these stars were with MGM, "MGM Clan". Some big names missing --"Rooney, Fonda, Cooper, Grant and more---perhaps were with other production companies.

  • Now that's what I call ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

  • what a great trip down memory lane for me.. I grew up with almost all if not all.... loved this...

  • this was in the 70's :)

  • Amazing!

  • As George Patton was quoted, All glory is fleeting...Never will we see the persona that existed from the thirties to the seventies. It's over.

  • An incredible lineup of talent..... pure gold......

  • Marjorie Maine and Jimmy Durante!! WOW I loved the whole thing AMAZING to be able to get them all on one stage was incredible!! BUT those two oldies were just wonderful to see once more And I'm sure for the last time too..

  • WOW

  • This footage is so wonderful and in itself a great document of film history. Think of all those films that group made. Blows the mind. I have been fortunate to meet some of them in visits to Hollywood over the years and am greatful for the experience.

  • Everyone is dressed classy , not slutty or like a bum . Wearing furs and acting like dignified people . No one making a freakish or anti American statement , truly were the Stars of Hollywood.

  • wow! ma kettle and gloria swanson on the same stage. thanks for posting

  • It won't happen again because we no longer have any talent in hollyweird.......today it is which actor or actress has the longest criminal record or charges of breaking the law...........hollyweird is as useless as a fart in a windstorm

  • @biltom - Exactly! This is when we had real stars and now there ain't nothing in Hollywopod except for a bunch of talentless, monosyllabic souless felons.

  • @Bopalena I would say that whereas we, as Americans, all have our agendas, so do the stars of today....and they use their podiums for their agendas. as would I. I would not, though, call all the actors today, "monosyllabic, soul less felons"......some come close, but there are many good actors out there today! Not with the same studio system mentality (shut up or be jobless), but with their own style. Still waiting for someone to answer who is was with cane, between Gene Kelly and Janet Leigh?

  • @sarmadasco The lady with the cane was Phyllis Kirk.

  • @biltom yeh hollyweird is clogged up with shit, reptiles, jizzheads and lousy vomit merchants now, its over.

  • WOW ELIZABETH TAYLOR THE "STAR OF STARS" was so stunning in her beauty that night center stage & gorgeous. GOD'S gift to our world. She and Ava Gardner stand out as the two most beautiful stars in the MGM family. Rest warm Angels Eyes. We miss you both. We will never see your like again. REAL W O M E N!

  • Who was that, with cane, between Gene Kelly and Janet Leigh? Very sad that out of that group, 37 some odd years ago, so few are alive. Shirley Maclaine, Debbie Reynolds, Margaret O'brian, ???

Loved that applause that Marjorie Maine got, she must have been about 90! Bravo for them all!

  • @sarmadasco That was actress Phyllis Kirk. She was in the popular House of Wax with Vincent Price - and a few other films - did a lot of Broadway - and TV, including The Thin Man series with Peter Lawford - dated a lot of handsome celebrities, including Andre Previn - and was really lovely. Well liked and respected in Hollywood. She had polio as a child and passed away in 2006 at the age of 79.

  • @starlingbird I thank you. I never got the message that a message had been left or I would have thanked you earlier! Again, I thank you!

  • @sarmadasco That would have been 1974 so Marjorie Main was 84 years old and would pass away in LA the next year.

  • Elizabeth Taylor looked flawless and otherworldly. She outshone EVERYONE on that video, Violet Eyed Jade Mermaid Goddess Liz.

  • Audrey Totter rocks!

  • This is so wonderful and nostalgic. My deceased husband was in the motion picture business and worked with some of these actors, so it is especially

    meaningful and enjoyable to me.

  • What a great video clip! Elizabeth Taylor issunningly beautiful. So great to see all those great MGM starts together. A pity Katherine Hepburn was a no show.

  • Oh Donald O' Connor is such a gentleman! <3 Love this!

  • Simply "CLASSIC"!!!! Loved it! "Raz"

  • Wonderful memories of stars of long ago. It brought a few tears to my eyes...........more for those who are no longer with us.............and for the days gone by when guys wore their pants where they were mean to be worn: around their chests! And "Ah--white belts with white shoes" Simpler times............simpler lives. THAT's Entertainment!. :0

  • we do mis some of the stars ,maybe ill maybe in europe for cheap movies, maybe not so content with MGM ! not the finest company at the time ! Ava Gardner was in Holywood to do Earthquake for allmost a million that why Miss Gardner was there but not that she was thrilled to visit the event !

