OH MY GOD !!! Thank you so much for the fabulous memories. I was laughing and tearing up at the same time. A good part of my life was spent in West View Park. Rode every ride the Dips, Whippet so many times, made out at boot hill, spent all my change at the pinball arcade and who could ever forget Dance Land. Many boys became men because of Dance Land. I'll never ever forget your hot pants girls. God bless all those who loved me or hated me and hope everyone’s been blessed with a good life.
I live near Pittsburgh, and it's a shame that this park didn't survive into my era. Would've loved to see Kennywood and West View compete for patronage nowadays. The layout of the Dips reminds me of Lakemont's Skyliner a little.
We used to go there for our "School Picnic" every year!. I have since been shopping in the plaza where it used to be- I spent a great deal of time placing where the old rides used to be-
Thank you..I will for sure make a trip there one day. I so often think back on my youth going there with my family. I was fascinated reading about you going there when the park closed..and just looking at it all one more time. I think it would have been sad...yet, I wish I would have been able to do that too. I have a newspaper still showing how it was vandalized after closing...and that was sad for me too.
It was like someone disrespected an old friend. I know you would understand that.
@Ahmashell i am doing a project on west view amusement park and how it affect people of pittsburgh. do you think that you could give me the name of th newspaper and when the date was so i could try and find it on th internet thanks!
I remember those days !!! I lived just up the road from the park , All my family and friends worked at that park , There is videos that you can buy in the town of west view, pa , it tells you about the history of that great park and the stories that are haunting !! when the park closed I was there, whe all the rides were still there , the haunted houses were even scarier, than you can ever imagine !!! it was very quiet on a cold windy day in the winter of 1977 but these days will be mine forever
if you are familier with the town of west view ! There is a little store Called "Isaly's" which is on Route 19 Perry Highway , Directly across from the west view police station ! and also there is a flower shop that carry's the video as well and some other memorbilia !!

Sure...
It is from the Pittsburgh Press Roto March 16,1980. The article was called Coasting into Oblivion" by Rich Gigler.
If you can not find it on line...I can get it photcopied and mail it to you by mail.
Let me know. My paper is getting worn--it is 30 years old!
