@rootbeeronbroadway ..I read a recent interview with jerry herman in which it was suggested he write another show, based an" arsenic and old lace", with lansbury and Channing playing the leads..now I have doubts about the physical ability of either cahnning or even herman doing that at this point in their lives, but lansbury still has a show in her I imagine, she seems to be bursting with theatre energy at age 85!
This is great. Angela turns is a good performance in this song. I've liked her since before she played the excellent role in The Manchurian Candidate. I was disappointed to see 'Murder She Wrote' taken off and replaced. It seemed to reflect a joy of living even though it involved a murder investigation, usually.
"Mame" was the first musical I ever became involved in when I was in high school. Did not get cast but worked backstage and fell in love with the show. 6 years later got cast as Older Patrick in a local production. Also got to be in the chorus in Act I since Older Patrick does not appear until start of Act II. Wonderful, wonderful memories. Thanks for posting this incredible footage from the original show!!
If Broadway is dying, its because this stuff is not being celebrated and presented enough. You don't get that kind of an ovation unless your performance was electric. Bravo Miss Lansbury.
This really is one of the biggest curtain calls ever and, I agree, epic is a perfect word. Very deserved response for Lansbury.
