@rikrdolevy Well according to global security.net during the Gulf War the US alone shot down 4 Mig-21s, 8 Mig-23s,2 Mig-25s,5 Mig 29s,4 Su-17s, 2 Su-22s,and 2 Su-25s....all without losing a single plane to enemy aircraft. We shot down 2 Mig-23's in Libya, and 3 Mig 29s in the Kosovo war..again without any losses. I know these weren't piloted by Russians who might have at least shot down one of our planes. Vietnam definitely was an assfuck for America until we started using F-4Gs.

MY point is that in the wars we have fought and come up against Russian made planes, we have shot down squadrons of planes without losing a single one of ours.the Israelis,using U.S. planes have shot down a ton more.and the Iraqis had the MOST extensive and modern AA net that they could buy.. and were wiped out anyways
@spanish111japan So what, the F-4 is still used, too. It is well known that the Mig 21 is very difficult to fly. Indians even call them the flying coffins. In Nam, the Vietnamese had very few Mig 21's and they tried to avoid the F-4's, if possible. The US pilots in one exercise called Operation Linbacker fooled the Migs by pretending that they were Thuds and the Phantoms shot down such a large number that the migs were never a threat for the remainder of the war.
@spanish111japan Where did you get your info regarding Operation Linebacker because I know in the air war the statistics are overwhelmingly in the US's favor? Yes, the Mig was more maneuverable, but the Phantom was much more powerful. I believe the F-8 had the best kill/death ratio in Nam. The F-4's shortcomings were actually a blessing for the US. We came to the realization that a better superiority fighter was needed, and that resulted in the F-15.

@zelibober What did the F-15 copy? If you're like many other Russians &think the Mig 25 you're wrong. F-15 plans were made long before the US ever saw the Mig. In fact, the F-15 is a completly different fighter. The Mig 25 is an interceptor while the Eagle is an air-superioirty fighter. Both have different missions. + if you do some research you'll fine that there are even rumors that the USSR copied the A-5 Vigalante, the prototype twin tail version that was built for the USN.

Bzzt. Wrong. The F-15 was a response to the Mig-25 which was believed to be a super-fighter. It was breaking records left and right and still holds many. The design of the F-15 was born from the arrival of the MiG-25. The US didnt know that it was an interceptor initially. Its widely acknowledged. You should do your research.

Vietnamese with Russian advisors show up with MiG-15s and MiG-21s and woop ass on our F-4s because first run Phantoms had no guns and relied on AIM 7 Sparrow radar guided missile which was horrible,didn't lock and had 50/50 chance of not exploding when it did lock. U.S. adapts and creates F-4G which has internal cannon and can use the AIM 9 sidewinder which is heat seeking...game over.
@surfgodx I agree that the US was pretty stupid to not arm the F-4's w/ guns early on. That's one reason why the F-8 was so successful. Fortunately, the N. Vietnamese didn't have many Mig 21's. You're right about the Sparrow. It sometimes failed to lock on, often fell from the rail w/o motor igniting, failed to explode, etc. Sidewinders did better but they still had their own problems, too.
@asusucks It was arrogance...the HNIC decided that the days of dogfights were over and that our missiles would ensure total air superiority since the Russians literally had no active guided missiles of any kind.The kill to death ration pre F-4E was like 5:1 in favor of N Vietnam, after we released F-4E with cannon and Sidewinder went to like 11:1 in favor of the U.S....so even if the Sidewinder had issues it was superior to anything else in the air and the cannons gave us the chance to dogfight.
@surfgodx N. Vietnames start running out of experienced pilots due to attrition and quits sending sorties against the F-4s and tries to concentrate on F-105s. Operation Linebacker was based SOLEY on the F-105 and used F-4s as CAP screen to save them from MiGs

@Russia2010 Just curious, why do you think the worlds airlines including many russian carriers do not fly Tupulovs or Antonovs? The SU 35 is a beautiful airplane and highly capable however the F-35 is moving the air combat paradigm into a different direction. While not completely stealth capable it is very steallthy along with STOL/VTOL capability the F-35 will be capable of deploying throughout the theater of conflict without a base, while the SU-35 is dependent on a runway.

US pilots that have flown the Mig 21 laugh that the largest button on the aircraft is the red warning light signaling failure. The bird is hard to fly, has poor ergonomics, and a huge rear blind spot. About the only good thing about it is that it has great ability to slow down w/o stalling.
@sovietskies69 I know, but the Su still has no edge on the F-22. The Su you see in this vid is a demonstration aircraft without any external stores. Air demo planes have limited avionics, an optimal amount of fuel, and no external ordinace that can limit is manueverablity. The F-22's that you see at airshows perform with a full load of fuel (18000 lbs) and can perform those same manuevers weapons ready. Then you add in that the F-22 is stealth gives the Su no chance.

