Man, I never realized how sloppy LA's Defense was! Look at the video and just study the defense on LA's part. It seems like everytime Jordan had the ball, the defense would try to guard their man or their opponent and they would be forced to change to zone! Everytime Jordan drove the ball in there were at least 3 or 4 defenders at the post, and everytime he took a shot they just backed off of him? That's just sloppy defense and they were punished by the king!
hey hoopsencyclopedia man u are just so fucking amazing uploading all these videos of michael jordan and cut into parts these are exactly what ive been looking for thank you soo much i would fucking pay you for these videos man thank you
its obvious that jordan was the master of his craft. great jumper, great post, amazing moves, nasty improves...and AMAZING LOCK DOWN DEFENSE. CASE CLOSED.
Is this the same game where MJ purposely bobbled the ball out of bounds on a breakway? I always wonder why he fumbled it out on that play ... almost like he didn't want to dunk for some reason. You could see Horace Grant laughing in the background.
this is the game but it wasnt on purpose; the ball just slipped out of his hands as he went up. he lost it a few dribbles before he went up and never fully recovered it properly so it slipped out of his hands
By far the fastest basketball player ever people compare him to Lebron and AI when In fact they have no clue on how quicker MJ was. Not only did MJ dominate but he did it in an era that was usually dominated by centers/forwards compared to this generation which is favored towards perimeter players. He also competed against the greatest level of talent in NBA history (mid 80s-early 90's).
Jordan was the fastest player ever his first nine years in the league. He is after all human and slowed down when he unretired. But MJ was always quickest where it counts: his head. IN 1993 as his world famous leaping ability began to fade he was still quick with his first step and I have great memories of him leaving Dan Majerle and the Suns standing around like statues. Jordan adjusted his game to become a dominant jump shooter that still could drive on occasion.
You have to remember that YouTube has created a generation of vapid douchebags who can only enjoy a basketball video if there's a hoarse-voiced rapper screaming explitives over a casio-made background.
Lebron's not really close in dunking skills. With a full court run and jumping off one foot, he does get ridiculously high. Jordan's hands, quickness with the ball, and ability to pick the ball up off the dribble and palm it made him better at posterizing and dunking quickly. You see how Lebron has to gather himself and swing his momentum around to get up so high. Jordan could do that standing on two legs with no running start
It's funny that people always say he was a great mid range shooter. If you look at a lot of these jumpers he was just inside the 3 pt line. I think Jordan was one of those exceptional talents that could shoot from anywhere and was good at it...he just had great form and had the legs to get up on those shots.
mr. hoop, wuz up. still think ur mj uploadin all deez vidz yo'. anyhoo i've added almost every vid u have i'm sure i've viewed this one the most. the song sets the right mood for reflection of perfection.
I fully agree with you Jordan in 88 shot 53.8 ave 35. Jordan in 1987 had more blocks then 10 centers in the league. The NBA today is made for you to score. Read a article by Joe Dumars called the death of Defense. Jordan would be impossible to guard.
Jordan was himself first of his kind of player that why hes the best ever. He took a little something from Dr J and David Thompson but made it his own. Kobe copies MJ and isn't even close. Anyways the truth always comes out at the end Kobe fans are in denial. Most of them are young and never even watched MJ played. MJ ave 37.1 and shot 54 percent in 1987 thats just crazy. Hey kobe fans learn the game understand the rules and then we can talk. This nba is a joke.
I agree fully about the NBA now vs then & MJ vs Kobe...Gotta correct you tho-MJ hit well over 50% from 1988-92, but in 87 he only 49% while scoring 37+ppg, which is still a better% than what Kobe hits, and at such a high PPG for anyone especially a guard, still completely insane...Also, MJ twice recorded seasons of 200+steals and 100+ blocked shots...Kobe hasnt sniffed that.
Kobe shows off & dicks around from behind the 3pt line too much...The whole league does. MJ didnt chuck 6 3s per game.
jordan most certainly didnt copy anyone he changed the game as we know it,he was way beyond his time, and yeah kobe came in the league b4 mike but remember mike was also winning championships at 35,36,37 so please don't bring up age o yeah at 40 he averaged 22 6 and 6 thats not bad at 40 yrs old and playing on the wizards..mj greatest of all time period
OMG, pause at 5:25, he got his shoulder at backboard level, its hard to see but his head is definitely at rim level there, THATS SO FUCKIN SICK!!!, PLUS HE JUMPED FROM DOTTED LINE WITH A MONSTER DOUBLE CLUTCH
Kobe fans are in denial. All the evidence is in their face but they see something else. Tell them that 1 + 1 = 2 and they'll still try to find a reason that it's not. lolz
MJ is a level above anyone else before or after him. And yes, that means media-hyped Kobe and LeBron James. And it's said how the NBA made rules easier on offensive players (no hand checks). MJ is the greatest of all time, look at his behind the back layups and unmatched jumping ability. And BTW, who would you rather have the ball in the clutch, Kobe or MJ?
probably never but it will take atleast 15 years for any player comes along at top all mj records that means scoring titles, playoff highs, averageing 37ppg, having
MJ never ever copied anyone Dr.J or Thommson. 100% original right from UNC days like Magic & Bird. Just cuz of free throw dunks, don't assume he idolized DrJ. MJ even did cradle dunk in game vs Maryland that Nance copied in 1984 Slam Dunk contest. Kobe is NOT Smoother than MJ, Magic or Bird at all ever. MJ has liquidy speed in his game from 1987-1992. Majic & Bird were leagues ahead of Kobe in running & reading the game's momentum. Kobe lacks everything even in his prime to play in golden era.
for ppl comparing jordan to lebron and lebron to jordan all i can say is that MJ played in college Lebron did not so we should give Lebron more time to see just how good he can be
that's one way to look at it, but if you're going to come into the league that early, be prepared to take the criticism and comparison, whether one went to college or not. A player in the NBA is a player in the NBA.
