The guy with the toupee was funny, too! That was a standard part of his act. He was also in a Three Stooges short called "Disorder in the Court," and the same thing happens there!
I was born in '62 and Rascals reruns were ALWAYS my favorite. This is the version of Dinah I knew. It was only later that I learned that there was nothing jazzy or syncopated about this song until Louis Armstrong vamped it up and (at least according to Ken Burns) that changed everything - jazz.
Wow i hear this every week! My little sister watches our gang too much...i hear this and Old McDonald had a farm pretty often...i still love em though
They started out singing gospel as THE 5 SPIRITS OF HARMONY.They were from Salisbury, North Carolina. They made their first film in 1934 called" She's My Lilly [I'm Her Willie ] Their name was changed to THE CABIN KIDS in their second film from 1934 "Way Down Yonder."
Just outstanding!! I will never forget this song along with Old McDonald done in another Our Gang episode when I too was a child growing up, pure talent!!...
When I was a real little kid in San Diego, Johnny Downs, ex-Our Gang member, hosted the "Little Rascals" on local TV. This short, "Beginner's Luck" played frequently so that by the time I was three I had "Dinah" memorized. On a long car trip back East in 1956, my brother and I started singing "Dinah" over and over again from the back seat, driving our poor mother to distraction.
The Cabin Kids appeared in several Our Gang shorts in the 1930s and they would be singing in their scenes. They were one of the few African American quintet groups composed of children that I recall and they were siblings of course. Their mother was Beatrice Hall. I am not sure if their parents were in showbusiness. As of 1935, the names and ages were: Ruth,11; Helen,10;James,9; Winnie,6; and Fred 4. I think there might be one or wo still alive but not sure.
That's awesome. This is from a little rascals episode. I swear these are some of the best short flicks ever made. When I was a kid they used to have "Our Gang" and "Little Rascal" shorts every day when I I got home from school. Great times
I love this. Looked for it last summer but it wasn't up. Ordered the MP3 instead. The little boy is always itching in the songs but gets his part spot on.

I always thought the little guy, at 0:40 was hysterical. Also, when they clonk heads at the end.

Every night why do I shake with fright? beacause my Dinah might change her mind about me...
Dinah, if she went to china, I'd hop an oceanliner just to speak to Dinah Lee...
