  • this guys has it all wrong the racket face should be almost exactly strait at contact.

  • lol at 1:49 the way he does that gay ass "lob volley" if i was there i'd just run up and smash the fuck out of him!!!!

  • @trilfy You say you would smash his lob volley, you wouldn't even be given the opportunity to smash since most likely this volley would have been a winner. This guy was as high as 61 in the world in singles. If you are someone who has achieved an atp rank of 60 or better, then you can say that. Other than that, know what you're talking about.

  • This old man doesn't know how to fucking teach. Wtf is he doing he looks like a retard

  • @trilfy This old man was 61 in singles on the atp tour.

  • He`s using the best racquet ever...Head microgel prestige pro...HE CANNOT FAIL, YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS¡¡

  • Someone please re-post this video with TimeWarp from the rocky horror show as the soundtrack!

  • horrible :D

  • it will be good to save all the bs and show you how much you sucks and save everybody's time.

  • is he lobing the volleys? -.-'

  • Even a good pro can give bad tips.

It explains why a professional player (like him) doesnt always

    have to give good tips.

  • wow, his overgrip is so high up his racket...

  • never seen to teach volee' in this way... sorry guys but i guess there is something wrong

  • While he may look a little silly doing what he's doing, the process is about developing the muscle memory so when you're in a match, your footwork and technique remain solid. This is how people learn and I'd bet it's not much different than how Federer and Nadal learned when they were kids.

  • coach , your are so techincal !!

    thanks you for this !!

  • @TennisAnnalyst

thanks, i studied my TOK fairly well, i know the fallacy presented

but the point of the comment wasnt the logic that this guy is competent at teaching

its to mock the dumb nuts who think think they're any better than a porofessional

  • is it just me or does his racquet seem too open on his forehand volley ? dnt get me wrong not saying he's crap but just seems like his racquet is too open? wat do you lot think ? or is it just the view of the camera ?

  • 1:09 - 1:20 ; LOL

  • No need to be so strict about the grip. Play how you are most comfortable and try to hit with a hint of slice. At the end of the day, there is no right or wrong in tennis. See what technique works best for you.

  • Oh my... youtube is so full of internet tennis heroes who think they are so good and know everything. This guy actually knows what he's talking about so shut the fuck up.

  • waho anoher ready position reference

  • @xalamos, apparently you're an idiot, because you can't "ace" off of a volley, plus this is a drill, not something you do in a match, as i recall him saying in the video @2:36 "The drill is very simple."

    get out of here.

  • The little slice n the forhand is great, i'm trying it and its working perfect, also the increase of the power in the backhand, this guy is excellent using those simple robotic movements. thanks

  • Rofl, this "ready position" thing doesn't work. As you go back slowly to the service line, the opponent would ace the shit out that moonball volley.

  • He may be a former pro, but would it be smart for Gasquet to teach everyone his one-hander picture perfect, or Santoro to only teach his two-handed forehand? Sorry, he may have been a good pro player, but there are some pros that should learn/relearn to teach tennis.

  • all the balls are flying out lol

  • back to ready position

  • no one knows how to teach a volley any more -

    but i do.

  • no one knows how to teach a volley any more -

    but i do

  • Only a retard would give this guy for tennis tips. He's full of garbage.

  • you´re missing the point this guy is really funny doing what he is doing ..back to ready position ...back to ready position ... nad the technic is perfect.

  • Finally someone that is showing the correct way to do it, just look at the stupid webtennis videos, the guy on there does everything wrong.

  • 0:35 I LOLED SO HARD!!

  • i cant do the eyes on parts thing.

  • Ahh the input of Ammateurs. The contact point, the weight transfer, racket path - all teh same as the Pro's, the only difference is he crosses his arm over after teh contact point. So what, his lead shoulder stays forward and doesnt open up like I bet most of you lot do. Ive played him in doubles a few times and I can assure you he vollies very well.

  • When excellence is speaking dont crictize. Back to ready position. Its totally real, the man is giving you game, you should flatter the man an copycat his style. Back to ready position. Race an were he is from has nothing to do with his talent. His playing record speaks for itself, he may just lack teaching skills, so kiss. Take it for what it is. Back to ready position

  • hhhhhhhh

they have to show the other part of the court, because the returned balls seem to be sooooo baaaaaad

  • Actually i thought he was doing it kinda wrong at first but it seems its his style and he did volley well with those practice volleys.

  • If you want to become a GREAT TENNIS PLAYER (match player), go to my channel: ( 2knowfun2 ) and watch the video: World Class Tennis (Part1/2) and (Part2/2). I have designed both videos in a very unique way . When you have watched and mastered both (lessons) videos (part 1 and part 2), you will become a Great Match Player.

  • Hey Andre!

  • very weird technique... both arms crossing? which pro does that?

  • @gentlemen59 It's because in a real game it's so fast that you don't see it. But they do that, just way faster. They're able to do it like that every time from practicing it for thousands of hours.