that last dunk-PLAIN SICK. He jumped from dotted line and landed out of bounds!!! Plus, if you pause it his head is level to the rim on first shot of him. Jordan is KING
Great observations. What I love about the last dunk is how he catches the ball on the way down and flips it to the refs. Total control, total body control all the time. Everyone else is too busy dunking the ball to care about where it's going to land or getting back in the game. No screaming, no flexing - have fun with the refs and just run back to play defense. If you check out my 58 pts against the Nets, he pats the ref on the butt after the dunk.
yo' hoops-had to watch this one again it's been like a year-love the song. j's style can not be understood by mankind. it's in the walk, the blink of the eye, breathing even. the take off and the land. the posing of the left hand at all times. the run the bounce...damn i sound gay. one and only.
I think you didn't get what I was trying to say; I'm not taking anything away from Jordan's accomplishments, he's the greatest. And you're being unfair with LeBron, the kid is 23! And no, last year's Cavs werent't mediocre, they were weak as hell. LeBron took them to the Finals all by himself. Give him a Pippen and a Rodman type of player and you'd see what this guy can achieve.
if u want people to give credit to Pippen n Rodman, u should give credit to the cavaliers. last time i checked, one player can't score all points or guard the opposing team. plus lebron ain't the only one that gets double team. have u seen Ilgauskas get double team n don't hate cuz he is a good player n changes shots by the opposing team. remember Gibson making lots of 3's, hughes n the entire team playing defense cuz last year, they were one of the best defensive teams in the league.
waffelirontmacsplat, if I compared LeBron to Chuck, it's because they do have the same kind of impact on their teams and yes, in my opinion, the same kind of game: they are not extraordinary ballhandlers, great rebounders, and they attack the rim fiercely. Secondly, you say Jordan won with players some coaches might consider second tier...and that's cool with me if you're talking about Bill Cartwright or Will Perdue. But Pippen? Rodman? Grant? Harper?
jordan and lebron are nothing alike! i can jordan's game in kobe, but lebron? im not saying which is better. all im saying is their shots, their moves, their dunks, and the position they play are all different.
Would he have won 6 rings if Len Bias/ Reggie Lewis hadn't passed away? If Sabonis hadn't injured himself (imagine a team with Sabonis, Drexler, Porter and Kersey at their best!)? Or if Ralph Sampson's bad knees hadn't put a premature end to his career? Personally, I don't think he'd have won 6 rings, but of course we'll knever know.
lebron is playing in a eastern conference that is far weaker than theo ne jordan played in and dominated in...jordan won his last three finals with players who were older than him in rodman and a starting five counting himself who were well over the age of thirty.
It's unfair to compare LeBron to MJ. First of all, LeBron is more like a better version of Barkley in my opinion. Then, some people seem to forget how good Mike's supporting cast was throughout the years: Pip, Rodman, Grant, Kukoc...the first two are Hall of Famers guys. LeBron took a weak, weak team to the Finals at the tender age of 22! Don't get me wrong, MJ is the best there ever was and there ever will be, but you gotta admit this: he did benefit from favorable circumstances to win 6 rings.
a better version of barkley cocksucker bballrehab charles barkley shot a 54 percent field goal for his career...lebron isn't even better than. him all lebron has is his passing game but barkley could do that too. plus he took his team to the finals and actual made a series of it more than i can say for lebron who is a great talent but no a legend yet.
and as far as lebron taking a weak cavs team to the finals. lets understand something the detroit team lebron faced was garbage compared to the one jordan had to face who kept him out of the finals for two years straight.
not to mention jordan won his first three titles with most of his starting five not being hall of famers unlike the guys he played against such as larry bird and magic johnson. so don't try to discredit jordan and act like he had this unbelievable team to work with. jordan won with what some coaches might consider second tier players.
¿Better version than Barkley? To compare him to Chuck is disrespect! 1st ask Lebron whom is 6´8 and 240 lbs to play Powerforward in THE PAINT against 6´9,6´10, 6´11 dudes and guard them aswell instead of against Small-Forward/Shooting Guards. Then ask him to average 14.6 rpg against these, ask him to block Ewings, Hakeems, Robinsons etc STRAIGHT UP (not from the back), ask him to actually shoot 50% FG, Barkley shot 54% for his career and reached the 58-60% mark XD. All this at a height of 6´4!
Barkley wasn't 6'4 he really was 6'6.I stood next to him coming out of TNT studios in Atlanta a couple of years ago.I'm 6'3 and he had me by a couple of inches.Nonetheless, he was a phenomenal player and a very underrated athlete.I remember him numerous time two-hand power dunking on 6'9,6'10, 7'0 ft dudes off the the vert after offensive rebounds.
Barcelona Olimpic measurments said 6´4 and 5/8 of a ft, He has currently said many times 6`4 and 3/4 around there, teamate Danny Ainge whom i 6´4 himself has always joked about his height saying "You aint taller than me, You aint 6´6", Kenny Smith sai on TNT, "The only player with that height that could do that at 6`4, if that...", Jordan said on interview Charles is between 6´4 and 6´5. Charles might look 6`6 becaus he has a wide strong football like body and probaly uses thick crested shoes..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think offensivley hte ONLY thing that separates Jordan from Kobe is that Jordan had enourmous hands and could hang in the air a little lnger because of that giving him better touch on his shots off the dribble drive, thus he is a more accurate scorer, other than than their game are virtually similar although i would say Jordan's game was more fundamental sounds as he mastered the mid range jumper but Kpobe's game is more smooth! Jordan is the greatest ad Kobe is second but Kobe is the best now
