could somebody tell me what the main differences are between indy and cart, and are they both still running?I'm from europe and since we haven't got indy on tv anymore for many years....
Tony George last year bought the assets of CART and kept a few races mostly Long Beach Ca. Now we have Indy Racing League (IRL) and it is mostly ovals. They all use spec engines, chasis and tires really pretty dull racing. The bright spot is that Tony George got fired from the IRL and hopefully the racing will get better.
@m12shooter actually, of the 17 races, only 8 are on ovals, there are already proposals that have been submitted by 5 different manufacturers (lola, swift, dallara, BAT, and delta wing) for new chassis for 2012, and there are at least 3 manufacturers that I can recall (Honda, Audi, and Ford-Cosworth) that are taking part in discussions about new engines for 2012. All 3 were pushing for turbocharged engines either V6 or straight 4. It will get better. :) Especially since Tony George is gone.
Yes, I was just kind of referencing how much more success Roger had at Indy - his main focus as opposed to whole season championships (like Ganassi). He has had them but not as often as he has found success at Indy.
Derek Daly did cover this race and he is now the Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian. That is him talking at :40 of the video. He does a radio show in indy called "Talk of Gasoline Alley" where he will answer ANY question about the 500. He knows absurd facts from every driver and every race since 1911 in Indianapolis.
Wow, I am sorry. I was way off. I was thinking of Donald Davidson. However Derek Daly does cover the race for a local TV station here in Indianapolis. I only see him on there for the month of May however. Sorry for the mix up on that one. I am surprised I made that mistake.
Paul Page is a nut sometimes.

Its interesting how Fittipaldi didn't have that much success in CART championship but was just a solid performer at Indy.

And one last thing I forgot. His son Connor Daly is a racing driver now and is a main candidate for the USGP1 team that will enter F1 next year.
