NOT to be missunderstood : Ofcourse I DONT INTENT to say that is a Greek Song, noway..but it' s not Libanese sung in 70s etc...Even older grandfathers here know this rythm since their child hood..So lets focus in periods of time before 1900 ...
@ROSSOS20 I agree with you. Serres region was in the territory of Bulgaria up to 1912-1913. This rythm and melody is known in Bulgaria too especially Sandanski region and is played on zurna, which really means this is much older song than 70s may be typical for the whole region.
I really dont think that the originally song is "Al Eien Mulayitien", originally sung in the early 70's by "Samira Tawfiq as my father (born in 1950) remembers this song played by folklor local musicians in Macedonia, Greece, especially in region of Serres since he was a child...I guess it s an ancient song brought from anatolia...who knows from who...
Great rythm...I was not aware of this song as oan official song of Omar Faruk..BUT, I know this rythm since i was a child. I 32 years old and have been listening to this from local music players since i remeber myself...Espesially form guys playing an instrument (music,) called "journas" ..
Also, every single citizen in SERRES region of Greece, Macedonia knows this rythm...So i guess its an ancient combination of music/rythm brought here in Greece from anatolia or something like that...
I am sorry but this song is not Dabkeh. It is by Omar Faruk and a very common old Egyptian belly dance song. This is classified as saidi Music and taditional belly dance and cane dancing is performed to it.
The Original song is Called "Al Eien Mulayitien" originally sung in the early 70's by "Samira Tawfiq" a famouse Lebanese singer .. You guys can check this link to watch the orinigal song by Samira: /watch?v=6LoOX9kL15A .. song starts @ 2:25. Now "Omar Farouk Tekbilek" is a Turkish composer who remixed Samira's original song and Called It "Shashkin" & thats the version you are sharing Anyways i love both versions of the song thanx for posting :)
Now i'm sorry too but this song is a Dabka song sung originally by "Samira Tawfiq" in early 70's Called "Al Eien Mulaitien" you can google it up if you like : ).. but you might got confused here since "Nagwa Fouad" did a Belly dance video on a "Instrumental" version of that song back in the 80's or the early 90's i cant remember for sure : ))
:) 7adretak I know the song Al Eien Mulaitien by Samira Tawfiq wi I like it a lot wi ba7eb asmar dabkeh. Bas bardo this song is different.. el tune is almost the same.. bas this particular song later composed by omar faruk is a famous instrumental se3edi song that was played long long ago in the se3eed in masr :-)
I'm sorry to say but you are mistaken here, "Shashkin" is composed by the one and only Omar Faruk Tekbilek you can check his official websaite and check the track list of his CD called "Mystical Garden" : )) .. any ways "Shashkin" is Omar Faruk's modern remix version of Samira Tawfiq's (a lebanese singer) original famouse dabka song called "Al Eien Mulaytien" which was one of her most famouse dabka songs in the arab world back in the 70's and till this day :)
:) 7adretak I know the song Al Eien Mulaitien by Samira Tawfiq wi I like it a lot wi ba7eb asma3 dabkeh. Bas bardo this song is different.. el tune is almost the same.. bas this particular song later composed by omar faruk is a famous instrumental se3edi song that was played long long ago in the se3eed in masr :-)
@Petsy2006 well just judging from the title of the song - Shashkin is a Central Asian/Caucasus name from my feeling. I have no idea what it means, but if Shashkin is the name of the folklore this song is based on or is the original name of the song it is very likely of Turk or Caucasus origin - and in Turkey there is a substantial Caucasian Native population (notably Cherkessian people).
But I am just guessing from the title of the song bear that in mind.
@Petsy2006 ya I'd also cansider the flute more Arabic than Central Asian through much of the song... who knows why he called it shashkin! :) it could also be that parts of the song are of Caucasus origin, and he mixed them with other elements. I am not good enough in ethnic musical theory to be able to really analyze the song, sorry :))
Another great piece from Omar Faruk, especially that one sounds very Saidi Egyptian (upper egyptian) :)