And of course, offense is just half of the game. The physicality is part of MJ's complete package which becomes rather large as you magnify each facet of the game. That's what's difficult to replicate. I would say MJ is the most finesse at the same time since he had time to polish his mastery. For today's top players, KB is closest in finesse because he has done a well job of studying him for almost 30 years. But the hands, legs and body you can't exceed beyond your DNA unfortunately.
ah moron chiladin did you forget that in jordan's prime he was shooting 54 percent from the field while scoring over 30 points a game. only one player other than jordan has done that and it was wilt chamberlain. jordan is a smarter perimeter player than kobe a better descision maker than kobe along with what hoops explained about jordan as well. kobe is to inconsistent to be in jordan's company.
Kobe CANNOT match Magic or Bird in skills, fluidity, smoothness in the game forget MJ. MJ created his own highlight reel every night & more. Kobe is a cheap immitator who will struggle to average 24 ppg in his prime had he got the defence that MJ confronted. Jordan Rules would have finished his career to injury in his prime guaranteed. He is a fake who grew up watching MJ videos like you and me. There is NO SIMILARITY between Kobe & MJ except the turnaround fadeaway Jumper thanks to NO HANDCHECK
Now let's talk basketball.First of all of this is useless rhetoric.lol.I never siad Kobe was better than Jordan. So what is your point.I emphasized the similarities in there games! I siad Kobe is smoother and Jordan is fundamentally more sound. The difference between me you and people like Bob Costas is i actually play the sport and very well.I know Jordan was better but not by far.And Kobe has only been in his prime for the last year. He's 29!
Yea but even Kobe says that age 30 is quickly becoming the new 35. They come in earlier and they are going to start exiting earlier than before. Kobe is already slowing down. He was almost rendered useless in the second half of the finals games. He's running out of gas while stacking on the mileage.
How is Kobe fake and he has his own legacy? That's like saying Jordan is a fake Dr.J! Jordan even siad he patterned his game after David Thompson. So does that make him a fake or imitator also? Yo need to write a book and get paid cus you're too much of a fan of Jordan. You put him on God's level as if he has no peers!I'm a fan you're a fanatic.I'm from Chicago.I seen Mike play live.So you can't tell me nothing about him.lol.
Kobes absolutely ZERO originality. He even had his tongue wagging when going for Tomohawk dunks. sign of cheap immitator. Shaq owns Kobe's legacy. He doesn't even has same legacy as Tim Dunkin at this point who is no way under Robinsons shadow. Also, no need to fadeaway. MJ only invented unmatchable fadeaway because of hand check lock down that opponent always had on him & 2nd man running to him from blind side. With Zone defense & NO handcheck today. scoring is joke. Kobe should immitate Lebrn
MJ patterned his game after David Thompson. U can say that since he idolized Thompson all his life. But if u've watched Thompson, u'll easily diferenciate the 2. I'll give u this though, in college u could see MJ makin some Thompson dunks, and one or other move. Thats natural since MJ followed Thompson so closely. But once he entered the NBA his game just exploded to a whole new level, and his style was completely different ever since. MJ didnt even had any of Thompson's mannerisms.
Michael made a name for himself through his constant chase for perfection. Ever since his debut in 85 u can see a dramatic change on his shooting form, he brought the baggy shorts to the NBA, not merely for style purposes but to cover his college shorts he always weared under the Bulls shorts (supersticions). Bottom line MJ was always himself, natural, it just happened that everything the guy did was an instant hit. U can hardly see any similarities between him and his idols (Thompson and Dr J)
But in Kobe's case its blatant.. He comes to the NBA wagging his tongue, shaved head, doin jumpman dunks, his shotform is straight out of MJ's book (something MJ took years to develop and Kobe simply took it, good for him), he even kicks after every jump, to complete the obsession he even hires MJ's speech coach..I mean if that doesnt tell u something.
@chiladin I would have to disagree. To me MJ is a better post up player, better midrange shooter, and most importantly moves better without the ball. The two things that really separate MJ from Kobe offensively (aside from the efficiency), is MJ's proficiency in the post and in moving without the ball. And I also disagree that Kobe is more smooth. Kenny Smith makes it very clear that he thinks that MJ is the most fundamentally sound player he's ever seen.
im amazed MJ could score so much on my cuz. marks so damn tall he could just lift his hand and slap away anything. it takes true skill to core that much on him and MJ has my respect
Hoops, I cant thank you enough...I soaked up everything I had access to in New England on MJ, but I was only a young kid in the 80s and missed out on most of the best years of him as an individual...I didnt really appreciate MJ at all until Gm1 vs portland, a point in time by which no one could ever deny his nastiness...
I'm telling you, that last dunk is amazing. He takes off from the hash mark on the side and as you can see on the replay still almost hits his head on the rim. He could have sailed another 5-7 feet and still dunked that, he just had to dunk it then because he was flying past the basket. The way he leans forward in the air slightly is also cool.
Kobe isn't a better 3 point shooter either. Their 3 point percentages are nearly a tie in the regular season and Jordan's is better in the playoffs and whips Kobe's ass in the Finals.
man jordan's moves are so smooth, effortless and beautiful. you can argue kobe may be the better scorer(he's definitely better at shooting)...but as far as aesthetics goes, jordan wins hands down. jordan's athleticism is way out of kobe's league. watch kobe's reverse layups...a lot of them he could barely pull off.
Correction: Kobe's a bettter 3-point shooter. Jordan mastered and perfected the mid-range shot. Kobe misses them regularly but Jordan always seemed to knock them down, half of the time he'd fade away and still hit it.
Jordan was much faster and a better dribbler, almost as tho he was part little guy in bigger body, with a 7fters handsize...Had a better 1st step by a mile than Kobe also..
