  • Pretty innovative when it comes down to it.

  • R.I.P. Johnny Maestro (1939-2010) ~ Ellie Greenwich (1940-2009)

  • Notice how just at the end Paul says "Hello Eileen Brennan by the way hope..." I think this was his shout out to "Private Benjamin" star Eileen Brennan because she had been in a car accident and had her hip smashed in... She is close friends with Carol Kane so she had probably told him!

  • WOW! where has this been hiding

  • that guy in the begining got cut off, and hes not happy

  • They should have kept the camera on Carol Kane the whole time. Man, she was (is) gorgeous.

  • *happy sigh* I watched this the night it aired. Love, love, love.

  • Matisyahu who?

  • The difference between being Will Smith or being MC Hammer is a thin line indeed.

  • How could the greatest of the Do-Wops do this.. Its awful!

  • Sounds great...^^ wow!

  • haha. wow this is crap

  • @matsou10 lmao....you think? lol

  • A gem I just uncovered..Had no idea this existed. Talk about extremes. Way 2 go Paul Shaffer.

  • Obviously lots of talent and history here. Great to see Johnny Maestro in a performance I never knew he did. RIP, you're the greatest!

  • Johnny Maestro...the greatest bel canto in doo wop and rock and roll. Get well soon, Johnny.

Ellie Greenwich, who passed away in August 2009, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2010. She wrote many, many hit songs.

  • That's Carol Kane from "Taxi"!!! She was Latka's girlfriend. She also knocked out one of Bill Murray's teeth with a toaster in "Scrooged"

  • Yes it is. Carol King was on the studio track and the official video, but could not make is show. So Paul got another "Carol K." to fill in. I recall they were in a movie together, so that could be how they met.

  • Paul is CONNECTED to everyone in the music industry. Read his book. He's dorky, stoned, goofy, BUT COOL AS HELL!

  • GOOD LORD!! There's got to be 10 million dollars worth of talent in this video!

  • @djdaddym 10 million dollars with WIll Smith alone these days lol.

  • @PHATHCOX I just wished more actors who have made it big were more humble and revisit their old stomping grounds once in a while to wax poetic about their humble beginnings. YOu can see how introverted he is in this video and now he's like the king of New York when he comes to the show.. money makes the man I guess.

Hey thanks for this video clip. I was actually asking on the IMDB boards about Carole Kane because I was confused about Carole King and someone mentioned this show. So funny.

  • lol this is so epic

  • LOL AT WILL SMITH WTF HAHA OMG WTF!!!

  • aww that's a sell-out move. cheers to all!

  • "Coast to Coast" was a great album. Wish Paul would've released more solo stuff.

  • yep, still listen to Coast to Coast regularly.

  • Great collaberation of music. Good job!

  • Great to see this again. Love you Ellie, RIP

  • wow ahahahahaahahaaaa he is asking for some gum

  • i like pauls dancing

  • LOL @ will Smith before he was famous

  • @geoff101001 he's been famous since 1986, he was a sucessful rapper as Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff....He didn't get his show until 90, but he was famous before that.

  • @geoff101001 umm... really? If he wasn't famous then, why would PS introduce him? And why would he be what was really the main act? That was the pinnacle of his musical career.

  • I think this is the most I've ever heard Paul Shaffer talk or sing in any episode of the Letterman show. Good stuff!

  • Can anybody identify the keyboard Paul is using in this video? thanks!

  • hey, although i'm not recognizing much factory preset patch going on, what i can make out in the pic looks like a roland D-50 to me. not sure at all though.

  • cool keyboard playin, love this song!

  • dude when i was a kid back in the 80s i used to walk the streets of south central LA blasting this on my boombox......i sure got beat up alot back then

  • this is my dad' s song. You stole it!! James Hazlett my dads name is kevin hazlett

  • I remember this from back in '89 when I was a kid. Does anybody have the actual video to this song. My sister and I did a cover of this song in 1990.

  • What are you talking about??? This is from the era when rap was GOOD.

  • 80's overload

  • Daddy-o always ripped it!!!!!

    go stetsa!!!

  • I don't like rap but I sure do like this. It was great. Maybe I just don't understand rap but I do understand this. A contradiction I know I know. Five *****

    Thanks for putting this up.

  • Funniest part of this video: Paul Shaffer's hilarious comb over hairstyle.

  • carol kane singing that's so cute

  • i know, wasn't she in the MTV video for this song?

  • What a great video! Anything with johnny m rules1 Doo opp rules! GREAT!

  • wish I could hear all that great Doo Wop talent without the rap crap

  • It's all good. I liked the juxtaposition. Nice to hear old school Will Smith.

  • what i meant from my last comment was paul fucked the song up

  • could someone post the original "Late nite" theme? The band cooks on that one

  • i think the parts where paul sang killed it

  • What an astounding combination of talent! Interesting how Will Smith steals the show - first signs of a superstar in the making. But there are no slouches aboard at all. And, as the others have said, the doo-wop guys (and women) are superb. Bonus points for Ellie Greenwich and Bobby Jay in the crowd. (I just saw Jay Seigel live on May 29 '08; he's still got it!)

  • Doo Wop Rules! So much talent on one stage. Johnny Maestro... the greatest bel canto doo wop & rock and roll singer.

  • Let's hear it for the legendary doo-wop crew !! We want more - from them. Thanks for this.

  • Amazing.

  • what a waste of talent!

  • Where is the actual music video?

  • omg....i've been searching for this....i actually remember liking this song....what a mistake...this is sooooooo stupid...can't believe i liked this...unless will smith did another song with paul shaffer...

  • What fun! Haven't seen this in years. Thanks a million.

  • good concept but less paul vocals, more use of the

all-star doowop crew.. beginning part is best

  • LOL... WIll Smith... Nice running man. Wow I actually used to like this song when I was a youngster.

  • i was so down and this just made me feel like the whole world and life is just A ok, like...... nothing can be as bad as this...... i mean, as long as we dont go back here then were fine

  • History!!!!!

  • Stupid noise.

  • WTF!

  • You took the words outtas my mouth...never the less, gotta give it 5 stars for the doo wop crew.