  • @hattrickster33 theres no way any pro does what this guys doing. search on youtube federer or any pro volleying in a match slo-mo, and tell me they have this unorthodox volley.

  • @gentlemen59 everyone's volley is different but you're right, this isn't the same as any other pro

  • @gentlemen59 he is a pro

  • @leandror19 so he says....

  • @leandror19 so he claims

  • Hmmm.... this guy is Devil;-) чертяка жжжот )))

  • By watching his videos I cannot decide if it is a joke or reality. Some people here say he was a pro and highly ranked @ ATP. If so all my respect.

On the other hand looking to this video I was a bit smiling. Perheps his intention to teach some stable technique to the beginners? Does this volley crossing your hands work at all?

Some feedback would be great because it looks very very strange to me.

  • people have different styles for playing

  • thanks for a great video. You make it simple and easy to get started with volleys. greatly appreciated

  • i hardly believe any of us are going to have enough credibility to criticize...just stop guys lol he could pwn ur ass in a match so idk. just think about it..

  • although his movements are awkward he is really talking a lot of sense. .

  • this kind of volley is really strange, not only because you can't slice every single ball, but even because it's too much mechanic, while the touch under the net should be more fluid and sensible....anyway, this is just my opinion, and if this execution is "profitable" and confortable, it can be an alternative, (old school) interpretation of volleys nice foot work anyway

  • He was #61 ATP @ Imsypj. Show some respect, fool. I am sure talented players on the internet can improve their game by watching Gilad´s vids. I am also sure he would beat ur ass on the court. Keep on grinding, GILAD!

  • damn you are right!! but by looking at these vids i would never have thought he was a pro......

  • 3:10 is where the fun starts. Even if he did win some pro matches he is funny, especailly when moving back to "ready postion" good laugh.

  • is he andre agassi?

  • lol he is cuter den agassi

  • Is he a robot or a retard?

  • Comment removed

  • cuti picka ti materna @ajvan.

  • I'm sorry, this guy is awful. You don't hold the raquet in-line with the nose. You hold the raquet in an almost backhand volley position. And tennis is a game of fluidity, he looks terribly robotic in his movements.

If anybody wants to learn tennis, go check out Vic Braden and listen to everything he says.

The foremost authority on tennis, Theriokid, gives Vic Braden my stamp of approval.

  • do u want to slice every volley??

  • The essentials of a technical correct modern volley are completely wrong. Modern tennis teaches (1) slightly different grips for forehand and backhand, (2) racket to be hold parallel to the net when hitting the ball, and (3) the arm should be bent and not extended as shown in the demos! This videos are not only wrong they are misleading! Only the foot work looks ok but the rest looks like a 50 year old tennis video... Grrrrrrrr

  • I think the bald guy here is a good teacher but his shorts is too high just above belly button.

Later or soon he will lose his balance.

  • is he drunk

  • I think he s a good teacher! Everything he says is so true and important for the volley!

  • I agree with you my friend !!

  • i think robocop would do it with more elegance! :)

  • Who would want to look like that while playing volleys? He comes from the Ministry of Silly Walks!

  • Does this guy look professional? NO! He looks like a total dork - no professional plays like this!

  • you judgemental motherfiuckers. When did any of you ever play/hit with any grandslam players or coaches?

NEVER, so shut the fuck up.

  • yes, I am a 4.5 player, I improved because of this clip !!

  • OKAY where are the actual videos where the person is actually DEMONSTRATING it instead of talking cuz all i hear is blah blah bla, blah blah.

  • actually in the ready position , you need to take the racket away from your view and lower a little bit that racket but everything else is exactly on th money.. :)

  • this is rich, heres is a guy who was a professional tennis player, who has advanced to the 4th round of the US open(defeated by Lendl), and represented Israel in the olympics twice, teaching how to volley... and down the comments are guys saying how bad the technique of the volleys are, and putting their own versions of the "correct" way to do it...

hey, TheSuperJohnnymack and caboto17, any luck making it pro? no? didn't think so

  • exactly , this guy even for me that didn't know who he is , is an excelent teacher of tennis.

A bit old school, i give them that but excelent teacher right away we can see.

  • Who cares who this guy is? These video tutorials on volley technique are truly dreadful! The worst!

  • @foul01 we are just learning ok so no need to get so fucked up defending this guy. His advice is horrible - tennis is about feel and there is only one way to get that - hit a lot of balls - you get a lot of these has beens advising on quick fix techniques. oh by the way a good player does not necessarily make a good coach

  • terrible forehand grip for volleys, the backhand should have that much slice, not forehand

  • This is a good quality lesson on the basics of volleying

  • I don't know why people are saying his form is wrong. It's correct including the split step to cut towards the ball and to gain momentum because there's no follow-through with the racket. He uses a lot of slice because the ball is coming so slowly and he's trying to show where the point of contact is. If he were returning a regular baseline shot coming at him, his movement would be quicker and his "punch" would use the ball's momentum. It all depends on his approach shot and how good it is.

