I'm just not sure why he would say "Ten Ten" because if he is following the way Japanese counting works then he would of said "Two Ten" for twenty and "Three Ten" for thirty.

I love the way Japanese counting works. I am starting to learn Japanese and it just makes sense. None of this twenty, thirty, forty, fifty crap. You want twenty-two in Japanese you say the Japanese word two and then the word ten and then two again. Two-Ten-Two = Ni-Jyu-Ni

It is easy to see why he is confused. The japanese have a VERY easy counting system. Once you can count to twenty you can count to 99 and then once you learn what 100 is you can go from there as well.