MJ's ballhandling was brilliant & probably as good as the best point guard playing in those days. Massive palm size & extra large fingers unabled him to palm, cuff & all that stuff & also enabled him to get away with carrying that only he knew in heavy traffic. MJ's best ball handling was between '86-'92. Those 6 yrs was like GOD put on #23 jersey & Air Jordans & massacring everyone on the floor.
WTF are you smoking. Kobe is a better shooter??? For God sake man, Kobe for a single season hasn't shot over 45% & he is 30 now. MJ for career shot 50%. No comparion. MJ owns Kobe any given day & any given time in shot selection & overall scoring.
Kobe has too many 3pts attempts, it seems like if he has no way to make a close shot, he choose 3 pts. And many long range shots he tries to make, those all low down his FG%.
MJ is much smarter player, he pass then fake defender, and try to find a open or easy shot.
And MJ is much better in low post, his low post skill is unbeatable.
By the way young MJ was too fast and his hang time was too long, so he could do so many incredible shots whithout low down FG%.
Wow, where'd you hear that, Hoops? I know he was still measured as having an average leap of 28-32" on his jumpers in the '93 season (they mentioned it during the Finals, but I forget the exact number), but 36-38" is insane. I know I've seen him get up that high (at least) on some J's, but I didn't think that was the average. Wow.
A friend of mine in college said he knew a scout who quoted that number. I couldn't believe it myself so I made sure he backed it up with details. It made sense though since in the 80s, he was basically so high he was shooting line drives into the bucket.
Thanks for putting these highlights of Mark Eaton Hoops, its really incredible. Together, we cna keep the dream alive. Mark was an incredible center iwth an unsurpassed defensive and offensive prowess. Eaton is the GOAT!!!!
at first i thought you were dissing my family but then i read the full comment. so i congratulate you because you just came up with the most confusing compliment i have ever heard
Jordan and Kobe are great players. Jordan by far is the better player and Kobe has a chance to go down as a top 5 player from his own era. Jordan should be compared to Shaq and Duncan who are the only leaders with multi-championships. Read my channel description. I guarantee you that it teaches you more about the game and the history of MJ and the history of Kobe.
The dunk at the 5:24 mark, he takes off from the hash line on the side of the lane, which is the same distance as the inside of the circle in the middle of the lane. However, as anyone who has taken geometry knows, the distance he has to travel to the basket is greater, because if we imagine the basket at the center of a circle with a certain radius, and then trace that radius into the lane, it would be 1/3-1/2 way between the circle hash mark and the FT line.
It's amazing that a player could have such a great all around contribution to his team's effort, and have it filed under the loss column. That just shows you what a great, competitive era it was. Every loss Jordan had was a warrior's loss. He almost never lost a game by more than 10 points, they all went down to the horn.
it was so disgusting the loss they had at LA, they should have won it easily but they choked, MJ had that that beautiful J to tie it but they lost it to Divac fts..
Are you kidding me? He deserved every MVP starting in 1987 through 1993, and if his team were more successful his rookie year, he would have even deserved it then.
He didn't win more because the sportwriters got sick of voting for him.
That is very true. Everyone knew Jordan was the true MVP every year, but they wanted to pass it around ala Barkley in 1993, and Karl Malone in 1997. Jordan won it in '96 and '98. His '97 season was the same, and he even won a title, but they wanted someone else to get it for once.
i was doing some research, 1990 should have been another MVP season for MJ, the Bulls won 55 games, and MJ had great numbers as usual, but instead Magic got the MVP just cause his stronger team won 63 games that year. to me MJ was robbed. he could have 6 MVP's now
I agree almost completely. I think LeBron has the POTENTIAL to be great. He needs to work a lot at it. But we have seen the GOAT. There will never be another to detrone him.
In looking at these Jordan highlights, I think people need to really understand how good the players were back then. Jordan did all those spectacular things but he shot over 50% and he didn't bail out his opponent by taking terrible shots. LeBron and Kobe need to find their own game and quit relying upon hype. Wade gets the refs to give him everything. There are no great players today because the game won't allow the guys to just play ball. The refs control the game now.
This video makes me sad in a way. It makes me miss Jordan. It seems that Michael was god's gift to basketball for all of us to enjoy. There will never be another player like him.
Beautiful. Poor Eaton, who else could turn elite shotblockers into defensive liabilities? I love watching the shotblockers (whether Ewing, Mourning, Robinson...etc.) go to stuff Jordan and watching him fly by so quickly that he is literally a couple yards from the spot they're reaching for when he shoots.
This is beautifully put together and really demonstrates the beauty, the grace, the power, the aristry, the indomitable will of MJ. I have still never seen an athlete like young Jordan. Out of this world....brings tears to my eyes, quite literally.
damn he had some sick dunks in the utah game, alot of those dunks arent even shown on mj's highlight reals, they always repeat the same dunks of his but i love these hidden gems
Omg. At 4:33 that was just sick. I believe Mark Eaton was 7"4' and MJ just dunk on him like he wasnt NOTHING. JESUS CHRIST. WoW. MJ the best ever. I mean MJ was in his face. He didnt drive from the 3 point line or free throw line. He was right by Eaton and dunk on him. Nice video. Keep the truth coming.
Man!!This is only a chunk of all MJs great moves but this one alone makes all my hair stand up!! never seen a two handed facial dunk on a giant! it was no suprise for Eaton! specially he can see MJ coming towards him from the half court. THE GREATEST EVER PLAYED THE GAME! can only be seen in the video now! Thanks for the video.
It is amazing to see these MJ sequences. He consistently played the game at a different speed than anyone else. He is so distinctively different than everyone else around it. You have see an entire game of him to appreciate how much he controlled every aspect of it.
thanks a lot for this awesome video

