  • @CJ34Z

  • This is a Great tutorial :D it took me a while to transpose the information To the new Blender GUI though... can't wait until you Update :D

  • so this is the tutorial given by our professor ...

this is too advance ... but i hope you put some Voice over or annotation ...

i really wanted to make this HEAD ...

this is more helpful if you do that ..

    ^_^

  • Thx for this nice tutorial. My attention span was longer than 3 seconds, so I was able to follow this easily ;)

  • can somebody make a tutorial for blender 2.59? PLEASE? im totally at loss.

  • hi, im having some problems whith adding the imige to the background, i downloaded the new blender version, and i cant find eny info on this, i go to the load imige menu but it dosent appear.

  • Dont call it a tutorial if your not even going to speak or guide with annotations. This is just a demo for I haven't learned anything by watching this

  • @Nichiiro You do realise there is white text explaining what I do in the bottom left.

  • @CJ34Z nice vid man!!

But how is mirror modifier basic when you only show how to apply background img, subsurf mod, and grab rotate and scale. I would say this tutorial is as basic as it gets.:)

U got some nice stuff on ur channel tho.

  • there is supposed to be a drop down menu near the middle of the screen where you can select edit mode. ofc,if you don't know the basics then don't try this until you have at least made something complicated.

  • wow man, this is just another terrible tutorial. you don't even explain how to apply mirror modifiers and vital stuff like that ¬¬

  • @leopower7 If you don't know how to do those sorts of basic things then why are you attempting this more advanced tutorial.

  • @CJ34Z BECAUSE IF I WAS ADVANCED, WHAT WOULD I BE DOING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @leopower7 That wasn't the point I was making. Knowing those basics doesn't make you advanced. This tutorial is advanced because it requires more skill but before you can improve your skills you need to know how to use most of the programmes features.

  • I don't get it, how do I go into edit mode? It feels like I've tried everything!

  • @Horsaz the tab key to edit and not edit, g to "grab" aka move, k to make a loop, z to have it shaded and non shaded, i havent figured out how to make those lines but i only started yesterday :p

  • I have a question. Whenever i set a background image, it only lets me enter object mode. what am i doing wrong?

  • how u did that to get your objekt to wiremode and planes stay in textured mode ?!

  • im trying to make mmd models with blender and im kinda new to benlder so i was just curious, are you able to make anime faces with this head?

  • Thanks CJ, this helped me a lot.

  • is that on mac os x

  • at 2:12 what did u use, to select multiple vertices like that?

  • @hoowants2kno I agree! How?!

  • So you're using the top view as the front view!?!? That's fucking stupid.

  • How do you use the subsurf modifier? And btw, great tutorial :D

  • @MrCrunchyMunchy Go to modifiers, apply subsurf, the level determines amount of smoothing but also increases poly count and slows down pc performance.

  • @CJ34Z When i added the subsurf modifier it made my model a bit smaller than it's supposed to be. Do i just size it up?

  • @MrCrunchyMunchy With subsurf it will end up making your mesh smaller so you will end having to size it up a little bit.

  • Where do you find all these reference images? Oh and also how do you hilight a lot of vertices at once (I kno you can select using right click but I want to know how to select a bunch at once)

  • Comment removed

  • when I work with the object on the left, also the right one is changing ! :/ what do I have to do to work separately on one object and then on the second one? because now I created a potato, not a head. :D

  • @Algernon483 You would have to APPLY the mirror modifier so that now you can work separately on both sides.

  • there's no sound :( i get why it says "must watch", you sure can't listen to it !!

  • um.. really dumb question here.. ima first time user. how do i add the image links to the image menu?

  • How do you make the polygon transparent so all you see is the black lines?

  • @Sharingan920 The z key

  • in blender 2.5, you have to hit edit then W then subdivide smooth for it to get the rounded shape instead of the square subdivide, it took me almost a week of non stop attempt for 12 hours a day to discover this little fact. now I can move forward and make a person.

  • I give up!

    tihs iz ugh!!!

    killing me!

  • wow this helped me a lot!!! thank you

  • Ok... dumb question... but how do you select all of those vertices at 2:12? I'm in edit mode still, I can only assume you are. I can't tell if you used a hotkey or what...

  • @Mudkipkiller Hotkey B click and drag.

  • 2:00 How are you sizing it up? Every time I try that, the object goes nuts.

  • @Mudkipkiller Scale the object. Select all then s key.

  • @Mudkipkiller you have to move the mouse very very slowly :D

  • 0:15

The text is in the way dude, can't see what you're clicking on.

  • what are you pressing when you drag at 4:40 ********

  • what are you pressing when you drag at 4:30

  • it doesn't give me the choice to split the screen

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial its the best one i ever seen!

  • is it possible for me to use these head images and if so where do I find them?

  • @MagnetProductions sorry I just realised they were in the description!

  • lol i wonder if its poissible to make a head without background pic nd i how do u make it see thru

  • It is possible to make a head without a pic but it would be difficult as you would have no reference. To make your head see through go in wire frame mode (z key).

  • I fail...

  • In what file should I put reference photos?

  • my head is a fail

  • nice!

  • It might looks good but it isn't. This tutorial is horrible, it will teach you the wrong way to model a edge. It totally ignores edge loop and if you're going to animate your head model, following this tutorial will be a total mess.

