  • @GipsyKingsOfficial Gypsies come from India...

  • @GipsyKingsOfficial These are the ancestors of the Gypsies, you deny the origins of gypsies or you do not know their history, in both cases, shame on you!

  • @GipsyKingsOfficial it is believed that Indian gypsies are the original gypsies. Not sure if they are ancestors in terms of being ethnically the forerunners of the Roma in Europe.

  • Shining, Great.

  • Juste un historique du peuple Rom venu d'Inde il y mille ans.

Just a history of Rom people come from India a thousand years there.

  • @SIRA4LIFE Yes, the film is Latcho Drom, written and directed by Tony Gatlif in 1993.

  • @LinnieK9 this is great song of ramdev ji maharaj ., jai rama pir

  • traditional way of singing ought to be preserved. This is beautiful, this is passion, passion expressed thought songs and I hope it remains timeless

  • Thank you for sharing this with us and giving us the chance to enjoy it. It's really beautiful.

I'd love to see the movie but I don't know where can I find it.

  • ála

  • first 8 mins of the video is bhajan( praise to lord ramdevji), he was the angel for people who were helpless and poor. his true powers were tested before he was given saint title, hope this helps

  • cinematography is really awesome...these are praying to god..saying listen my voice my lord ..i m calling you..:)

  • who ever says these people arent Roma are not listening especialy when the guy is singing to his wife. LOL I couldn't believe how much I understood. When he's singing he's singing to his wife and family and says it all. LISTEN to it....

  • beautifull people - respect. bravo tony gatlif

  • wow this indian music is very profound, the scales and melodies, and rhythmic patterns are quite complicatet yet beautiful :-)

  • They aren"t gypsies ,we aren" from India!

  • Excellent ... but this is some very obscure dialect of Rajisthani language....

  • i am rom usa n i know the romana linguage very good n it is not romana at all n not all so call gypsys r roma 2 say roma is 2 say mi or r ppl 2 say guyjo is 2 say not r ppl n all all indians r guyjos 2 us fact n we not org from india fact

  • @PaulSnake10

You might find the Wikipedia article "Romani language" enlightening. The seven major branches of the language are not necessarily mutually intelligible. (For comparison- English, German, and Dutch are related but hardly identical. ) Perhaps with a bit more study you could see the relationship between the language you speak and other dialects.

  • Latcho Drom

  • my god, what a screen presence the pink turban singer has!

  • 2.02

  • what is this scene about?

  • @Blueberry40 I believe it takes place before (or after) a wedding ceremony. Sorry I can't be more specific.

  • @Blueberry40 i understand rajasthani as i ws born in this land with these ppl around me they used to sing for my family and different occasions be it marriage or prayers to God its been long i've been away from rajasthan .. in 1994 i shifted to dubai .. well the starting part they r praying the line where they say " mharo haelo sunno ni ramapii" it means O listen to me O RamaPir. Ramapir is a deity"God". while de part where the guy is singing dat is gypsy or rajasthani poetry...he is actually

  • @Blueberry40 in first song they were singing kind of prayer asking Lord Ram to listen and take their pain.

  • @Blueberry40 "these are praying to god..saying listen to my voice my lord ..i m calling you"

  • @Blueberry40 he sings about how he adores his wife

  • @Blueberry40 They are praying to god for their health and for their good and for their family. ( I Know because i am rajasthani and i remember this song.) in second song singer is praising woman.

  • the language is also very gypsy

i m a rajasthani i couldnt understand the whole song

rajasthani music have a turkish or middle eastern touch in it

when you listen to it kinda feels like deserted heaven ,very emotional

  • @jayat90 well ur wrong....the middle easterna and islamic touches where taken back to arabia and turkey by islamic invaders..not the other way round.......

alot of arabic and turkish customs have an indian origin.

  • Many of the Gypsies adopted the religions of the regions they settled in or traveled through. Hence the ones in the Middle east and europe are either Muslim or Christian.

  • superb

  • Suti panaga bachai...jaba jago

This song is really awesome, the way he sings and the music compilation without using any modern gadgetary really rocks..

The karthal guy also totally involved ...............

Really a great post thanks bro.

I saw this Latcho drom so many times but every time when i start watching the movie it feels like first time.

  • 13 taal dance song...

  • If the UNESCO could give its "Human Heritage" to a movie, Tony Gatliff's movies "Vengo" and "Latcho drom" would surerly deserve this honor.

  • @musicalix I certainly agree. His films are remarkable--never get tired of watching them. Unfortunately I've had to buy most of them outside of the US. Opre Roma!

  • @musicalix what a great idea :-)

  • Beautiful and fascinating.

  • i like this very much...tears over my face..what can i say about this..love

  • What is the mening when the guy who sing starts whit hes fingers at 05:38?

  • I saw this movie yesterday, very impressive and moving, I was deeply touched, thanks

  • @Anavyia I am dying to see it,can't get ahold it! where'd you find it?!

  • @Anavyia This guy is like casting a spell on his feminine audience... Just look at the suggestives looks they are giving him...wow!

