  • "Slide it up the shaft..." That's what she said! Just messin' though, awesome vid!

  • Here is a question then, why doesn't Garrett just make the fix and add the increased Depth/strength?

  • Everyone needs a couple of more inches...

  • I wound a 8mm or so radio core and it detects grains the Garrett end seemed a bit too big but good for coins. Would be great with vib and disc knob. Waiting for gen two or three with imaging screen. LOL!

  • Yes, the Garrett is really only good for coins and the like. I have been looking for a good gold nugget probe that is easy to carry and sensitive. I have tried a number of them on the market, and none of them really do the job. There are a few that work, but they are bulky and you really have to be just about touching the nugget for them to work. Garrett has not plans to make a new version that I have been able to learn about.

  • I asked Garrett a while back if they planned to put out another version with perhaps a sensitivity slide or a power boost on it. The answer was that no such plans were in the works. So, it looks like they are satisfied with the current version of the product.

  • @TheNuggetshooter

Heck if they had to improve it they would have to retool thier asian minimum wage tooling and work training. Should be US made the economy needs manufacturing not cheap offshore marked up stuff.

  • Glad it worked for you - it is just something to add to your bag of tricks. It is not needed all the time, but once in a while, a little added depth for the pin pointer helps find that target that is difficult to find or is just our of range of the Pro Pointer. As for the non believers, there are always some of those. I am sure some of them still believe the world is flat. :>)

  • @TheNuggetshooter

What the Hell, The World isn't flat? LOL

  • Hi, love the vid just tried it with my pinpointer and hay presto it works a treat it added 2" to the depth on some coins and 1" to others. To the non believers shame on you for not having a decent pinpointer. LOL cheers mate.

  • Thanks for the tip. Works well

  • Why would you want to increase the depth? I thought the purpose of the propointer is to pinpoint where the find is. Your metal detector is for depth.

  • So does this mean that you could actually use the pro pointer as a metal detector?

Nice find! How did you come up with this? Could you also apply this technique to a metal detector?

  • Your pin pointer is just that - a metal detector with a very tiny coil. It would be tedious to use it as a metal detector when searching a larger area, but I guess if you had nothing else it could be done.

  • To quote BlackHawkWindEnergy,

" Hand-held detectors are usually made of two coils wrapped at both ends of a cardboard tube, with an inductive metal rod inside the tube. The electronics sense variations between the two coils. So what you're doing is altering the shape of the field around the rear coil, which changes its relationship with the front coil."

This is exactly what makes it work.

  • Nice demo...why does it work ?

  • Glad you found it useful!

  • Yes, absolutely this works & I've personally confirmed it and verified my own results with the Garrett factory! They KNOW it works too! Thanks for the Vid.!

  • Frankly, I really do not care if people choose to believe it works or not. Many intelligent people have tried it and found it works. I am not going to waste my time doing another video for the few naysayers that want to find fault with it as I have better things to do. I am glad for those that found it useful. For those that want to find fault with it - feel free not to use the method. That just works to the advantage of those of us that are smart enough to us it to our benefit.

  • Excellent video, I use the technique often and it works great.

  • Does the (Turning on, sliding, backing away and then finally pinpointing) process need to be repeated each time you turn it on? Or could you do it once and electrical tape the nickel in place?

  • Glad you got it to work for you. It is something I use all the time, but at times the extra depth is handy to locate a target that is beyond the normal range of the Pro Pointer.

  • S.O.B!! It really works. I tried it my self and sure as ships goin in the water lol it works. Thank You

  • Is this just a trick? Do you move the nickel thats on the pointer up to get the deeper reading instead of the coin that your being measured!! You cant see your other hand so I just wonder. Either way you have me with my coins out and I'm about to try it. Thanks for trick.

  • Glad you like and confirmed my results - it is not always needed, but sometimes the extra depth comes in handy to find a target that is just beyond the range of the ProPointer without that extra boost.

  • quelqun pourait traduire la video ou faire la meme en francais svp

  • This 100% works just tried it out my mine! :)

  • fake ) please make the same video with showing WHOLE pinpointer with the second coin )

  • Just noticed BlackhawkWindEnergy said basically the same. Great video by the way.

  • It is possible that when Garrett comes out with a new and improved model that they will just program or tune the chip differently with no change to the actual hardware.

