@mrgears It's not embarassing at all. In fact, it's very common for a Pro Mod car to NOT make a full pass for various reasons. Obviously, you have no clue what it takes to keep a 2,500-3,000 horsepower car with short wheelbase in the groove. Anything can and does happen. These cars are extremely volatile and violent animals.
@OneBadSuperbird I'm hip to how nasty these pro mods can be thanks to conversations with Spyros Legakis and Scotty Cannon. I personally have never taken a car over 450HP down the aisle so in that vein I suppose I really don't have a clue as to how it feels. I wasn't considering a test and tune scenario which seems to be the case here. It looks like I was right about letting off the hammer but the driver did it purposely as you have pointed out. Thanks for the enlightenment.
@mrgears No prob! I've spent a fair amount of time around a few Pro Mod cars and learned a lot. These are AMAZING machines but also very, very volatile and hard to handle. I'm glad the NHRA and ESPN are finally starting to give themsome more recognition!
@mrgears He let off because of tire spin....you can see the smoke and hear the rpm's at maximum...if he wouldnt have let off, he would have wrecked or blown the motor....
I know the builder of this car and actually helped a little around the shop while they were building it. The car it was based on was a rusted hulk, waaaay beyond restoration. They cleaned it up the best they could and used the body to make molds for the carbon fiber copy you see here. The motor is a 526 Hemi on alcohol with a big ass blower on top. Matt Tolbert is the owner and a very cool guy. I was lucky to be able to come and help out while the build was going on. Thanks for the vid!!

@Conquest351 That is way, way cool! Matt sold the car to my friend Dave Schultz several years ago and Dave ran it for a few years before selling it. It changed hands a couple more times and then I believe the car went to across the pond to Europe. I'm not sure what it's current status is. There may be a few posts about it further down the page. Im guessing this elcamino is another duke nukem playing wannabe..paint the wall with your guts? really? with the anonymity of the internet thats the best Drama queen threat you could do?
To say that you are a scumbag low-life punk would be an understatement. Just look at the comments you make here. It's so obvious what a low-life you are and how poorly you were raised. The world definitely doesn't need scum like you and the car hobby DEFINITELY doesn't need scum like oyu. Time to grow up and act like a man and not a 12 year old punk.
you started calling me names first and IM the low-life scumbag? you sound like a loser that has no self confidence in himself so you have to call of people names to feel better...
Ummmmmmm....excuse me here but if YOU hadn't been a disrespectful PUNK and talked crap about other people's cars, you wouldn't have been treated the way you were treated. I'm not much of a fan of low-riders with hydraulics but I have respect for the people that build the cars and their interests in cars. If YOU had the same respect for other people's interests and kept your disrespectful crap to yoiurself, you wouldn't be treated like a disrespectful punk. Learn from your mistakes & move on.
Once again, you show absolutely no class or respect whatsoever. One other reason that I will soon delete all your replies is your inability to refrain from using profanity. I try to keep a family-friendly YouTube page and snot-nosed punks who think it makes them cool when they use profanity are not welcome. As for your original comment, it was disrespectful and showed no respect for other people's interests. Just because YOU don't like it, does not mean it is ruined. Learn some respect.
Respect is a luxury nowadays.....anyway, I love these cars and am looking forward to the Pro Mod Weekend here in Mission BC Canada. I am also headed to Pacific Raceways in Kent WA in July for the NHRA event there. First time I will be seeing funny cars and top fuel up close. Looking forward to it.
That sounds like a really cool event. I hope you have a great time there. We worked a Mopar event in Columbus, Ohio this weekend and one of our racer buddies debuted a brand new Pro Mod '70 Cuda. He spent the weekend getting the car sorted out and it's an extremely cool ride.
Yeah if the loser thinks Pro Mod cars look too far removed from the originals, i can only imagine what the narrow-minded twit thinks of Funny Cars. I honestly believe how some fools act. Like for instance, Indy Car racing is not really my cup of tea but I would NEVER IN A MILLION years go and talk crap about it on a Indy Car site or web page. Some people just have no respect or common sense whatsoever.
Hmmmmmmm...I hadn't even seeen this comment. This is just more proof of what a low-life punk you are. The car hobby definitely does not need disrespectful low-life scum like you. I'm going to keep you around for a few more days just to expose you for the scum that you are and then you'll be gone.
Here we have yet another lame response from the disrespectful fool. Dude, you need to give it up already. It was your own ignorance and lack of respect of other people's interests that got you in this. I guess it's also a lack of common sense and intelligence that's keeping your from being able to see that. I can't even imagine going on someone else's YouTube page and trashing someone else's interests. That speaks volumes of your character...or lack of it. Time to learn some respect.
A most excellent reply! Again, you have shown that you are a product of extremely poor raising. Whoever raised you obviously did not instill basic core values in you otherwise you wouldn't be acting like a snot-nosed punk and talking crap about other people's interests. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of that in today's generation and hence, that is a major part of what is wrong with today's generation and the world today. As Phreak said, it is sad, very sad.

oh some im "stupif" just because i dont watch the same lame ass races you do, where the beautiful car bodys of the old days get FUCKED UP by faggots like you that like the way terrible things look?