  • have you ever seen anyone rock those little cymbals like that? Where can you find anything cooler than this on youtube? NOWHERE

  • its song for rama peer

  • Beautiful.

  • 1ROOT

  • Gypsies are very much unappreciated.

  • we must turn gypsies now

  • you do know that these kind of gypsies are a minority amongst gypsies themselves

that is why we are having problems now in Romania

  • Correction: their reaction to what he is singing.

  • I really love this song! I already knew this documentary, but because of financial issues, only now it is played in Dutch theaters ( in Amsterdam at least). I wonder if the singer has two wifes, because it's a kind of love song, and they are both smiling. It's really nice to see their reaction to what they are singing, and they are really beautifull.

  • just amazing! gypsies rock!

  • roma. not gypsy.

  • i love the later song, but haha i love watching at 4 36 in the back what walks in the camera. hahaha

  • The lighting is amazing.

  • my favorite part is 6:05!!!!

  • lo vi hace 10 años y me marco .....es una obra de arte ... creo q ..la vida puede ser sencilla y alegre..... ...

  • En una palabra PRECIOSO.

Los colores, el desierto es ASOMBRANTE.

    Dios os bendiga

  • awesome culture

  • Unique!

  • Some say flamenco dance its similar with kathak dance, although some say origin of flamenco came from kathak, in fact kathak n flamenco influence by arab, persian n turkish dance style when islam cilivization era in india n españa al-andalus. But kathak not an india gypsies dance. Kathak dance practice by muslim courtesan not a gypsies tribe.

  • Arabs learned their dance from the gypsies who came from India

  • Kathak dance arose out of the Indian classical dances, which all have their roots in South India. Kathak is a dance that, like other classical Indian dances, recounts Hindu tales through its gestures. It was brought into the Islamic courts of India and was influenced by Middle Eastern dances, particularly in its costume, but it ultimately derives from Indian classical dance form.

  • @FaridElhanMalaysia kathak has a science behind it..lease look at " HAND MUDRAS" and energy transfer between fingers and pressure points..and healing...it is not just a dance it is a healing process....but I am sorry it is aPRE-islamic and PRE-christian culture and sciene...sorry. It is very old, sorry, not a New cutlure sorry again.

  • Names of all singers and performers are listed at the end of this film "Latcho Drom" and majority of them are muslim names.

  • This has got to be one of my favorite performances. This feature as a whole is quite fascinating. I love watching this guy... I can't get enough. He has such presence! He must be famous. Does anyone know the name of this performer?

  • Gazi Khan Manghaniyar

  • This must be one of my most favorite performances. This guy is amazing! Such presence! Is he a known performer? Do any of you know his name?

  • i am really intersted in this culture an di believe Gypsy people have a fertile culture. but i can not understand indian language.!! also the transformation from indian rythem to spanish flamenco..fascinating. i would liek to know more about it..

  • All this talent , all this virtuosity, seemingly sprouts from the sand dunes of Rajasthan, for as far as I know, these folks were never formally schooled in music by any "gharana." Yet they can enrapture us so magically. Hats off to them. Thanks for posting this clip,LinnieK9.

  • I think they are muslim gypsy in india

  • Comment removed

  • not two thousand years ago!

  • no buddy, these r hindu gypsy and this is a devotional song which they are singing abt a warrior and a great king "baba ramdev" son of king "ajmal singh". although there r muslim gypsies too in india (rajasthan) and are really great singers of folk songs.

  • but those gypsy here are mixed up ..i know for fact the lead singer musafer is muslim !

but they are majority hindus in this video!

  • they from rajasthan/India our ancestors its like the easiest place about religions so a whole lot of indian gypsy are muslim some are hindu but they are gypsy and stick together !

i myself am french gypsy and muslim elhamdulillah!

  • no they are Hindus I'm thinking

  • Any of you ever heard of Amazon? They carry it. Go figure. Prof must not be looking too hard.

  • GREAT video. Just shows us how rich in culture these people are. It is astounding how some of our non-gypsy culture shares some of their characterisitics and yet people discriminate against them.

  • You do know this is a full length movie right? I saw it years ago in the theatre.I own the CD and my kids gave me the DVD. It's not very cheerful or "free" at all if you know anything about Gypsies or Romani. I'm Hungarian and married to an Indian. Gypsies are reviled everywhere. Only tourists throw them a few pennies. That's what the movie is about, the travel of the Gypsies from India through the balkans to Western Europe ending in Spain. How romantic you all find this-but then-you leave.

  • My professor showed us this film in our art/chicano studies class. Hes been looking all over for the DVD [he has it in vhs]. Where can we buy it?

  • this is the jam right here, sweet film altogether

  • The solo singer towards the middle of the film - AWESOME! Classical and hypnotic! A true example of real talent and skill. A real jewel of the orient. And the women are the most beautiful on the planet!!! I want to visit Rajastan someday.

  • can you upload this again

  • sick that are my moms ancestors

  • How magical ...

  • i will surely visit jaisalmer/rajastan..this is too good. i like rajastani music

  • If you are able to..you should really go visit Rajastan some day..its worth it..and youll never forget!
