hey guys, do you think you all could watch my bass vids and drop some comments on em? id appreciate hearing your thoughts. ill be posting some more vids, so you can subscribe if you want. ill return the favor. thanks!
Excuse me" but I think a bass players job in a band is to hold the bottom, NOT to play lead, thats the job of the lead man,,not a fuck around guy TRYING to play lead on a bass.
Doesn't that depend on what the band leader wants? and the bass players job is to maintain rhythm and drive the song forward... when you're as good as these guys you can do pretty much anything you want with your instrument.
You realize that there was always more to jacos sound than just the fact that he often played fretless? Guys trying to be smartass and fucking it up makes me laugh, but that's just me...
If you play a fretless on the rear pickup you get that Jaco "mwoah" sound pretty easily. Of course, having Jaco's *technique* is another matter entirely.
Many of you that have made comments appear to have a limited vocabulary. Maybe you should spend less time criticizing somebodys effort (at no charge) to offer suggestions and help to other bassist. You might get past some of the childish four letter words that only show your lack of education. Grow up.
Am I the only one thinking that Steve is just trying to be Jaco while Vic is doing his own thing? I know Jaco didn't have six strings and shit, but artificial harmonics, triple octaves, fretless, jazz bass... Jaco copy. I know other great bassists lend stuff from Jaco, but not this much.
I'm not so sure about that. If he really wanted to be a Jaco copy, he'd only have four strings, along with a tone that's much more growly; not to mention that he uses three fingers and not two.
Oh geeze. I think he already explained himself back in, oh, the first post. He was calling you stupid because you don't seem to know any other people who play slap on 4 sting basses, which just happens to be something everyone does.
Now I know beginners start off with triple octaves, artificial harmonics, and fretless basses, but still. I'm not saying I've even heard Jaco, but your argument is so damn bad something has to be said.
With that bad an argument I hope you sound just like him. Calm down. Step away from the computer and take a few breaths of fresh air. Maybe when you come back you won't look like such an ass.
where the heel would you use this in real life playing? People learn to read, and learn theory, and play in the pocket, check out jamerson, chuck rainey, gerry jemott, ect....
Yes, sort of. If I'm correct, he plays the actual harmonic with his left hand index finger (fingering hand) and frets the neck normally, thus shortening the string and making a different note.
Haha..u know, the first time I saw this. I exactly thought the same thing. But I have watched other stuff by him and lessons hes taught esp for fretless bass. He really is a great guy..
basically you push down the fret, then push down where the octave above WOULD be if the next was long enough, then pull like hell. it takes awhile to get used to, as i'm still terrible at it and i've been working on them several months
@happyslappysoong The "artificial harmonics" are found by lightly tapping with his right hand, at very presice intervals of the string, which depend on the length of the string (and thus they depend on which note he's holding down with his left hand. Everyone's first naturla harmonics come when you tap the twelvth "fret" (or fretless!) with no note sustained with your left hand.
I just started learning bass, so they might as well have been speaking Hungarian, but the results were amazing. As was said, I would really have liked to hear them get serious. It's obvious they were about to shuck it on down to the cob.
