Im looking to buy either a wireless system or digital recorder. Can you tell me why are you using the wireless receiver into the recorder instead of just using the wireless receiver directly to the camera?
@andrewford80 Ah I see. thanks. I'm actually trying to mic several people (10) at once with lapel/lav mics and wondered if I needed some kind of equipment that could plug in each mic.
@Custom09 Sounds like you need a mixer of some sort to bring all those channels in, mix accurately and then output to some kind of recorder. Be it direct to your camera or a sound recorder.
@andrewford80 That's it! Someone told me about an audio mixer before but I wasn't sure of how it works or if it output to a recorder. Thank you ! Now I know what equipment I need to get. :)
that was great very handy, what that lens sitting on your 5D it's huge, 85mm? if so that's some expensive glass....oh well I can dream. thanks for a great tutorial
aditional tip : you guys can connect a mini jack cable from the output of the headphones to the input of the mark2 5d and get the aoudio in the file of the video
Wow sounds like there are a lot of haters on here. Its funny, if the DSLR was such a piece of lego crap, they wouldn't be using it on huge network shows like HOUSE, SNL, CSI just to name a few. If those Producers and DP's are satisfied with the quality and willing to do the "work arounds" in order to use it then its good enough for me, and any of you other guys on here, cause I'm sure none of you are directors or producers on ANY major networks. I love my set up!
@kdwantsasnack: You have to realize that an FS100 is gunna run you a min of $5k. A 5DmII, while limited, will run less than $3600 w/ a comparable lens & H4n. Not incl editing soft for both...
That's a HUGE difference in price for those people out there looking for a simple solution. Plus 5DmII can double as a still camera.
I would like a RED camera, but that might not be in the budget.
You work with what you can afford.
If you are good enough, your skills should shine no matter what you use.
The post production solution has become a snap because of Singular Software PluralEyes which supports all major post production software!! No more synching issues!!! :)
Oh My Gawd... if this was a real news situation, by the time you finish setting up your mics, turn on your recorder, put everything together and start shooting, the story would be over! Same goes for post production...you have to transcode, then sync up your audio tracks? Takes too long for news. Use a real video camera...turn on power, ready to shoot instantly! In editing, plug in card, then edit. Simple as that.
awesome video... can you please tell me what is the proper hot shoe attachment called to connect the Zoom to the camera hot shoe? been looking for that kinda attachment for some time now for my zoom... any ideas where i can purchase that from?
Hello there! Can you give me the list of the audio gear that you have in this video? I saw a zoomh4n and a wireless seinheisser receiver & mic but I want to make sure the right model etc. I am gonna be working in a company and they want me to do their commercials (with audio). I'd appreciate it a lot if you respond to this! Thank you!
thank you so much, I was going to buy Final Cut Pro X just for the audio sync features then export all my footage out and put it into FInal Cut 7 this saves a lot more time.
Use Pluraleyes software to automatically sync the on camera low quality sound with the high quality off camera recording from your recorder. Pluraleyes software works with Adobe Premier or Final Cut. This software can perfectly sync your sound. Why would you still need Timecode?
What do you do for TC (Time Code)? I use a similar ENG system for our TV show, but I haven't found a good solution to make the clips ready for transcribing with Time Code. Any suggestions?

Do I need a receiver? I thought the recorder was all that was needed. What is the name of the receiver and how is it useful?
Custom09 2 weeks ago
@Custom09 Only if you want to use a wireless mic. Otherwise you just run the cable from the mic straight in to the recorder.

Hi,
your presentation is the most professional I ever seen - Thanks!
That's why I believe you can help me out with my problem:
I just bought the Sennheiser G2 and the problem is that the signal from the receiver goes only to the left channel.
My seller is trying to convince me that this is normal behavior, because Sennheiser is a MONO system.
Is it normal behavior? Or the receiver is defective?
The details of my setup are here:
... /watch?v=Ks8t_3_zSzs&feature=youtu.be
Please answer!

Are the settings on your recorder accurate? I mean...are these the audio recording settings that you would recommend for best audio and file size?

Best field recording tips I've seen so far. Is the on camera audio recorded with the hand held mic or the on camera mic?
