5499. It's Jan 2012 and they're down from around 10K to 8K average new. Hard to find one used for under 6500. us and this was 2008 release price? Nothing new since ! What is Nikon doing? Where's the improvements? What's up Nikon! Time to talk to us a little !
@TheAFROMUSIC i believe our difference regarding what is semi professional and pro is smaller now. d7000 is perhaps all we all need. check out... freedslr . c0m change 0 with o and get an opportunity to bring home a Brand New Nikon D7000
To say that the ISO range on the D3x is a joke is an ignorant statement. The D3x is a high resolution studio camera used under controlled studio lighting conditions not unlike medium format but also it's an amazing landscape camera. The D3x will resolve fine detail far beyond the capabilities of the D3. 100% crops from the D3x raw image files are truly amazing. However, the noise level between the D3 and the D3x in practical terms, is much closer than you may realize.
What do you expect from smaller pixels? The D3x has twice as many pixels on the same sensor area than the D3 and D700. Of course the noise level is going to be higher. Also, if you really need low noise, then go for a 6 megapixel Nikon D70. Not only it has large pixels, but it also has a CCD sensor, which is superior to CMOS when it comes to low noise performance.
Hello NIKON I have been shooting your flag ship SLR since 1974 F2,F3,F4,F5,D1,D1x,D2X and D3. You owe me a camera that I can afford or at least an upgrade on my D3 which looks exactly like the D3x. This is a camera that can win back the nikon users you lost to Canon and even some of their users. Then you sell more lenses and flashes. Try not to be soooo greedy, the sensor is a CMOS not a CCD.
At $8000 one might as well jump to $10,000 and own the Leica S2.
Leica S2? Are you serious? Leica is lucky to still be on the planet and is surviving on their name. Their cameras don't offer the professional photographer the same robust features that can be had with a D3, D3x, D700, !dsIII, 5D2, etc..
first things first, the D3x is put against the EOS 1Ds...the A900/5D is in a different place altogether.
secondly, competition is good..it gets us newer/better equipment so i don't see any harm in that..
lastly, do check up the ACTUAL accounts and commercial reports (not speculation/rumors) on Nikon's performance in the past years..nothing short of excellent!
EOS numbers are doing well too but i can't say anything for Sony coz i've yet to see any solid figures which show their current state.
Because no one wants to print anything they shoot. If you knew something about photography you might not have such a close minded outlook.
So, are you a professional photographer? Didn't think so. Think about printing at 300dpi and you might figure out why someone might need more than 10mp.
Nikon will certainly loose marketshare to Sony, this 8K camera has basically the same SONY manufactured sensor with the exception of a few details and yet the Alpha 900 is 3K
no it does not. the die my be the same, all the rest that makes the actual picture is different. 14 bit output, gapless microlenses, inline amps - all that is not in the sony. also this sensor is iso 100 native, not 200 like the sony's. and beside this: the electronics makes the picture and bionz sucks, jsut compare older cams by nikon, sony and pentax that actually use the same sensor.
The Bionz sucks? Who would buy an 8K camera to shoot JPG's?
Nikon is late to the high rez FF game, this camera will bomb, both Canon and Sony now have 20+MP FF cameras at or below 3K, Nikon does not. The days of the 8K FF camera are over. Valwit, so you're saying that the Nikon will have more than twice the Raw quality than Sony to justify 4K more? Oh wait it has better weathersealing...LOL, Those are some expensive rubber seals. Nikon will be 3rd within 5 years, Sony is coming on strong
people who shoot 1000+ pics at one session. they dont have the time to have some fun with raw. they also wont change gear to use a sony. sony is by far not that good yet. YET.
i wont argue with the 8k is to much, because it is. but D3x is nor to compare with 5Dmk2 or A900. A D700x/800 with the 24 mpix sensor will be. D3x is the same league as th 1Dsmk3 is, but the price is to high for year 2008. anyway, the picture quality will prove how much the cam is really worth.
Canon could charge 8K for the MK3 because it was the ONLY high rez FF Camera, since the new 5D has been out the MK3's sales have tanked, the market has changed and Nikon screwed the pooch, studio photogs do NOT need ultra weathersealing and they DO shoot in Raw. The D700 isn't even announced yet, it is rumor, a new pro could buy an A900 and 3 Zeiss lenses for 8K. Nikon thought they could re-badge some Sony parts, add weatherseals and put their name and ask 8K for it, they are mistaken
there's no super weather sealing, it's the same like on a D3. so no higher costs for that. and no one here denies 8k is way to much.
you may shoot in raw in a studio, but what for? you control the light, the cam settings, in 90% of the shootings you dont need to use raw, as all you'll do with the raw later can be done by the camera while you shoot. and it just saves time. same on location, except super fancy shoots in unusual (for studios) conditions. that's the 10%.
you can get the A900 and even 10 Zeiss lenses, but the quiality these lenses give you will be wasted by the crappy body. what you don't count in is the change in the workflow as you strat to use a different system. that also consumes time, and is just a PITA. it's just not practicable for these whom the D3x is aimed at. all the rest will wait for the d700x. this camera HAS to come if Nikon wants to compete the A900 and 5D. as simple as that :)
Thats a pretty big statement that the A900 is total garbage, but the Nikon is gold. I've never heard anyone claim that the A900 is a crappy body...LOL.. People change systems all the time and actually Sony has the easiest to use interface that is the most intuitive. You keep talking of the D700X, that isn't even an announced product..
It's just my opinion, after a tested the A900 for myself and saw the quality it delivers. That's what counts. If you're happy with it and your clients like it - good for you.
And who's changing systems all the time? Pros? Or just amateurs and enthusiasts? Pros change very unlikely as they usually have more then just one body, more then 3 lenses and generally the whole equipement is worth way more then just the 8k for a single D3x body.
The rumor is that once Sony gets to 15% marketshare, which it's getting very close to doing, it will stop selling DSLR sensors to Nikon. Not only does Sony make the sensors, it also produces most of the chips and LCD screen on those Nikons, they also contract Sony to manufacture the Xpeed processors. Nikon is showing its arrogance again and Nikon cannot get into a price war with Sony or Canon, Nikon is too dependent on others for parts and technology, they'll join Olympus within 5 years.
and what will happen if nikon stops delivering their steppers to sony? ho will they produce? apparently nikon is leasing a whole fab from sony, so the relationship between sony and nikon is much more complicated then one could think.
£5500!!!! Considering they added nothing but a sensor to an already mass produced D3 chassis for which the economies of scale are well and truly in full effect that is extortionate! That sensor cannot cost £2500 to make!

The ISO range of 100-1600 is a joke for this type of camera costing nearly 5000 GBP. Nikon D3x is not worth that price !!!
I decided to buy Nikon D700 and I am 100% happy with that body. Low light performance is amazing.

Uhhh....it's not made for low light nor speed. That's the point of it not overriding the D3 completely, purpose.

why in the hell is there all that "loud" background noise in the background. Very distracting and frankly stupid.
Now to the $8000.00 nikon. Keep it Nikon I am ashamed of you. I wish I was a canon shooter.

It was loud because of the other 50 journo's clammering to see the camera! =:O)
