  • what is the name of the persian traditional song that this is based on?

  • @arabviolin

...Majnoun I guess!...do not know which area of Iran...any clues from our viewers?

  • it is a very old turkish song with Balkan origin (possibly Macedonian), to my knowledge... Majnoon (Majnoun) has been sung much later by Maryam Chemirani and it was wonderful to hear from Chemirani Ensemble as well as this greek version, too... An example for the turkish version can be found at /watch?v=3v5dmtbGNIQ ... cheers...

  • @SuperMassiveHead hahahahahahah maybe in an alternative dimension hahah

  • @BEYADEHVATAN no, in a very realistic dimension, mate. Greek people, Iranian people, turkish people live together since centuries in the same geographical area and they absorb and take from each other... Apart from artificially caused troubles, all those 3 nations (and many others) have very similar cultural points, including music...

  • @SuperMassiveHead Yes my friend and this proces is called Persianization : Persianization or Persianisation is a sociological process of cultural change in which something non-Persian becomes Persianate. It is a specific form of cultural assimilation that often includes linguistic assimilation. The term applies not only to cultures, but also to individuals, as they acclimate to the Persian culture. Iran not only cradle of civilization but also cradle of culture..especially music. look up Ziryab

  • @SuperMassiveHead its amazing how u think Im Greek I listen to this song every weekend but this song translation in Greek talks about the Prince Majnoun in Persia. 'songs of war in the dessert they echo, the Assasins(hashishim were persian assasins that kicked ass in the crusades, the word assasin in french and come from hashishim they used to have a smoke check out Hassan I Sabbah) ride the spread the death. then sais 'in the depths of Asia with sword and with

  • @SuperMassiveHead Hashish they tell stories from another age'' and then ''lost travellers within the myths, they say the saw the Old Man of the Mountain''. thats how the a warlord was called in the crusades from the westerners, He was Iranian Shia and he kicked ass. We Love Persia in Greece do not listen to Hollywood bastards and young kids in the internet. cheers

  • majnoun in arabic mean moron lol

  • fuzuli wrote leila and majnoun :D heh(turkish)

  • S U P E R!!! KRISTI YOU'VE GOT TO GO ON !!!

  • This song is beautiful masha'Allah! I am a southern Cypriot by the way.

Does anyone know the name given to the high pitched sound (almost a scream) you can hear throughout the song, especially right at the end? Its made by a female vocalist on this song.

  • I don't know...this song sounds very Greek to me...I suppose is because the cultural exchange between Greece and middle east regions...

  • ...if you mean the lyrics it is Greek ! The melody though is based on a Persian traditional - it is a remake-so I guess it would be a bit different to the original! .....and yes ...Greece & the Middle East- Persia- & as far as Afghanistan & India...have exchanged cultural & musical ideas manly through commerce but also during long wars & occupations...

Thanks for listening anyway! Hope you liked it!
