  • I can understand he is referring to the "pressure" on the subject's foot...but then the subject should know what is going on over there(because he is just in a relaxed state.he is not passed out). so why would he be surprised then?

  • Not as good as the stuff in the Mindreading Exposed ebook

  • The pressure he refers to is his foot on the subjects foot. He lets the "pressure" off his foot off the subjects foot and the subject responds. Whenever he does this trick his foot will be concealed is some fashion.

  • @IrkenRob

Do you know this 4 sure? Because that is what I figured out for myself as well

  • Using this method, everyone's getting drunk at his pace!

No one wins the drinking contest!

    Alex is a bit attractive.

  • Using this method, everyone's getting drunk at his pace!

  • Derren has made a deal with Alex, when I kick you under the table you will raise your wine glass ... that's all

  • Comment removed

  • He's giving the hypnotized man instructions like "I will take a sip from my glass, you will feel the pressure release and when you do, you will take a sip too".

He puts his foot on the hypnotized man's foot... and when he drinks, he releases the "pressure"... causing him to drink.

It is amazing showmanship and hypnotizing talent even still!

  • let's just say that if derren brown wanted to start a colt .... the world is screwed lol

  • Comment removed

  • @archangul he was!

  • how great that Derren was born in the 20th century. Only couple centuries back they would have burned him.

  • @Dimi000 LOL!!!

  • @Dimi000 and if he was born 20 centuries ago, we would've worshiped him today.

  • What if just what if he was kikin his foot from underneath the table?

    Just a thought

  • @archangul

exactly what I thought. And maybe the rest is gullibele in believing this.

  • @archangul wat about when he made the other two people do it

  • he's touching his foot when he wants him to drink. simple.

  • I shag the arse off her.

  • Sweet technique, good work as always Derren

  • its real, why do u think they werent filming his feet? and if u are gonna say the people would have found out. they were all mesmerised by him when he was drinking

  • damn thats gnarly!

  • HEY!! CAN SOMEONE can give me the clear word Derren says when he made the pie face induction hahaha. . .I heard Like "what was your name [alex] alex? and "down" look at your hand as your eyes close. . ." wew. . .is the DOWN the suggestion??

  • No he says "Alex, I'm Derren, look at your hand, let your eyes close, and good."

  • @asdeadasleaves999 OK! thank you very much! :D

  • @kinismaster I'm Derren... but it is not a suggestion, it is a pattern confusion, it is a nice phenomenon...

  • @AdamsTeinz wew! gee thanks. by now I have hypnotized 2 people. my brother and my girlfriend. but I guess they are just helping me out, like they are pretending for me not to be embarrased. lol

  • @kinismaster I can tell you, I am not persuaded by it myself, but when I saw someone freaking out about a floating wallet, which my friend (invisible for the hypnotised) was holding, I started to believe. If you want any help (scripts, issues), just write.

  • @AdamsTeinz heys! thanks for the reply. I used Derren's Handshake Interrupt but it doesn't work xD

well. . .I saw this vid. . .a bit slower but can make people go into trance very deep xD

and there's a bat flying about my window o.O I gotta go

  • @kinismaster The handshake technique doesn't take a random speed, slower or faster, you adopt the speed the persons hand is coming out, take it on and put it to their face at the same speed they lifted their hand.

  • @Nickhatred893 there was smthin funny about derrens induction shouldnt there be words that acompany the "handshake" or come after the handshake ?

  • @haris000000 There was somthin funny, i'd say that "Alex" was a very suggestive man, and the words relax put him in that hypnotic state. I'm not an expert

  • @haris000000 maybey derren had hypnotised him before nd second tim its fairly easy

  • Fake, Derren Brown taps that blonde dudes foot when he wants him to drink. Notice he stays next to him the entire time and he only LOOKS away not Turns away.. Good show though, he almost had me fooled.

  • I think this argument doesn't hold true, here's why, if you accept the premise that the blond dude is working with him might as well just accept that they are all payed actors doing the show for TV.

it seems kind of pointless to go down the way of using a "partner" for a show on TV, but not get everyone in the room in on the trick, you could even do more insane and spectacular stuff that way.

  • hes gay!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fuck you motherfucker!@!!! I'll fuck you till you love me faggot!!

    btw I gave u a thumbs up....