  • this is the funniest video Ive seen a long time,,, priceless at the end when he is volleying at the net and then moving back to the service line..... in tears laughing here....

  • his movement/muscles are way too stiff. I hope he doesn't actually teach anyone to volley like that.

  • I agree! The worst volley tutorial ever!

  • this guy doesnt know wat hes talking about does he

  • OMG, this is the worst volley form I ever seen. It looks like he learned how to volley from a retard.

  • horrible technique on the volley

  • полезно

  • Please do not learn anything from this vedio, the movement was too ugly and mostly wrong.

  • the racquet should be below your chin so you better see the ball and opposing player

  • sei un cesso nno sai giocare

  • he's creepy.

  • added on my birthdate. nice nice.

I sort of get what he's saying. Will try it.

  • Comment removed

  • no, right handers should also use the left arm. like the guy in the vid.

  • so basically if your not lefty like him you will hold the racket on your right hand RIGHT?

  • i haven't met a pro who volleys like that-- ever! well maybe other than this chap... he might have a point or two for some recreational player

  • Not true. What he's teaching is the most basic fundamentals. Not to be underestimated. He over exaggerates to put emphasis on the main points. At full speed, things don't look the same.

  • Comment removed

  • tennis looks so easy but its not. Don't think that you can do all these things. you cant do these before you get lessonS.

  • this guy rocks!!!!

  • I hit the volley much better than this guy . In tenis every player has his style so in my opinion there aren't exact rules except the basics ( serve , forehand ,backhand, volley , slice etc.). It's how you feel the ball because in a tenismatch you simply can't hit exactly by those rules.

So what I recommand to tenisplayers, is to try this volley and adjust it to their feelings so that the hits will be constant and right placed.

  • He looks funny. : )

  • 1:27 is not recommended unless:

    1. u don't cross step 2 much

    2. it's a weak return and u can put it away.

  • this is totally wrong you should always keep your legs moving to increase the blood flow

  • Is this a joke?

  • I don't think so....no one is laughing

  • Gracias amigo por tus tips me son de muchisima ayuda. :)

  • thanks a lot man, your tips are great !

  • i don't think his righthand voley is correct, i don't see the point of taking ur non hitting arm in top of the raquet when u r hitting the ball, i mean 1st u might loose balance and 2nd is not quite elegant, But that's just me, i don't know what u guys think about it...

  • he's a former number 61 in the world

    how high did you get?

  • SAY WHAT?!?!?!!!???!!

  • back in 1912

  • how long was he ranked #61 for? 2-days?

  • I don´t know but i remember him playing ATP Tournaments in the early 90ies. Mostly losing in Round 1 or 2.

  • Duhhh how bout if your running what do you do stop get in ready position and then hit it but it's already gone past you you don't have to have the ready position

  • If you ran up to the net and you don't have time to get in ready position - you are in trouble. It's either you should not be there or you ran too slow.

Always try to get in ready position before the shot.

  • The racquet is was to flat for a volley from what m coach told me it has to have not to much angle or it will go to high you have to have it on the slightest angle.

  • great video thx tought me a lot

  • 00Icii00 : I never posted it, but never saw the lady.....do you have any idea where is she at?...or is there any step missing here?

  • maybe it's the way you're stepping in. I've had the same issue. remember to step diagonal, not vertical to the net. When you step vertical, you're getting no leg power in the volley and only relying on your arm's power. The volley really relies mostly on the legs for power. another issue is slicing. U might be slicing the ball too much and not enough force. remember, push forward rather than just slicing. I hope my advice helped. =)

  • He is just giving the basic position for a new begineer. He is trying to convey all volleys are hit with a open racquet face and depending on high or low the ball is, you open the racquet up more or less. I think this is how a volleys should be thought and not this punch, punch forward bs that most coachs teach beginners.

  • These are the best tips we can ever find on the volley.

Thank you very much Gilad !!! You were a great tennis player and you are now a great coach !!!

  • the only thing i dont understand about this video is the rise on the ball, my tennis coach tells me to hit it down and to the sides of the court to make it difficult to return. either way im goin to try this at practice tomorow

  • he's exaggerating the movements guys to make it easier to understand... this guy know's what he's talking about!

  • gilad bloom is a former ATP pro. he is just exaggerating the form so people could understand.

  • He is EXAGGERATING the movements on the volley and footwork so it will be incredibly obvious and easy to follow. He's working on the assumption that people watching will be intelligent enough to understand that. Guess he was mistaken.

Regardless, the guy in the video has achieved an ATP top 100 ranking and been to the 4th round of the US Open. The people criticising him HAVEN'T.

  • good vid

  • Good video. I think he is a very good teacher.

  • he's only exaggerating so beginners can get the form down first
