taffy living far away ! a sad and lovley song that remindes us of the people we knew that realy did pay that price. never will I forget ?. never will the memories of WALES ever leave my mind.
Wow, great song & performance, a real tribute to miners around the world. This should be right up there with Rita MacNeil original Working Man & David Alexander version of Working Man
A young Scottish boy sung this to me last night, I live on the other side of this mountain where the disaster happened, there was a coal tip behind my house for many years but that too started sliding, thank goodness the council took it away before any damage was done. My father too was a miner and so was his father, this song touches everyone hearts, we still moan the day it happened and pray that no one will ever forget.
we are still paying.. and I see the ads on tv by the Americans trying to promote "clean coal". They are the ones who have to keep plucking their miners out of collapses in Pennsylvania and the like! We prayed hard for a week, and miraculously they all came out! Praise God. A miracle God should never have had to do..
Love all of Paul Child songs. I had my very first visit to South Wales last year. My father was a South Welshman and it was beautiful to go over and see such a lovely country. Thank you for posting these songs. If I could see the Rhondda is my favourite. My father came from the next valley. I'm an aussie but very proud of my Welsh heritage. Thank you once again.
This is one of my favurite songs, My dad and his dad were coal miners. I never realised what a dangerous job they did till I read up on all the mining disasters. It must have been the worst thing in the world to be trapped under ground with no way out when things went wrong.
remembering Aberfan 45 years on.we will never forget

A Welshman stood at the golden gate, his head was bent and low.
He meekly asked the man of fate, The way that he should go.
'What have you done' St. Peter said 'To gain admission here?'
'I merely mined for coal' he said, 'for many and many a year.'
St. Peter opened wide the gate, And softly tolled the bell.
'Come and choose your harp' he said 'You've had your share of hell.' Remembering the miners of Gleision - R.I.P. May God keep you safe