It is a simple upgrade for them. A friend of mine is looking at some reverse engineering to try to solve the pre set setting.

  • All that is actually happening is that the threshold is being changed. That is why you cannot leave the coin on the pointer. When you start the pinpointer it has a pre set threshold that is set in the chip but it is not set to it's max. So when you slide the coin down it is effecting this.If you left the coin on and started it would actually set the threshold to less. That is why you never want to turn the pointer on when it is close to metal or it will turn on with less threshold.

  • Glad you found it useful!

  • This DOES work and I use it in the field alot. GJ Nuggetshooter

  • I want my pinpointer to have additional depth capability because sometimes even though I have the target centered under my coil, it may be more than a couple of inches deep. By getting a couple of more inches out of my poinpointer, it assures me that when I dig or use my hole hog, that the coin/target is where I am going to dig. It is especially helpful in manicured yards or parks. And, when digging nuggets, they sometimes move around in the hole, so more depth is necessary to find it.

  • Why would you want your pinpointer to detect even deeper? It defeats the purpose. When I get a signal from a pinpointer, that coin better be right there. Not 4 more inches to go.

  • Glad it worked for you. I have showed this trick to a lot of people and it never fails to work or amaze them. I showed it to a dealer who sells the Pro-Pointer and he now shows people this trick when he is at metal detecting shows. The Pro-Pointer is a great pinpointer, this trick just makes it a bit better in my opinion.

  • cool it works i just did it with mine your instructions work great. thanks

  • Just tried this on my Pro Pointer and it works just like the video shows. Nice tip Nuggetshooter...

  • Very interesting. Must be skewing the internal inductive bridge out of balance to the user's advantage. I assume if the nickel is there before turning the unit on that it might not work. I assume the bridge is balanced at power up. Gonna have to try it.

  • Smart! Great information. I challenge mrxtramean to show us anything this intelligent!

  • thank you very much for doing the video, much appreciated.

  • Wow. How in heck did you figure that out. Great job man.

  • no seas cabron abre la toma que tal si estas acercando la moneda por el otro lado, deverias ser mas serio en tus presentaciones

  • Great tip...thanks!

  • Mr.Xtramean -- You comment is so ridiculous that they barely warrant a reply. I have nothing to gain by doing what you say. You are the tipical naysaying idiot that has no proof but wants to discredit someone elses efforts. Perhaps you decided not to be bored with the facts. I challenge you to contact Garrett who will confirm the contents of my video. Then report back the results if you dare. The scientific explanation is just as BlackhawkWindEnergy stated - did you not understand it?

  • @TheNuggetshooter actually he made a perfectly logical point based on an observation - he's right, you didn't show the other nickel and I would be perfectly comfortable asking you to do it again while showing both nickels to ease any doubt. obviously from the other comments, your trick is getting around and working, so this point is invalid anyway. but if you took his advice it would prevent other people who don't often read other comments from making the same misconception he did.

  • srose007 you do not need to use the same coin or metal as your target. You can use any coin or even a pulltab, a ring, or anything metal. But just be sure you do not push it too far. You do not want the pointer chirping when you lower it towards the target or you will get a false reading.

  • Notice how he didn't show you the other coin while he did the second test? For all you know, he was pushing the other coin closer to point to make you think that the distance was longer. I don't have a Pro Pointer, I want one, but until more people post saying it works, then I will have to trust it when I do it.

  • Great. Do you need to use the same metal/coin as your target? In other words, you used a nickel up the shaft to find the nickel, but would it also find a penny or would you need to put a penny up the shaft? Thanks!

  • That's awesome! I just made a video on the garrett pro-pointer but I didn't know that.

  • Great explanation BlackhawkWindEnergy - I could not have said it any better!

The electronics sense variations between the two coils. So what you're doing is altering the shape of the field around the rear coil, which changes its relationship with the front coil. Great job!

  • Why not just permanently fix a coin (or band of metal if that would work) on the unit itself. Do you think that would be a good idea?

  • @MickTwin First it has to be turned on and THEN the coin can be moved to position to increase sensitivity. The reason for this is when you turn it on, the pinpointer cancels every metal within its detecting range, so it would cancel the coin as well.

  • Great! Thanks...interesting.

  • Ok...i just tried it and it works.

  • um........could i see it without zooming :P

  • Good Trick!
