  • ur stang weighs 2800lbs only ? isn´t 2800lbs the stock weight for a 65´ mustang with the little 4.6L V8 ?

    it should weigh around 3400lbs with a 408stroker due to the 351w block

  • Yes I am sure about the weight. the 289 (4.7L) weighs 475lbs. The 351W weighs 530lbs and that is before you take into consideration that my 351 has aluminum heads intake water pump and drive pulleys. Also my car has an aluminum cased T5 trans instead of the cast iron 4speed that these cars came with. So I am not sure where you see a 600lb eights difference?

  • @stang129 I´ve just heared the 351w is not light at all so I thought the weight difference would be much higher compared to the stock 4.6

    I was going to purchase a complete 408stroker but when I heared it´s "much heavier" than my stock 302 I thought it would kill the power to weight ratio at the end

    that´s the reason why I´ve asked you if you are sure about the weight ..... if you are actually sure about the weight I´ll also put a 408w stroker into my "fox body"

  • @stang129 Damn dude you have a clean ass Mustang, my buddy has an original A code 64 1/2 gt with a 347 stroker and his brother has a '65 inline 6 swapped to a 302 with a t5 as well....both are clean but the '64 1/2 is kind of beat up... runs clean though lol

  • @3O2MuStAnG Yeah I'm doing the same conversion for my 65 fastback and its not even 75 lbs difference, I think more like 60. But my block is a 1994 roller motor, don't think that makes a difference though. My 65 has an 8" rear and T-5 5spd though so no huge burn outs or anything like that for me until I upgrade the rest of the drivetrain haha

  • I own a '05 PT Cruiser and My dad has a '64 1/2 Mustang. Driven both. The Pt has quick acceleration from a dead stop, but the Mustang is a lot faster.

  • thats funny my daily driver is a 05 PT GT HO, and thats my 65 mustang. Yes the PT is quick, mines making about 250hp. But the mustang is way way faster. my mustang weighs 2800lbs, making near 500hp, has disc brakes and walks away from my PT like its going backwards....just saying. But the PT is a lot of fun!

  • i got a pt cruise gt. and a 66 mustang. w a 289. both are fast. but accelaration.(meaning when turbo hits) it beats the mustang. consider this. mustang is all motor,heavy as hell, stage 2 on it. plus all drums. meaning when its comes to breaking.. im taking my time.lol just incase.

  • People that own pt cruisers know exactly how fast they are. i got a dreamcruiser series 4 with over 240hp, and i raced a cummins turbo diesel. we tied! all you people that are hatin', just shut the hell up.

  • Its because cars like the pt cruiser put the chrysler company under. They tried so hard to convince people that the car was cool when it wasnt. Not only that it was never advanced like the mustang has been over time.  Its funny what people think is cool.

  • turbocruiser-- what have you done to your pt to get that kind of power? my 04 touring ed. turbo has the mopar stage 1 kit, k&n filter, mopar bov and stock exhaust without the muffler. what else do you reccomend for decent power output? i think my next purchase is going to be a manual boost controller...

  • im using a SCAT stroker kit. i bought it through the shop that built my motor. I have 620 rate one inch lowering springs in the front of mine and i now have 5 1/2 leaf springs in the back with heavy duty shackles and shelby style traction bars. you really need to do the rear suspension because it will just wheel hop and light the tires up. hope this helps you, feel free to ask any questions

    the right answer is this: It's a PT thing. some people just don't understand the "sleeper" principle. I have a PT GT and an '89 voyager turbo. it's great to see the looks on people's faces when we open them up! Keep Cruisin'!

    we have our 65 mustang estimated at 400hp @ 2900lbs with what could be T5 manual 5spd trans. thats 7.65lbs/hp...sweet!

    Acceleration G force should be more double that of the PT baring gear ratios.

  • So then how would I stack up agains the stang with my pt that makes 429.2whp & 413ft.lbs tq at 3190lbs with 4 speed auto? BTW, unless it's a turbo lite which came in the non GT model that was rated at 185hp then your numbers are wrong because the GTs came with 215whp and the GT HO came with 230 :)

  • Its just estimates that stang could be producing 500Hp or as little as 400 HP

    If you got a cruiser that puts out 429Hp that would be a damn good race then it would come down to drivers and finding optimum gear ratios.

    I guess I have to ask what would possess someone to spend that much money on a PT...Whats the thinking behind that?

  • The cost of the car was low, I bought it used with 185 miles on it (so basically new) and I spent less than 1500 on everything that's helped me make power. I built my own turbo kit and fabricated everything possible so that I didn't have to spend triple of what I did to purchase aftermarket. The turbo kit I built for $900 would have cost $3k from a company.

  • Not bad Thats impressive work... You obviously have some skills when it comes to modifying engines. Just align your skills with market demand (which I seriously doubt is PTs)and you could make some decent cash.
