Nvidia has to come up with a completely new architecture for their next gen gpu instead of recycling the 8800 series and adding more transistors then renaming it 9800 and GTX 200.
AMD should have the advantage with DX11, as tessilation is a requirement and they have been using tessilation for a few generations now. Nvidia, on the other hand, has refused to adopt a tessilator.

Bugger, I hit the submit button too quickly. Anyways, it's similar to how you would render textures using advanced filtering techniques such as(bi/tri linear and anisotropic) with the distant objects being rendered less accurately for performances sake as you wouldn't see it anyway.
It's a tech demo. The video doesn't do it justice. It demonstrates the hardware tessellation (smooths round surfaces making arches and the like more realistic) capabilities of the ATi HD 4800 series of graphics cards. Again though, the video doesn't really show the details very well. It is a catchy tune but after playing around with it for a while it gets on your nerves. To repetitive. ;)
why are AMDs oldertech demo's more impressive than the new ones :/