@rikrdolevy Well according to global security.net during the Gulf War the US alone shot down 4 Mig-21s, 8 Mig-23s,2 Mig-25s,5 Mig 29s,4 Su-17s, 2 Su-22s,and 2 Su-25s....all without losing a single plane to enemy aircraft. We shot down 2 Mig-23's in Libya, and 3 Mig 29s in the Kosovo war..again without any losses. I know these weren't piloted by Russians who might have at least shot down one of our planes. Vietnam definitely was an assfuck for America until we started using F-4Gs.

@Lorikf9 I I know we lost a F-117 to AA fire (the F-117 is called the Wobbly Goblin,it's a horribly unstable plane and has to fly straight to bomb even stationary targets). MY point is that in the wars we have fought and come up against Russian made planes, we have shot down squadrons of planes without losing a single one of ours.the Israelis,using U.S. planes have shot down a ton more.and the Iraqis had the MOST extensive and modern AA net that they could buy.. and were wiped out anyways

And even then, in Operation Rimon 20, Soviet pilots used their own MiG-21's to go against the Israeli's and still lost.

But still, the MiG-21 is far supperior than those. It is considered the best 2nd generation fighter. For a reason, it is still used.

@spanish111japan So what, the F-4 is still used, too. It is well known that the Mig 21 is very difficult to fly. Indians even call them the flying coffins. In Nam, the Vietnamese had very few Mig 21's and they tried to avoid the F-4's, if possible. The US pilots in one exercise called Operation Linbacker fooled the Migs by pretending that they were Thuds and the Phantoms shot down such a large number that the migs were never a threat for the remainder of the war.

Yes, the Mig was more maneuverable, but the Phantom was much more powerful. I believe the F-8 had the best kill/death ratio in Nam. The F-4's shortcomings were actually a blessing for the US. We came to the realization that a better superiority fighter was needed, and that resulted in the F-15.

@zelibober What did the F-15 copy? If you're like many other Russians &think the Mig 25 you're wrong. F-15 plans were made long before the US ever saw the Mig. In fact, the F-15 is a completly different fighter. The Mig 25 is an interceptor while the Eagle is an air-superioirty fighter. Both have different missions. + if you do some research you'll fine that there are even rumors that the USSR copied the A-5 Vigalante, the prototype twin tail version that was built for the USN.

Bzzt. Wrong. The F-15 was a response to the Mig-25 which was believed to be a super-fighter. It was breaking records left and right and still holds many. The design of the F-15 was born from the arrival of the MiG-25. The US didnt know that it was an interceptor initially. Its widely acknowledged. You should do your research.

@asusucks OK I hate to break into the love fest here but the time line went like this. N. Vietnamese with Russian advisors show up with MiG-15s and MiG-21s and woop ass on our F-4s because first run Phantoms had no guns and relied on AIM 7 Sparrow radar guided missile which was horrible,didn't lock and had 50/50 chance of not exploding when it did lock. U.S. adapts and creates F-4G which has internal cannon and can use the AIM 9 sidewinder which is heat seeking...game over.

@surfgodx I agree that the US was pretty stupid to not arm the F-4's w/ guns early on. That's one reason why the F-8 was so successful. Fortunately, the N. Vietnamese didn't have many Mig 21's. You're right about the Sparrow. It sometimes failed to lock on, often fell from the rail w/o motor igniting, failed to explode, etc. Sidewinders did better but they still had their own problems, too.

@asusucks It was arrogance...the HNIC decided that the days of dogfights were over and that our missiles would ensure total air superiority since the Russians literally had no active guided missiles of any kind.The kill to death ration pre F-4E was like 5:1 in favor of N Vietnam, after we released F-4E with cannon and Sidewinder went to like 11:1 in favor of the U.S....so even if the Sidewinder had issues it was superior to anything else in the air and the cannons gave us the chance to dogfight.

@Russia2010 Just curious, why do you think the worlds airlines including many russian carriers do not fly Tupulovs or Antonovs? The SU 35 is a beautiful airplane and highly capable however the F-35 is moving the air combat paradigm into a different direction. While not completely stealth capable it is very steallthy along with STOL/VTOL capability the F-35 will be capable of deploying throughout the theater of conflict without a base, while the SU-35 is dependent on a runway.

The site you link even brings up Russian AESA radar that still hasn't even been put into service. Meanwhile, the shitty PAK-FA is still having trouble getting its engines built to spec, has poor avionics, and isn't stealthy enough to be considered a 5th generation fighter. You're clueless.

@Russia2010 F-16 a copy of the Mig 21. HAHAHAHA. You're crazy. The F-16 kicks its ass in every way, from A2A, to A2G. US pilots that have flown the Mig 21 laugh that the largest button on the aircraft is the red warning light signaling failure. The bird is hard to fly, has poor ergonomics, and a huge rear blind spot. About the only good thing about it is that it has great ability to slow down w/o stalling.

@sovietskies69 I know, but the Su still has no edge on the F-22. The Su you see in this vid is a demonstration aircraft without any external stores. Air demo planes have limited avionics, an optimal amount of fuel, and no external ordinace that can limit is manueverablity. The F-22's that you see at airshows perform with a full load of fuel (18000 lbs) and can perform those same manuevers weapons ready. Then you add in that the F-22 is stealth gives the Su no chance.