  • Funny, if you listen well you can hear Derren say: "when you feel the pressure realease.." Derren is putting his shoe on his shoe en releasing the pressure when he wants it. Therefore Alex can even be blindfolded. The rapid induction is great. Derren is such a nice and sensitive person. And a great showman!

  • was that a handshake interupt induction that he did to that alex guy?

  • yeah, exactly... found out by master - Milton Erickson :)

  • you are wrong.. that is not a handshake induction. that is another thing...

and the handshake induction was not found my Dr. Erickson, but by Richard Bandler.

  • No it was definitely developed by Erickson. Bandler learned it from Erickson, as well as everything else that he knows.

  • It's not like she saw black instead of red - it's that she was made to believe that red is "black", the word "black" would otherwise mean red. same for "yellow" meaning red.

Think about it, sometimes you're actually refering to one thing but calling it another thing - for instance when you call a person in the name of another.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOW

  • im sorry but what does nlp stand for?

  • @XHANKILLERX Neuro Linguistic Programming

  • @XHANKILLERX

    neural linguistic programing

  • Neuro Linguistic Programming

  • @XHANKILLERX google it

  • @XHANKILLERX neuro linguistic programming

  • nice!

    like this!

  • no hes putting pressure on his foot dats y he wanted 2 get close 2 him

  • In this video, Darren is not demonstrating "mind control" over the gentleman to his right... rather, he is demonstrating mind control over the captivated audience in the room as well as you, the viewer. This is clearly a "trick", but he has convinced the audience that it is real. So, he actually used NLP on the audience, not the man holding the glass.

  • rapport is just gaining people's trust and making people feel absolutely good and comfortable around you. people with natural charisma and con-artists, etc. either consciously or unconsciously understand how to quickly establish a connection with strangers. they are masters of social interaction for one reason or another.

  • That, and he's put in trance, and with his eyes closed Derren says you'll feel a pressure 'here' in saying so he gestures at the hand but under the table steps on his toe. To the guy with eyes closed, the pressure he feels is real, and on his foot. A guy did it in TED too. Great trick.

  • That makes perfect sense.

  • @harryfmk Derren himself did it at TED.

  • @crashanddie I have found no evidence of this - are you sure? Could you provide a link? I love his work. Keith Barry is the guy from TED I talked about. Barry gave it away because the tablecloth was out of place in his one.

  • @harryfmk Ah my bad. Indeed, it's Keith. Don't know why I got confused between the two. Probably because of the "pressure" gig, which was exactly the same... Sorry for the confusion.

  • @crashanddie that wasn't derren.

  • @harryfmk lol that's exactly it ...

  • suckers

  • sorry i am new in all this .... what exactly is rapport???

  • fake

  • Notice that when he tells him, " you will feel pressure around here" the mans eyes are closed! That was for us onlookers. I think he put pressure on his foot when he told him he would "feel prssure around here." He couldn't see where he was supposed to feel pressure. When Derren turns away he never turned his body away, just his head. I think it was his foot applying the pressure. He's so tricky, I love it!

  • A lot of people get angry or disappointed when they realize not everything Derren does is based on mind control or NLP. Sometimes he just does his showmen thing. And he's awesome at it.

  • @EclecticNerd yeah - some of it is just plain old fake - but I guess the main thing is the fantasies of the viewers going.

  • @EclecticNerd "NLP is a tool that blends aspects of Behaviourism and Chomskian Linguistics into a highly evangelical package. It has built around itself a RATHER CREEPY scene and in a rather dubious and unchecked way has become a massive industry. Having trained with the founder of NLP, I find it a mixture of sensible and appealing methods for dealing with low-level pathologies such as phobias and fears on the one hand, and SHEER DAFT NONSENSE and massive rhetoric on the other." - Derren Brown

  • i think i got this one figured out! ok, once he induces trance (when the guys head falls and he seems asleep) he has him close his eyes. he then states "you will feel a pressure around here" then he presses on the mans foot with hisown. "and when that pressure releases, take a sip" simply, he just releases pressure on the guys foot when he takes a drink. does the same thing for the woman. then he brings him out of trace, having a foggy or non existant recollection of what happened. solved!