  • oh....and now for some reason both pics r gone.........god i fail

  • Comment removed

  • what did you do to sbdvide

  • just click w to subdivide

  • Comment removed

  • After you subdivide it how do u pull the shape around?

  • yeah how¿¿¿

  • Select the verticies using border select (b key) then use either the g key or the arrows to move around the verticies.

  • wow thank you soooooo much mate

now i just need to texture and colour it

    thank you! =D

  • Hmmm....You really should narrate it. Invest in a microphone perhaps.

  • i have problem i click W to do this special window and i don't have specials --__--

  • Make sure you are in edit mode

  • Thanks

  • next time can tell us what buttons to press

  • ??? the face? ears? neck????

  • The title says basic Head if you want the face then go to my face tutorials.

  • oh ok, ill do that now

  • at 2:14 you started strething the shape how did u do that

  • You should really get to know all the basics first because stretching the shape is probably the first thing you should know how to do in blender. To stretch the shape either press the g key and drag the selected vertices up or click and drag the vertices using the arrow pointing up.

  • how do you do the lasso select to select the faces

  • The lasso select was alt+shift+right click.

  • Why cant i split the window? I right click on the top but nothing happens? :S

  • Hover your mouse over the top bar until you see your cursor become a fist. When it does that then try right clicking.

  • not right click middle click

  • yeah ur right, its middle click

  • Middle click how do you do that there are only two buttons on a mouse.

  • the scroller button thingy

  • I pressed the z key.

  • hey how can i change my cursour from a (+) to a mouse

  • go from edit mode to object mode on the box with the drop down arrow

  • Hey another question, at 2:14 how do you just move the top part of the mesh up?

  • how do I put pictures onto it u know like how u went to background image then load how do u add the picture.

  • oh I found out!!!

  • My question is (really sad actually) But in the very beginning when you use the split screen I cant seem to get it to go to side view and still be able to see the image.... therefor at around 2:50 I cant seem to do anything. Could you please help =/

Everything else I know how to do.

  • After you split the screen keep the first window in front view an the second window change to side view.

    Does this help?

  • It just shows the head (in an odd side view) without A picture for reference.

  • set view>ortographic

  • not bad...as an expert in modeling and anime2d/3d I can say even some1 that have no skills could do that...hopefully ull be better ;) u need more edges loops and details buy an anatomy book and learn where are the muscles in the face

  • how can you select just few points? I can't even deselect, and my cube was purple, not orange : (

  • deselect: press A (if you have nothing selected it will select everything)

select more points: shift + right click

and about the color.. ehm.. i guess you just have to go into edit mode or something.. not sure

  • about the color, you have a different version then he does, but the color doesnt matter anyway... Mines purple too...

  • you can do what he did selecting the mutiple points By pressing B

  • 4:34

  • 4: 34 i do not understand what happens

  • Comment removed

  • Itwould help if you were talking!

  • ya, i agree.

  • i also agree! :))

  • hey when at the beginning when you select certin apoint how do you do that?

  • at 2:14 how do you scale 2 faces on their own ?

  • I didn't scale what I did was I select those faces then moved them up. Hope this helps.

  • and how do i do that?

  • Do what?

  • pull multiple faces, instead of verticies

  • alt and lmb to get into free camera mode.

  • Finally! A Simple and easy way to model the head! Now I can finish my character! It took me at least 3 fricken weeks to get a least a head!

  • thanx helped alot!

  • I'm stuck at the point where you scale the subsurf up towards the original geometry of the head (When you turn the mesh orange and drag it larger.) what tool is that?

  • I used the Scale tool which is found in the mesh menu or by simply pressing the shortcut key S.

  • That's what I've been trying, but I'm not achieving the same result. My head looks the same as yours until 4:40, which is where I get lost. The mesh jumps back to the more simplified one, and then you scale it up and the subsurf gets 'pointier'. Mine has tons of facets and looks way to ovally. I don't know how you got that shape.

  • Try scaling the sub-surfed head in object mode instead.

  • i need help with what mannpower said too

  • All I did was I added the sub-surf modifier.

  • how do you select more than one vertice can't figure out how to do that

  • You can select more than one vertice by holding shift while you left click. Did this help?

  • Like CJ34Z said, hold Shift. The dragselecting retangle one uses by pressing b, be sure to deselect all other points first by pressing a.

  • I've got some funnz problem right by trying to smooth it. When I press "w" it shows me the bolean tools, if I press Shift+w it rotate on one axis around my cursor, if I press Ctrl+w it wants to save my file an when I press Alt+w nothing at all happens. Where is the smoothing operation tools on the menu bar so I can use it with the mouse or what elser could I press... Hehe

  • That is probably because your in object mode. First get into edit mode then press w.

  • Stupid me. Thank you for helping.

  • are you using a mac? and if yes is it difference from the ones from a Pc? becuz i have a pc and i dont know if i will get the same results as you if the one for mac and pc are different from each other.

  • Yes I am using mac. What is different from the PC? And yes you will get the same result.

  • Oh okay. And the differences are that Pc is...well...actually ur right theyre both the same.

  • how do you make it smooth more better....mine still look some pixelated on it.

  • After sub-surfing your head go to the editing panel and click Set Smooth if that doesn't work then make a video of your head and put as a video response and I will see what is the problem and tell you how to solve it.

  • hey how did u get the second view?

  • What I did was I right clicked the top bar of the window and a menu came up with the option saying split area and I clicked on that and the window split in two.

  • o hey thnx dude

  • no problem :^]