Only the most complete player and best dunker in the league since Michael Jordan
highflyer1985 2 years ago
Lebron's not really close in dunking skills. With a full court run and jumping off one foot, he does get ridiculously high. Jordan's hands, quickness with the ball, and ability to pick the ball up off the dribble and palm it made him better at posterizing and dunking quickly. You see how Lebron has to gather himself and swing his momentum around to get up so high. Jordan could do that standing on two legs with no running start
pheeeel17 2 years ago 4
It's funny that people always say he was a great mid range shooter. If you look at a lot of these jumpers he was just inside the 3 pt line. I think Jordan was one of those exceptional talents that could shoot from anywhere and was good at it...he just had great form and had the legs to get up on those shots.

I fully agree with you Jordan in 88 shot 53.8 ave 35. Jordan in 1987 had more blocks then 10 centers in the league. The NBA today is made for you to score. Read a article by Joe Dumars called the death of Defense. Jordan would be impossible to guard.
MJisKingKobesuckss 3 years ago 5
Jordan was himself first of his kind of player that why hes the best ever. He took a little something from Dr J and David Thompson but made it his own. Kobe copies MJ and isn't even close. Anyways the truth always comes out at the end Kobe fans are in denial. Most of them are young and never even watched MJ played. MJ ave 37.1 and shot 54 percent in 1987 thats just crazy. Hey kobe fans learn the game understand the rules and then we can talk. This nba is a joke.
MJisKingKobesuckss 3 years ago 4