  • its not foot pressure

i dont know what it is but you can see one clearly in messiah(messiah is one of the video he had)

he make a men fall without touch or any specific statement, it seems like there is nowhere teaching this for now

in youtube, you can watch the punch by derren brown, you will know what i mean

    but messiah is better

  • its fucking simple: theres always an akward feeling that you have to do something, and its usually the same for people who know each other well.

  • this has nothing to do with foot pressure...what a load of rubbish..this is NLP in its strongest form if not how could the girl get the same effect she is not sat anywhere near the target!!

  • I'm an NLP Mater Prac and that was foot pressure mate. He would have touched the guys foot when the girl drank. It was still an impressive demo of a rapid hypnotic induction though.

  • i agree guy! people start to get so into derren's tricks that they assume they are all caused by nlp, when things like this are the most basic induction and suggestion tricks

  • No, teachme, you're completely wrong. In Derren Brown's book, "Tricks of the Mind" that HE wrote, he says himself that he presses his foot against the guy's foot everytime someone takes a drink. So...

  • Yup, that's exactly why he slid his chair right next to the guy. Otherwise there would be no need for him to be that close, because apparently it works for the girl that's like 5 feet away from him.

  • yea he wrote dis other book called "Pure Effect" da speacial edition were he does da sme wif da LIFT trick.

  • @lulu1night4ever Is it really that difficult to spell out your words correctly?

  • @LittleJ922

eh it's da internet not a job so i get careless sumtimes

  • would yawning be considered rapport when we consider the myth of "the contagiousness of yawning"

  • He will never cease to amaze me

  • Psychic powers? NO

  • The power of suggestion! Woo!

  • if he was pressing the guys foot then why did the guy not make a comment or realise?

  • cptnsmelly is right he explains that in his book tricks of the mind i think

And i strongly recomment to keep this secrets hidden, because this is the kinda stuff most magic tricks are made of. Posting this as a general answer on youtube is not a good thing to do. People who realy wanna know can pm other people.

  • no he didnt....i read that book twice....

  • maybe it was in pure effect then. im pretty sure i read it somewhere speciffically for this video, but this trick is pretty widely known allready

  • He plainly states many times that he is not a magician...so saying "magic" is redundant, it's not magic it's illusion.

  • snobish students

  • yeah he is just pressing his foot why do you think he moves to the guy at 0:20

  • "come back to me" that was a bit gay

  • probably because he is gay

  • well he actually is gay, lol. So he probably wouldn't mind that you said that.

    :-)

  • It's called unconscious-rapport, almost the exact feeling when you read someones mind. If you have never experienced it, you have absolutely no comprehension to it's truth. This is a fantastic tool to learn, your actual-intuition will be boosted, even your confidence within yourself(self-esteem), will be jacked up. ONCE U LEARN IT, KEEP PRACTICING, by the end of the year(2009), YOU WILL definitely have some major skill along with an assertive confidence. Enjoy!

  • It sure looks like rapport. Though this trick has NOTHING to do with rapport whatsoever.

This Trick is really simpel. Rapport works. It is powerfull, but this trick has _nothing_ to do with it.

  • It's all about the foot pressure. This is classic magician misdirection.

  • well, the trick did involce SOME rapport, i mean even the most basic induction involves some level of rapport. its just one of the fundementals of hypnosis :)

  • You sure mislead the reader of this comment like derren misleads his audience :D

  • Isn't this fake ? The way he shakes his head at the end of the "trance" seems to me as fake. He is trying to impress. An anyway any remains of the trance aren't really something you want to shake away. It's a pleasant state. I don't think you can have that energy a few seconds after getting back to normal.

  • No, it's not fake. What Derren did in the beginning was a rapid induction using a "handshake interrupt" pattern break. When he says "you'll feel a pressure, and when you feel it release, you will take a drink ..." etc. His foot was on the guys foot, and he released it when the woman took a drink. Derren himself explained how it was done.

  • Where did he explain that? In one of his shows??? Or in a book.??

  • He's stepping on the guys foot to create the "pressure" it's nothing to do with his hand. It's still a cool trick though.

  • Its amazing the power of words and video can have. Derren successfully plays to the camera in a real way. If he cant successfully play to the camera then he wont play it... and you wont see it. Think about the power words and video have .

  • Damn, that girl with the dark hair is so incredibly pretty. Look at her cute face ^^

  • @hermanessences " SHALLOW HAL WANTS A GAL".