  • WOW! 1974? That's the year I was born. What I would give to have been there. BTW... where's Esther Williams and Eleanor Parker?

  • Comment removed

  • Elizabeth Taylor looks just gorgeous in that blue dress and with that enormous necklace. A true actress

  • @mckd3

Designed by Edith Head! What an incredible video!!

  • altho some of them weren't there, this is still epic! i mean. gosh, so many stars in one event. i can't fathom being conscious the whole time if i was there. :)

  • Alexis Smith looks Sensational for her age

  • WOW! Gloria Swanson totally took my breath away... too cute! and tiny... thanks for posting.

  • Oh my goodness utterly wonderful - its made my night thank you so much, Gloria Swansea, Marjorie Main and Myrna Loy - just sensational.

  • omg I was like yelling for the stars lol !!! it's so good to see them all together :( wish judy were there R.I.P Judy

  • This is amazing to see! Such a shame Judy had already passed away, she would have gotten the biggest applause of them all. I've looked for a picture taken that night but can't seem to find any. Cyd Charisse, Virginia O'Brien...-3 thanks so much for posting this!!!

  • @Stefanie0621 dear girl, Judy passed away at '69 so how could she have been there?

  • Wow! This is just incredible!! Thank you so much because it is wonderful to see so many stars together at once. Those are some of my favorite stars and for me to see them together is very interesting and remarkable!!

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • this is amazing!!! is this part of a dvd or something?

Many stars and im glad Liza Minnelli is there representing the biggest talent of them all Ms. Judy Garland!

  • thank u

  • Well...not all the stars.

Where's Kathryn Grayson, Esther Williams, Ann Miller, William Warfield, Carleton Carpenter, Mickey Rooney, Eleanor Powell, Frank Sinatra, Jane Powell, Peter Lawford, Bing Crosby, Ray Bolger, Allan Jones, Van Johnson...and...gasp...Joan Crawford?

  • @dannybex i agree its weird that many werent there i mean where is Mickey Rooney???

and also the one we miss Judy Garland ...so sad she did so many wonderful pictures for MGM and worked with most of the people in that event...

  • @dannybex

YEAH!!! Lol, to tell the truth, I didn't know half of them! :( Sucks not to see all of them!! LOL! I was wondering where Joan was too! Wasn't she sick during this time though?? It would have really rocked to see Esther Williams, Eleanor Powell, Frank Sinatra, (wasn't Bing Crosby apart of Paramount?) and so many others!!!

  • Sigh. I was about 9 years old when this took place. Yet I grew up watching and loving the old movies and musical. It's amazing to see this, I've seen 'That's Entertainment!' like 100 times lol.

Really sad to see so many have past on. R.I.P

If I could tell them all one thing, it would be that you are all dearly loved and still remembered and respected 36 years later.

  • OMG this is soooo EPICCCCCCC!!! please do you have more??!!!

  • so very happy with this video ,Ava Gardner on stage alive ,my a dream comes true thank you very very much, after 36 years I finally got to see it ,Ava gardner looks amazing

  • very impressive!!!!!

  • omg this is soooooo cool i love seeing all the stars :D there will never bee movie stars like this ever again

  • OMG! Thank you!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Can you tell us the year it occurred?

  • @lulunanask It's the 50th anniversary so I am guessing 1974

  • at the end of the video it stated this occurred at a 1949 luncheon.

  • @ninakimball26 definitely not...I don't know if you noticed but the majority of the people there looked as if they were in their sixties or seventies and dressed as if it were the seventies. Even though Ava Gardner looked amazing she did not have that many wrinkles in 1949. Or are you just trolling me?

  • @MGMingenue - I was incorrect, after going back and listening at the end it said NOT SINCE the 1949 luncheon....etc - sorry - but it probably was the sixties.

  • @Mernerwastaken From the information that I found it premiered May 29, 1974. Great video posting!!!

  • *Cheering like a maniac* ;D

    This is incredible!! Thanks!

  • This is FABULOUS! Thanks for posting!
