I'm from London and I've only been to Liverpool once. I was very impressed with the city centre (stayed at the Adelphi Hotel). I saw this on Jonathan Ross and was surprised by Ringo's attitude. He wasn't very complimentary, or particularly interested, in Liverpool. The things he said apparently caused a lot of controversy in the city - radio phones ins, newspaper editorials etc. Funny behaviour from Mr Richard Starkey.

Okay Ringo may have been being honest, but he was a tactless twat here for dissing his home town in this way. The people of Liverpool are amazing, and the city itself has changed so much in recent years - Liverpudlians themselves were laughing at 'city of culture' but they are also very proud. Coming from someone from Liverpool, Ringo has probably helped pump millions upon millions of pounds towards Liverpool's tourism industry, he's done more than enough for the city.

Lennon's comment you mention was sarcastic. Not to get IT is not to get HIM. Ringo was a unique talent as a drummer. There may be faster, more technical, drummers but Ringo had a Beatle soul. A true songwriters drummer. He was the only drummer versatile enough to be in the Beatles. He says nothing here that disrespects my Liverpool home. If you're from the north of England, you can get more of why people were upset about this. Liverpool's always took fierce pride in the Beatles, and rightly so.

I'm from London and I've only been to Liverpool once. I was very impressed with the city centre (stayed at the Adelphi Hotel). I saw this on Jonathan Ross and was surprised by Ringo's attitude. He wasn't very complimentary, or particularly interested, in Liverpool. The things he said apparently caused a lot of controversy in the city - radio phones ins, newspaper editorials etc. Funny behaviour from Mr Richard Starkey.

If you look at the supposed disrespecting of the liverpool, he does actually say he loves the city and he enjoyed the opening ceremony weekend. he lets himself down by saying 'i had to tell them i was this close to moving back' - a bit patronising. also the comment about having to be dead to have anything good named after you was in poor taste, seeing as how john was his mate. final note, the only people who slag off the city are the ones who've never been!

plus when ringo was growing up in the fifties liverpool was a brutal shit hole. he and the other beatles hated it and wanted to leave the place behind and never return. he's probably still got bad memries of Liverpool. now of cource we know that since the nineties alot of liverpool has become very cosmopolitan and gentrified and like other British cities, has left the post war gloom behind.

There are lots of great things about liverpool but lets face it, its a port so thievery has always been a large part of its culture and because of that its got some absolutely vile people living there....complete twats basically.

This is OUR year, we Won Capital of Culture because of the People... Not because of events or any other reason.
Ringo disrespected us, if he's so proud of LA he should stay there. He's up his own arse anyway, simply used us and Liverpool to prmote himself. In stark contrast Paul McCartney gave us nothing but praise on the Jools Holland Show.