THERE, NOW SHES UGLY AGAIN =)

  • he readily admits to being a fake, and usually pulls it on the people hes duped at the end of his gig.

  • Pressure on his foot lol~

  • As much as I love Derren Brown, and this video, I believe he has intention was to mock a bit at "NLP Rapport". This kind of trick has been done for ever with "stooges", and if Derren feel like thats what he needs to do to have a great piece, then so be it. But I think its funny how he really makes alot of people think that everything he does is somehow completely NLP based. Love the the Video though!

  • "AMPLIFY"

Just before putting him to sleep, the command to sleep was therefore AMPLIFIED.

He is treading on his foot and then releasing, no doubt about it.

  • Then how do you keep the person from telling the rest of the table later on?

  • he was hypnotized...so he didn't remember

  • Obviously you're not a hypnotist.

There's no such thing as complete amnesia from hypnosis. You will know everything that has happened; Trust me I am a hypnotist.

I've done this effect many times, it is what us mentalists call instant stooging.

  • But I guess it takes him a while to realize what you did...so you have some time to run away, or to focus his attention away :P

  • This is a technique we call dual reality.

He's perceiving a different reality because his eyes are closed so he doesn't realize the context. Later on he does but since he knows he's in on it he would keep his mouth shut

  • I'm glad you said it. I was about to spill the beans.

  • Possibly:

When he says "feel PRESSURE there" with emphasis on pressure - his eyes are closed making his senses skewed and derren lightly steps on his toes under the table?

    ...maybe?

  • Derren actually says: "you'll notice a pressure around here", but he doesn't mention where. He justs vaguely waves his hand.

  • The pressure is on the foot.

  • I think he is looking from a very experienced point of view and would seem verey clever/go unnoticed to the untrained eye. like being able to play stairway and saying its a peice of cake.... look here =) i think you'll agree.

  • Yeh i had a ebook with the same explanation.

  • your smart..

  • I agree, i mean, this has no nlp basis, and it is television..

  • I think its to do with derrens breath. he takes a sharp breath just before drinking, and in the beginning he mentions rapport and breathing etc and then does it again when he is explaining to th guy that he will take a drink at the same time. if you notice most people will take a breath before drinkig, especially alcohol, i could be wrong, i think the "pressure" is a focus point for hypnosis, and the breath being the suggestions.

  • I had the same idea, would be very audacious, but it does look like a dual reality effect.

  • for someone who "knows" a lot about linguistics you sure can't recognize irony

  • I knew a guy who was Judgmental, It caused him to miss out on allot of happy feelings. as much as being "right" satisfied him he still needed point-out the flaws he saw in others. strange because he was smart enough. maybe he felt inadequate in some part of his being. only he know for sure.

  • hauhauahauah

    gotta love a metaphor

  • I would not look at my hand and close my eyes.

  • Trust me, if you sat at a table with this guy, and he got up and put your hand to your face asking you to close your eyes, you would listen, especially knowing in advance that your about to have a world class hypnotist mentalist stopping by, you'd be open to it in advance.

  • If I was to gain form the experience, I would certainly play-along. I would not do it for the cameras so he could showcase his power.

I am a trained hypnotist and even before that I knew not to believe anything that comes after the words, "trust me"

it's a statement that instantly puts the issue of the person trustworthiness to the forefront. everything after it is seen through this question,

"should I really trust this person."

trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong on this one.

  • are you really?

you would then recognize Erickson`s handshake induction that darren brown did.

trust me, you should actually know something about a subject before saying you are "trained" at it...

  • are you really?

you would then recognize Erickson`s handshake induction that darren brown did.

trust me, you should actually know something about a subject before saying you are "trained" at it...

  • i did notice the handshake. you'd be doing yourself a service not to assume what i do and don't know, presumption is not a good look on you. and again with the "trust me" just like the other guy. Why make an issue out of your own trustworthiness when it wasn't in question? everything you say is now reframed through the notion of wether or not you should be trusted. and I think you meant trained in, not at.

  • When he says that they feel a pressure lifting, he is pressing on their foot with his foot and releasing, ties this to taking a drink, so when he lifts his glass, or the lady does so, a press with his foot on the guys foot in trance elicits the drinking response, looks good.