MJ is a level above anyone else before or after him. And yes, that means media-hyped Kobe and LeBron James. And it's said how the NBA made rules easier on offensive players (no hand checks). MJ is the greatest of all time, look at his behind the back layups and unmatched jumping ability. And BTW, who would you rather have the ball in the clutch, Kobe or MJ?
airjordan4ever 3 years ago 2
i would take both mj and kobe for the clutch shot.

Kobe lacks everything even in his prime to play in golden era.

that's one way to look at it, but if you're going to come into the league that early, be prepared to take the criticism and comparison, whether one went to college or not. A player in the NBA is a player in the NBA.

that last dunk-PLAIN SICK. He jumped from dotted line and landed out of bounds!!! Plus, if you pause it his head is level to the rim on first shot of him. Jordan is KING
billyvanbvb 3 years ago 2
Great observations. What I love about the last dunk is how he catches the ball on the way down and flips it to the refs. Total control, total body control all the time. Everyone else is too busy dunking the ball to care about where it's going to land or getting back in the game. No screaming, no flexing - have fun with the refs and just run back to play defense. If you check out my 58 pts against the Nets, he pats the ref on the butt after the dunk.

jjl51999 3 years ago
I think you didn't get what I was trying to say; I'm not taking anything away from Jordan's accomplishments, he's the greatest. And you're being unfair with LeBron, the kid is 23! And no, last year's Cavs werent't mediocre, they were weak as hell. LeBron took them to the Finals all by himself. Give him a Pippen and a Rodman type of player and you'd see what this guy can achieve.
Bballrehab 3 years ago
if u want people to give credit to Pippen n Rodman, u should give credit to the cavaliers. last time i checked, one player can't score all points or guard the opposing team. plus lebron ain't the only one that gets double team. have u seen Ilgauskas get double team n don't hate cuz he is a good player n changes shots by the opposing team. remember Gibson making lots of 3's, hughes n the entire team playing defense cuz last year, they were one of the best defensive teams in the league.
mj23ao 3 years ago
waffelirontmacsplat, if I compared LeBron to Chuck, it's because they do have the same kind of impact on their teams and yes, in my opinion, the same kind of game: they are not extraordinary ballhandlers, great rebounders, and they attack the rim fiercely. Secondly, you say Jordan won with players some coaches might consider second tier...and that's cool with me if you're talking about Bill Cartwright or Will Perdue. But Pippen? Rodman? Grant? Harper?
Bballrehab 3 years ago
jordan and lebron are nothing alike! i can jordan's game in kobe, but lebron? im not saying which is better. all im saying is their shots, their moves, their dunks, and the position they play are all different.
airbbll08 3 years ago
Would he have won 6 rings if Len Bias/ Reggie Lewis hadn't passed away? If Sabonis hadn't injured himself (imagine a team with Sabonis, Drexler, Porter and Kersey at their best!)? Or if Ralph Sampson's bad knees hadn't put a premature end to his career? Personally, I don't think he'd have won 6 rings, but of course we'll knever know.
Bballrehab 3 years ago
lebron is playing in a eastern conference that is far weaker than theo ne jordan played in and dominated in...jordan won his last three finals with players who were older than him in rodman and a starting five counting himself who were well over the age of thirty.
waffelirontmacsplat 3 years ago
It's unfair to compare LeBron to MJ. First of all, LeBron is more like a better version of Barkley in my opinion. Then, some people seem to forget how good Mike's supporting cast was throughout the years: Pip, Rodman, Grant, Kukoc...the first two are Hall of Famers guys. LeBron took a weak, weak team to the Finals at the tender age of 22! Don't get me wrong, MJ is the best there ever was and there ever will be, but you gotta admit this: he did benefit from favorable circumstances to win 6 rings.
Bballrehab 3 years ago
weak weak team?, i dont think so, about mediocre team i prefer, and the east is suck so much compare Jordan era
accepttrue 3 years ago
a better version of barkley cocksucker bballrehab charles barkley shot a 54 percent field goal for his career...lebron isn't even better than. him all lebron has is his passing game but barkley could do that too. plus he took his team to the finals and actual made a series of it more than i can say for lebron who is a great talent but no a legend yet.
waffelirontmacsplat 3 years ago
and as far as lebron taking a weak cavs team to the finals. lets understand something the detroit team lebron faced was garbage compared to the one jordan had to face who kept him out of the finals for two years straight.
waffelirontmacsplat 3 years ago 2
not to mention jordan won his first three titles with most of his starting five not being hall of famers unlike the guys he played against such as larry bird and magic johnson. so don't try to discredit jordan and act like he had this unbelievable team to work with. jordan won with what some coaches might consider second tier players.
waffelirontmacsplat 3 years ago 2
AceroySangre 3 years ago
Barkley wasn't 6'4 he really was 6'6.I stood next to him coming out of TNT studios in Atlanta a couple of years ago.I'm 6'3 and he had me by a couple of inches.Nonetheless, he was a phenomenal player and a very underrated athlete.I remember him numerous time two-hand power dunking on 6'9,6'10, 7'0 ft dudes off the the vert after offensive rebounds.
chiladin 3 years ago
Barcelona Olimpic measurments said 6´4 and 5/8 of a ft, He has currently said many times 6`4 and 3/4 around there, teamate Danny Ainge whom i 6´4 himself has always joked about his height saying "You aint taller than me, You aint 6´6", Kenny Smith sai on TNT, "The only player with that height that could do that at 6`4, if that...", Jordan said on interview Charles is between 6´4 and 6´5. Charles might look 6`6 becaus he has a wide strong football like body and probaly uses thick crested shoes..

