  • There used to be a video of Sylvie Guillem's solo variation in either Cinderella or Cendrillon where she is dancing by the fireplace. It was, quite possibly, my favorite ballet piece ever. Does anyone know where to find a copy of this? Or does anyone have it and can upload it??

  • I wish I could have seen Sylvie dance this role in person. Does anyone know if there is a dvd of this version with Sylvie Guillem? She is unsurpassed.

  • Alas, I believe this has never been released on DVD.

I had the pleasure of seeing this performance live in 1989. I continue to think it was the most beautiful thing I've ever encountered. Some months later it was a "Great Performances" on PBS, and then the laser disc was released. I treasure it.

  • The best EVER ! I wan't to dance like her !!!

  • her arms...

  • this is my favorite ballet....after seeing this..i would never want to meet Sylvie..i fear i may crush her with love huggs LMAO...amazing vid..amazinh Sylvie...amazing Rudolph..AMAZING..(passes out)

  • all i can say is : wow

    lol

  • i think the turn on the heel is just fine........i feel in these roles a human element is important..not so much dancing perfectly robotic...the turn actually makes her costume flow with the music...the turn to me is etherial and looks as if Nureyev made her do that on purpose because she is who she is.a FANTASTIC dancer

  • how amazing

  • I envy her amazing talent. so beautiful.

  • gorgeous!!

  • WTF. just wow. that was amazing.

  • She looks like a butterfly fluttering around in the garden on a warm summer day. It looks easy and carefree, and yet what she does is so difficult and painful it is almost impossible.

  • ummmm 0:43 is amazing!!!

  • @bananahead82 Ha! I just watched that exact same step like 5 times in a role, she does it beautifully.

  • she is a godess with a gentle soul

  • WOW

  • this is gorgeous. my only criticism is the the nice pivot on the heel after the en dehour pirouette. gees sylvie, you should think about your weight placement! nah kidding, no ones perfect. i think she is stunning in this.

  • @missiheartballet ha ha yes you are right about the turn on her heel but she is so sweet that this mistake only makes you smile with tenderness

  • i love rudolph's cinderella better than any i have ever seen! i think that anyone would love it even if the did not like ballet! i also think children would love it. thanx for posting!

  • Ms. Guillem is always flawless. But I take issue to some of the things she is praised for...her extensions, her style, etc. deserve all the acclaim we can give her. But to praise her for her long legs or feet is ridiculous. It's like praising someone for having curly hair or nice knees. Praise should be given for things that are earned, not inherited. Show me a dancer whose feet were once broken or with very short legs who can do such extensions and THEN I will praise such things.

  • @TheSoulflower you are sort of right. But one thing: legs have a given structure and we all agree, but I have been a dancer myself and I can tell you that you also shape them with the right work and the right schooling! Same thing for feet....

  • @TheSoulflower True, but that's pretty much always been the case with ballet. Since those things are often the arbiter of whether or not a person has a chance to be a professional ballet dancer I guess it makes sense to some to praise people for them. Really I guess they should be sending flowers to her mom and dad!

  • simply....STUNNING!....wow...im speachles, shes effortless! wow!

  • I know. He looks like he was falling. I don't dance in a professional company or anything, but we have better guy dancers than him. As for Sylvie, i'm a huge fan of your work. You and Svetlana Zakharova are my favorite dancers. Love you.

  • i feel sorry for the man... sylvie outdoes him 1 million times better!

  • i must've seen her a hundred times but it still never fails to amaze me how easy she makes everything look. especially for her time, you know? she even gives the primas now a run for their money.

  • this is just...... SUBLIME!

  • everybody always talk about the height of Sylvie's legs, but very few praise her arms. I think they are as unique as her legs! Ballet as reached its peak with Sylvie. What happens afterwards?

  • @fabiolousful this is so true about her arms. they are beautiful, expressive yet still placed and not overly "fluffy" as i would say most american dancers have.

  • @fabiolousful svetlana zakharova

  • @serenevil yep, you're so right. she's definitely the cream of the crop.

  • @serenevil yeah right.......with all the respect for Svetlana.....she doesn't have a bit of the charisma that Sylvie has......Svetlana is great dancer Sylvie is an artist and a superstar: and in between lays the "beef".....

  • I know this will sound really ignorant, but Nureyev's choreography is quite strange...there are many "ugly" lines.

  • @sweetsugarpurple i know, you can see how it can be ugly when the man dances, but Sylvie makes everything look good. she just gets it.

i love the 20s theme sooooooo so so much!

  • haha its the 1920s bob and feather hairpiece

  • No one is in more control of their body than Sylvie Guillem.

  • I must have watched this 'Cinderella' a million times growing up; it's really a magical production - very risky.

  • shes so light and smooth and graceful. just amazing

  • Belíssima execução, mas que figurino mais horrível!!!!

  • Nureyev created this role for Sylvie... no one can do this better!

  • @catullo1983 Nobody can do any role better than Sylvie!

  • @catullo1983 How many different ballerinas have you seen dancing this variation?

  • she's just gorgeous, his costumes are soooo 80's...

  • Actually, it's set in the "Golden Age" of film, so the costumes are dated to the 20's.

Good eye, though...the 80s fashions make signature references to the 1920's!

  • Perfectly executed, of course. But, I dunno, I'm not so crazy about the costumes...

  • i love the costumes, 1920s are such a glamorous era

  • she just flies through the airs.

i love the white gloves. it makes her arms and hands look even more graceful.

  • what she does with her leg at about 0:56 is amazing. i love you sylvie

  • her legs are amazing!!!!!

  • Muuuuito bommm!!! :D o pé dela é liiiiiindo!!!