  • how crazy, and it is even crazier I figured it out...yeah...

  • god i hate privlaged twats like those at the table

  • I'm almost positive Derren tapped the guy on the foot for the glass suggestion in the beginning.

  • this technqiue is called rapid induction where you make someone focus on two things at once and then remove both things as you tell them to focus themselves on sleeping. when you remove both things it confuses the sub concious putting you in a sugestable state of mind and 90% of the time, depending on the person they will follow a command in this state. another example is asking them to push down on your hand and close their eyes, as they do you move your hand out the way & asking them to sleep

  • Actually, I believe any inductions in this effect are purely aesthetic al processes and just make the effect look better.

  • They are according to his book!

  • This is to raw!

I want to post, to comment on this video, because this comment is a proper reaction for a shocking but true truth in our postmodern time. !You too want to post comments...

  • omfg..

  • lol, just having fun here .. :)

  • As lockyleaf stated, it is a trick; I wouldn't call it 'fake' at any level though.

I hate to reveal stuff here but I believe this is simply dual-reality.

  • good call.

  • when its the girls turn to take a drink a guy takes a drink first but the other guy didn't move, and when the girl takes a drink the guy does. how come?

  • lol derren browns gay so i don think he fancys anyone alough he does lay the charm on pretty thick with any female that employs him! he explains in his books

  • the hand to the face is a famous milton Ericson hypnosis pattern interupt technique it does work whether it is Darren really utilizing the subconcious of his participants or actors is left up to the imagination. I notice he uses down swing patterns of speech yet another pattern technique.

  • On 00:10 we see a great example of embedded commands, where he says "and even do things like *take a drink* at exactly the same time, a moment later the girl in the white top grabs her glass and takes a drink. Listen for the pause and slight inflection downward in his voice...

  • I think Derren fancies Abby, the one who also took a sip with Alex while he was hypnotised. Listen to the commentary on the DVD. :-)

  • Oh he had his eyes closed the whole time. This is a very old trick. Funny though.

    Derren is a great Showman.

  • ROFLAMO if he was blind fold maybe but he just doesnt have his eye closed all the way

  • Notice he pulls his chair really close to the guy that does the rapport whuile being in an hipnotic state. I think that he gives him a sign with hsi foot or his leg due to the fact that he needs to be close to the person.

  • Right gustavonarez that is possible... the fact he says you will "FEEL" when it happens, could have given him the sugjection of a foottap or something of feel would make him raise the glass and drink. IM not sure but htat could be.

  • It can both be real or faked... that's why one should think of both ideas as both are possible in this video. I only mention that it can be real as I have done things like this. It's part of rapport.. the connection.. soul mates.. vibing with a person.. being in tune.. thinking a like.

  • If i had my eyes closed with a glass of wine i think after that certain amount of time i would take a sip, because it seems like a good time to do so, a bit of waiting, but not too much etc. Obviously they've build up the rapport and so would know whether this was true for the other person or not, subconsciously.

  • Of course the clever bit if Derren's handshake/pattern-break/confusion "trance" induction trick. Over time he's built up a bit of an image as someone impressive, so I think people are willing to buckle under simple exploitation because of his notoriety. The "hypnosis" created by it though is nonetheless impressive.

  • notice that derren brown choose a guy right next to him. so he was in foot range.

  • That's a very astute observation Aaron. You should focus all your mental energy on taking the thumb out of your ass.

  • hot girl...

  • Very cute trick with the feet.

But who the hell has dinner parties like that? Upper-class ponces......

  • yea they are one of them is a duke or a count or something its part of another clip

  • Foot pressure - in his book

  • I knew it was a trick or actors, but theenigmaproject made it all clear :D I even tried it with my mother (without knowing of the foot) and she didn't know what pressure and just drank, lol

  • The pressure Derren talks of his simply derren pushing on the mans foot when he wants him to drink. This is nothing to do with rapport which altough it exists certainly not to this exaggerated extent. Perhaps the "hypnotised" man because he is very suggestable believes the pressure is not derrens foot but a sort of non-physical pressure as that is what he was told to expect...so he feels pressure on his foot and in this HIGHLY suggestible state confuses it for another sort of pressure....

  • yeah i can understand that now - i couldn't figure out how it worked with his eyes closed, but now you point that out, that's a clever observation