Jordan is the greatest ad Kobe is second but Kobe is the best now
chiladin 3 years ago
And of course, offense is just half of the game. The physicality is part of MJ's complete package which becomes rather large as you magnify each facet of the game. That's what's difficult to replicate. I would say MJ is the most finesse at the same time since he had time to polish his mastery. For today's top players, KB is closest in finesse because he has done a well job of studying him for almost 30 years. But the hands, legs and body you can't exceed beyond your DNA unfortunately.
hoopsencyclopedia 3 years ago
ah moron chiladin did you forget that in jordan's prime he was shooting 54 percent from the field while scoring over 30 points a game. only one player other than jordan has done that and it was wilt chamberlain. jordan is a smarter perimeter player than kobe a better descision maker than kobe along with what hoops explained about jordan as well. kobe is to inconsistent to be in jordan's company.
waffelirontmacsplat 3 years ago
Kobe CANNOT match Magic or Bird in skills, fluidity, smoothness in the game forget MJ. MJ created his own highlight reel every night & more. Kobe is a cheap immitator who will struggle to average 24 ppg in his prime had he got the defence that MJ confronted. Jordan Rules would have finished his career to injury in his prime guaranteed. He is a fake who grew up watching MJ videos like you and me. There is NO SIMILARITY between Kobe & MJ except the turnaround fadeaway Jumper thanks to NO HANDCHECK
mnkhan2020 3 years ago
Now let's talk basketball.First of all of this is useless rhetoric.lol.I never siad Kobe was better than Jordan. So what is your point.I emphasized the similarities in there games! I siad Kobe is smoother and Jordan is fundamentally more sound. The difference between me you and people like Bob Costas is i actually play the sport and very well.I know Jordan was better but not by far.And Kobe has only been in his prime for the last year. He's 29!
chiladin 3 years ago
Yea but even Kobe says that age 30 is quickly becoming the new 35. They come in earlier and they are going to start exiting earlier than before. Kobe is already slowing down. He was almost rendered useless in the second half of the finals games. He's running out of gas while stacking on the mileage.
JayT98 3 years ago
How is Kobe fake and he has his own legacy? That's like saying Jordan is a fake Dr.J! Jordan even siad he patterned his game after David Thompson. So does that make him a fake or imitator also? Yo need to write a book and get paid cus you're too much of a fan of Jordan. You put him on God's level as if he has no peers!I'm a fan you're a fanatic.I'm from Chicago.I seen Mike play live.So you can't tell me nothing about him.lol.
chiladin 3 years ago
Kobes absolutely ZERO originality. He even had his tongue wagging when going for Tomohawk dunks. sign of cheap immitator. Shaq owns Kobe's legacy. He doesn't even has same legacy as Tim Dunkin at this point who is no way under Robinsons shadow. Also, no need to fadeaway. MJ only invented unmatchable fadeaway because of hand check lock down that opponent always had on him & 2nd man running to him from blind side. With Zone defense & NO handcheck today. scoring is joke. Kobe should immitate Lebrn
mnkhan2020 3 years ago
MJ patterned his game after David Thompson. U can say that since he idolized Thompson all his life. But if u've watched Thompson, u'll easily diferenciate the 2. I'll give u this though, in college u could see MJ makin some Thompson dunks, and one or other move. Thats natural since MJ followed Thompson so closely. But once he entered the NBA his game just exploded to a whole new level, and his style was completely different ever since. MJ didnt even had any of Thompson's mannerisms.
blast2blast 3 years ago
Michael made a name for himself through his constant chase for perfection. Ever since his debut in 85 u can see a dramatic change on his shooting form, he brought the baggy shorts to the NBA, not merely for style purposes but to cover his college shorts he always weared under the Bulls shorts (supersticions). Bottom line MJ was always himself, natural, it just happened that everything the guy did was an instant hit. U can hardly see any similarities between him and his idols (Thompson and Dr J)
blast2blast 3 years ago
But in Kobe's case its blatant.. He comes to the NBA wagging his tongue, shaved head, doin jumpman dunks, his shotform is straight out of MJ's book (something MJ took years to develop and Kobe simply took it, good for him), he even kicks after every jump, to complete the obsession he even hires MJ's speech coach..I mean if that doesnt tell u something.
blast2blast 3 years ago 3
ur perfectly right
dpistons149 3 years ago
@chiladin I would have to disagree. To me MJ is a better post up player, better midrange shooter, and most importantly moves better without the ball. The two things that really separate MJ from Kobe offensively (aside from the efficiency), is MJ's proficiency in the post and in moving without the ball. And I also disagree that Kobe is more smooth. Kenny Smith makes it very clear that he thinks that MJ is the most fundamentally sound player he's ever seen.

dp233332 4 years ago
I'm telling you, that last dunk is amazing. He takes off from the hash mark on the side and as you can see on the replay still almost hits his head on the rim. He could have sailed another 5-7 feet and still dunked that, he just had to dunk it then because he was flying past the basket. The way he leans forward in the air slightly is also cool.

