Chirping when he close the throttle / lift his foot from the gas pedal? For instance at 1:29, 2:09, 2:27 etc.? I guess the sound comes from the central differential which devides power between front and rear axles. The same chirping can be heard from WRCs during engine braking.

@OttovonEarth That is indeed an engine chirp, not drivetrain chirp. I was lead to believe it's the wastegate decompressing the turbo, because it has to come down to speeds to match the next rpm engagement of the next gear.

@OttovonEarth Heh one of the difficult things to find, I have witnessed. It's always on turbo'd cars, and for the most part, on rally vehicles.

@BeeRich33 Better thinking, you were much closer BR, but it is not the wastegate on the exhaust side either. Perhaps the chirping comes from the blow of valve which let compressed air out from the intake side when throttle is shut after flat out, otherwise the compressed air would slow spinning 'cause there's no need for extra air when the throttle is closed. The anti-lag system (bangs) keep the axle spinning by feeding fuel before the turbine to get immediately response for accelerate.

@OttovonEarth Yes, that's what I meant. Exhaust side is upstream, not downstream. Engine exhaust. That's what drives the impeller. When changing gears, and you need the boost, your rpms are going to go lower in a higher gear, so you need to reduce the volumetric output on the impeller, so you have to quickly reduce the pressure to help meet that resulting rotational speed.

In any case, it's always been a great sound.

I did mention previously about the "blow OF valve," I'm not sure whether should it be as "blow OFF valve" - I'm more than a bit foggy on with these English terms without talkin' about the whole bloody language.

The Block of the S1 ( 2144ccm ) is a Alu Block . Since the "Ur" Quattro whent out of production there where no more Alu-Blocks from Audi .

@tzurka- your right, it's not the same block but the 2.2 is capable of a 1500 HP build. The urs4 2.2 engine is actually better than the 2.1. The 2.2 is the most refined inline 5 turbo they made.

I have a 1995 pearl/black 5 cylinder, 20 valve turbo 5 speed S6. 4 heated leather seats, Bose 10 CD, etc. Box stock. 190,000 miles. 0-60 6.2 seconds, 150 mph top speed. VERY reliable and fast. Thank you Audi! My new car is a 2004 Audi allroad V8. I live in snowy Michigan. Air suspension makes it a "go anywhere, no excuses" car. Love Audi Quattros!

nope, the Peugeot 205 T16 was better because of better weight distribution.

Had the Ford RS200 been developed to it's full potential it would have even topped the Peugeot. Bit then the GrB cars got the axe...

Still, those Ur-Quattro's give me goosebumps!

wrong, the RS200 would never have topped the 205 T16, the peugeot was fourwheel drive + the fact this new era of rally cars at the time were running at over 600bhp, thts when group b was introduced and not many years later it was stopped all together because the cars were too fast, the audi above had the 4WD system from a tractor for instance

the peugeot was only slightly faster on pkes peak and according to walther there was much space left to improve his time cause the didnt wanna risk much and he made some mistakes. Also the Peugeot record was one year later which means more time to develop. Audi never made a 2nd attempt.
