Epic fight. I respect Jacare´s comitment to get the win. He did what he had to do. I whould have tapped, but im not jacare and fighting is not my profession. Beautifull armbar by Roger, and great sportmanship on his behalf aplauding Jacare in the end. Roger could have just grabed his arm and shake that thing till jacare passed out just from the pain, but he didnt. Was is sportmanship? lack of killer instinct? tiredness, i don´t know. Still it was an epic battle, and i love watching it.

They need to adjust scoring IMHO, thanks to matches like this. Yes, he won according to the score, and yes, he had his back, but how about all the stalling? Gracie had more sub attempts, and even broke his arm. But if a fighter is afraid to fight, shouldn't he be dq'd, instead of manipulating the scoring system?
He should have lost that fight. If he could continue to fight with a broken arm and still win, great. But he couldn't, he had to keep running out of bounds until time ran out. He should not have been allowed to continue if he refused to fight. What if he just got ahead on points and didn't have a broken arm? Still acceptable to refuse to fight? Jacare was penalized twice for avoiding engagement. I think he got off easy. But the fight shoudn't have been stopped just for the armbar. If a fighter gets injured and it's not life-threatening and they want to continue, they should be allowed to.

you cant stop a match for stalling, so many fighters win by taking the guy down and staying in their guard controlling the hips etc. yes the ref is allowed to say hurry up but jacare wasnt even stalling that badly just evading rogers takedowns, i think its ultimately rogers fault that he couldnt even take a guy down with a broken arm.

Roger won this fight. Ref should have stopped the match as the safety of the competitors are on his hands but he let the fight go on even if the competitor already had a broken arm. Both have great heart but referee was probably too scared to make his own decisions so he let the competitors control the match. bad referee

@11215142615 Roger spent the first 3/4 of the match pulling guard and stalling with a closed guard. Souza spent most of the match trying to break Roger's closed guard. Yea, Jacare should've been penalized for stalling, but the guy had one arm and was dramatically outweighed. Huge props.

Most basic lesson you should learn when you start the sport is to tap. Jacare couldn't swallow his pride and refused to tap to the better grappler.

Points in bjj competition are awarded for positional dominance which enables the dominant fighter to land strikes in a street fight. The idea behind striking someone is to damage. Breaking someone's arm is damaging and Roger had done it within the rules. Duh.
Being put in a bad position doesn't mean you can't fight anymore either. What Jacare had done to Roger in that fight isn't as bad as what Roger had done to Jacare.
It is gay what jacare did but he won with the way the rules are set up. It is a flaw in Rogers game if he can't get a hold of a guy with 1 arm. If Rogers arm was broken and Jacare was chasing him around, Roger would get eaten, He got his revenge in abu dhabi though

International BJJ Federation desperately needs to change the rules when something like this happens. If someone is out of bounds (from the mat) they need to restart standing or do something to avoid this ... I agree with Jacare on this one, he was trying to walk away from Gracie and NOT fight him when Gracie grabbed him from behind by the feet ... but still, stuff like that never happens in Judo, Sambo or Wrestling ... because they got good rules for cases like that.

1) if someone completes a submissions (ie: breaks his opponent's arm with an armbar), they should be given the match
2) blatantly running away and running out of bounds for no other reason than to stall out the clock should be grounds for a DQ

Why wasn't he disqualified for stalling? It's nobody's fault that he didn't wanna tap. He shouldn't be allowed to stall just because he wanted to be stubborn. The way I see it, he got caught, refuse to accept his loss to the better man, and so paid the the fuckin price: a broken arm. Why was he allowed to run? I guess I just don't get how the sport works...

@11215142615 Roger spent the first 3/4 of the match pulling guard and stalling with a closed guard. Souza spent most of the match trying to break Roger's closed guard. Yea, Jacare should've been penalized for stalling, but the guy had one arm and was dramatically outweighed. Huge props.

He failed to tap out to an armbar and injured himself. You could argue that he's tough for staying in but he dodged Gracie for the rest of the match instead of continuing to compete. Most basic lesson you should learn when you start the sport is to tap. Jacare couldn't swallow his pride and refused to tap to the better grappler.

Reminds me of a Judo tournament, I threw a kid who blocked his landing with his arm. His arm broke. He was ahead by 1 koka (smallest point) and managed to fend me off til the fight was over. He won... I respect that russian fucker a lot.

Points in bjj competition are awarded for positional dominance which enables the dominant fighter to land strikes in a street fight. The idea behind striking someone is to damage. Breaking someone's arm is damaging and Roger had done it within the rules. Duh.
Being put in a bad position doesn't mean you can't fight anymore either. What Jacare had done to Roger in that fight isn't as bad as what Roger had done to Jacare.

International BJJ Federation desperately needs to change the rules when something like this happens. If someone is out of bounds (from the mat) they need to restart standing or do something to avoid this ... I agree with Jacare on this one, he was trying to walk away from Gracie and NOT fight him when Gracie grabbed him from behind by the feet ... but still, stuff like that never happens in Judo, Sambo or Wrestling ... because they got good rules for cases like that.