Kobe isn't a better 3 point shooter either. Their 3 point percentages are nearly a tie in the regular season and Jordan's is better in the playoffs and whips Kobe's ass in the Finals.
Hypebusta 4 years ago 2
man jordan's moves are so smooth, effortless and beautiful. you can argue kobe may be the better scorer(he's definitely better at shooting)...but as far as aesthetics goes, jordan wins hands down. jordan's athleticism is way out of kobe's league. watch kobe's reverse layups...a lot of them he could barely pull off.

Correction: Kobe's a bettter 3-point shooter. Jordan mastered and perfected the mid-range shot. Kobe misses them regularly but Jordan always seemed to knock them down, half of the time he'd fade away and still hit it.

i disagree about the ball handling tho
deyonce 4 years ago
MJ's ballhandling was brilliant & probably as good as the best point guard playing in those days. Massive palm size & extra large fingers unabled him to palm, cuff & all that stuff & also enabled him to get away with carrying that only he knew in heavy traffic. MJ's best ball handling was between '86-'92. Those 6 yrs was like GOD put on #23 jersey & Air Jordans & massacring everyone on the floor.
mnkhan2020 3 years ago
WTF are you smoking. Kobe is a better shooter??? For God sake man, Kobe for a single season hasn't shot over 45% & he is 30 now. MJ for career shot 50%. No comparion. MJ owns Kobe any given day & any given time in shot selection & overall scoring.
mnkhan2020 3 years ago 16

Golfanatyc 3 years ago 3
Kobe has too many 3pts attempts, it seems like if he has no way to make a close shot, he choose 3 pts. And many long range shots he tries to make, those all low down his FG%.
MJ is much smarter player, he pass then fake defender, and try to find a open or easy shot.
And MJ is much better in low post, his low post skill is unbeatable.
By the way young MJ was too fast and his hang time was too long, so he could do so many incredible shots whithout low down FG%.

GOod observation. Scouting reports had him averaging 36-38 inches on his jumpers in the 80s.
hoopsencyclopedia 4 years ago
Wow, where'd you hear that, Hoops? I know he was still measured as having an average leap of 28-32" on his jumpers in the '93 season (they mentioned it during the Finals, but I forget the exact number), but 36-38" is insane. I know I've seen him get up that high (at least) on some J's, but I didn't think that was the average. Wow.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
A friend of mine in college said he knew a scout who quoted that number. I couldn't believe it myself so I made sure he backed it up with details. It made sense though since in the 80s, he was basically so high he was shooting line drives into the bucket.

And yet despite this distance, look on the replay at where his head/arms are when he dunks the ball. He does it SO EASILY.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
The dunk at the 5:24 mark, he takes off from the hash line on the side of the lane, which is the same distance as the inside of the circle in the middle of the lane. However, as anyone who has taken geometry knows, the distance he has to travel to the basket is greater, because if we imagine the basket at the center of a circle with a certain radius, and then trace that radius into the lane, it would be 1/3-1/2 way between the circle hash mark and the FT line.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
It's amazing that a player could have such a great all around contribution to his team's effort, and have it filed under the loss column. That just shows you what a great, competitive era it was. Every loss Jordan had was a warrior's loss. He almost never lost a game by more than 10 points, they all went down to the horn.

Are you kidding me? He deserved every MVP starting in 1987 through 1993, and if his team were more successful his rookie year, he would have even deserved it then.
He didn't win more because the sportwriters got sick of voting for him.
sfhguibnbhq 4 years ago
That is very true. Everyone knew Jordan was the true MVP every year, but they wanted to pass it around ala Barkley in 1993, and Karl Malone in 1997. Jordan won it in '96 and '98. His '97 season was the same, and he even won a title, but they wanted someone else to get it for once.
pheeeel17 4 years ago
i was doing some research, 1990 should have been another MVP season for MJ, the Bulls won 55 games, and MJ had great numbers as usual, but instead Magic got the MVP just cause his stronger team won 63 games that year. to me MJ was robbed. he could have 6 MVP's now

sfhguibnbhq 4 years ago
In looking at these Jordan highlights, I think people need to really understand how good the players were back then. Jordan did all those spectacular things but he shot over 50% and he didn't bail out his opponent by taking terrible shots. LeBron and Kobe need to find their own game and quit relying upon hype. Wade gets the refs to give him everything. There are no great players today because the game won't allow the guys to just play ball. The refs control the game now.

Beautiful. Poor Eaton, who else could turn elite shotblockers into defensive liabilities? I love watching the shotblockers (whether Ewing, Mourning, Robinson...etc.) go to stuff Jordan and watching him fly by so quickly that he is literally a couple yards from the spot they're reaching for when he shoots.

damn he had some sick dunks in the utah game, alot of those dunks arent even shown on mj's highlight reals, they always repeat the same dunks of his but i love these hidden gems
