This documentary is probably the greatest documentary ever. This and "the kids are alright". Cause they dont fill it with bullshit commentary and just cover the actual musicians doing what they do. So many documentaries fail, because they fail to see this point. Film the musicians, show the film. Its that simple. And this is an extraordinary piece of directing too.
Mick Taylor? He was so played down in this band. Almost like he was considered temporary. He carried this band in a time when a strong lead guitar was do or die.
I hate it when movie directors take the liberty of chopping and splicing a song, in this case they cut out the second verse. What if someone had taken out the arms of the Mona Lisa for the sake of saving space in the gallery?
@iorr98 Yeah, Gimme Shelter documents the foul up of Altamont and not the band's music, and that is a absolute shame. Still there is "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones" finally released on DVD and BluRay about a year or two ago and highly recommended.
yeh this tour, and the get yer ya-ya's album ... mick t. makes it! best guitar album ever ... hendrix, clapton, yeh, yeh, whoever, right ... nothin i have heard touches this!
MT is so damn great it's hard to believe. It's like he sees another string and extra frets that the rest of us don't. What beautifully perfect two solos.
Love the 'Gimme Shelter' movie. The slowed filming here captured that daunting, foreboding mood that something bad was going to happen so so so so so well.
This recording is from "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out!" One of the best Mick Taylor slide guitar solos there is.

Mick Taylor's slide guitar in live performances of "Love in Vain" always get me choked up for some strange yet magical reason...

also, mick taylor blows my mind when he plays slide. SO FUCKING GOOD> people need to recognize his underappreciated talent.

Gotta say... I do prefer MT's electric slide solo to RC's mandolin solo.

Actually this LIV is from the Baltimore Nov. 26 show, not MSG. It's also incomplete (When the train comes in the station etc.... isn't there).
