I heard this was nightmare fuel from TV Tropes. I'm not from Canada, but if I were a kid who grew up there, this ad would've terrified the heck out of me.
I can't help but notice there's no real message in this commercial. They try showing a montage of people who have overdosed with drugs, fine, but kids aren't necessarily going to know about those people unless it's (as Nostalgia Critic said) EXPLAINED!
And then on top of that, saying "it's just not worth the time" is kind of an understatement if we're talking about overdosing! Oh yeah, it's just not worth the time it'll take to overdose!
How did that guy managed to get out of his house and seek that safetly proper place to sell drugs? How did those little bastards of hell managed to unpaste those drugs from his hands? And, why, oh, god why, did you allow the "Concerned Children´s Advertisers" (????) to commit the must ungraceful and nefarious irony on the history of children ads???

so if the kids don't reconize the celebs that flashed by and why they're there, than whats the point? cuz when I was very very little I wouldn't have known any of them.

What I'm getting at is though, Those eyes at the end scared the f*ck outta me, and this is coming from a guy who's seen all "Friday The 13th" movies and 2 "A Nightmare On Em Street" movies.
I saw the one where they actually zoomed in on his eyes (before it was banned & reedited)), only once in 1993 on YTV when I like 6. I was literally traumatized. I woke up crying from nightmares for a while. Seriously what demographic were they going after? umm Little kids who watch YTV (ie. the use of puppets), but are also familiar with the idea of needle drugs, and who can recognize Joplin and Hendrix and respond maturely to a man with scary eyes. Sound like many 6 year olds you know?
OMG!!! i never thought i would find it. this commercial scared the crap out of me when i was little. too tell you the truth, it still scares me a little.
I remember seeing this back in either 1992 or 1993. I only saw it once, but I certainly had the wind knocked out of me when those sunglasses were lowered... PSAs sure aren't what they used to be!
Did I see pictures of Elvis,John Belushi and Jim Morrison flash by at warp speed in B&W in that PSA?Don't take drugs or you'll end up as ugly as those puppets.
I remember this from when I was four years old. It traumatized me.