Here we have a complete idiot who knows absolutely nothing about drag racing. Only a total moron would talk smack about Pro Mod. Even after telling the fool that there isn't one single part on a Pro Mod car that interchanges with an original. Only a total loser would have no appreciation for a car that goes low 6's in the 1/4 mile at 240 MPH. This guy is a total moron and not worthy of the car hobby in any way shape or form. This is living proof of abortion gone bad.
i dont care if it has original parts or not fuckstick, you fucked up a good body style. whats the good of a car that will go "low 6's in the 1/4 mile at 240 MPH" thats all itll ever be good for,so why should i like it. i fucking love old cars and i can see u hate them the way you screwed the body up all to hell. get a life you loser, shouldn't someone be shoving their fist up your ass or something?
hey junior... they haven't fucked up an old car for Pro-Mod in over 20 years... every one of these cars is either a fiberglass or carbon-fibre body over a dedicated RACE chassis built from scratch... you really ARE stupid.
LOL! You'll have that! I've found that there's a TON of "expets" on the internet. When I first read what he posted about ruining an old car, I almost sprayed Coke all over my keyboard and monitor! In just looking at a Pro Mod car, it seems like COMMON SENSE would tell ya that there ain't one part on the car that came off of a production car. Oh well...
And most people aren't total flaming morons that say really stupid stuff that's still worth getting a laugh about three months later! I could see if you were crying and complaining about what I really AM doing to a real Superbird but to cry and complain about a Pro Mod Superbird that doesn't have one single part off of a Superbrd? LMAO!!! Well hey, if it makes ya feel any better, reading your comments do make for some great entertainment for the folks that check out my videos! Thanks!
Fantastic response! Would it not have been more prudent to say something along the lines of "gee, i didn't realize that there wasn't one single piece on that car that came off of a production automobile, i'm sorry"? Or would that have made too much sense? I guess you'd rather those folks who do have some common sense ridicule your lack of knowledge.
Honestly one of the sickest S-Birds I have ever seen!! Sweet! Now I am not a Dodge guy but does this guy get a lot of guff for tearing up a Original Superbird?
Actually no. There's not one single part on that car that came off of an original Superbird. The chassis is a custom fabricated tube chassis and the body is all custom made from carbon fiber. I'm sure I'll be the one catching the grief for putting a four-link coilover rear, subframe connectors, fuel cell and eight point roll cage in a real Superbird.
won't catch hell from me. IMROVE. I don't ever wanna see a superbird or antything else for that matter get spanked by a honda with a fart can, just because it wasn't built to compete. Screw originality. lol
Superbird wings, by design, exert extreme downforce at speed. There's no reason to believe the wing on this car would be any different, along with the other more traditional Pro Mod stabilizers used on this car.
I'm not real sure what all cars the Texas Big Bird raced in it's days on the Pro Mod circuit. I shot this footage at Norwalk Raceway Park in Norwalk, Ohio at the 2002 Norwalk Chrysler Classic.
whell import cars has got a lot of handling but dosent have the tourqe to win agains an v8 in a 1/4 no matter how mutch money you put in it..why do yall think most dragsters use v8? haha
yea but there will be some time we have the tech to do so if u can get 4000hp out of a 4 banger we can get 8000hp out of a import v8 its already been proven dude its just no1 has the kind of money to do it and i think that the import motors will be the better because yes top fuelers are fast but they cost so much money bob norwood said it himself his car cost 100g it runs 5.9 1/4 and running cost are a 1/4 of what a top fuel car
and titan motorsports scion is faster then bigbird i meen dont get me wrong i love this car its just i think imports have a good future in front of them they have way better tech. then us
k and is that all you guys say is but but but bit but yea know shit they run 4s you think i dont think that what the fuck happen to everyone damn yall ignorent mother fuckers
onebadsuperbird you still have to realize all the work it took to make that bad ass car i restore muscle cars i know all the bullshit people go thru to make these cars so ill give this guy props
HUH?!? I do realize how much work goes into building a Pro Mod car. What I was replying to was the person who was crying because they throught a real Superbird or real Superbird parts were used to build the car when in reality, there isn't a single piece on the entire car that came from an original Superbird or Road Runner. In other words, nothing rare, valuable or irreplaceable was used to assemble the car.
HUH??? How do you figure that??? That car is nothing more than a tube chassis drag car that has ABSOLUTELY ZERO parts on it off of a real Superbird. Pretty much the entire body was made of carbon fiber. Are some of you people from Pluto or what???
the coolest muscle car ever built gets even cooler. whats better that american muscle running 200mph in a 1/4 mile. Who cares if the car is original or a custom tube frame and completely custom body, I'd make it a race car regardless. These cars were built to go back in the day, and thats what they should be built to do today. Race 'em, oratleast drive 'em. dont store and "collect" for resale value.
You're right. In fact I think I don't like this (Don't be angry about that...) because I think the car is'nt really the same after... and thank for teach me the utility of the additional spoiler (it's a true thank)But please remember that all French are not like me, and you're again right when you say I know nothing about that (France haven't got muscle car like USA).I understood what you mean and sorry for my obnoxious/too quick comment. I'm not coward,I just understood my mistake.
No worries. I am still a little bit annoyed that one of your contrymen bought this very popular race car and took it out of the U.S.A. and then shipped it back to the U.S.A. and then supposedly ran out of money and abandoned the car at the shop he took it to. No offense intended to you.
I just find it a few strange... a few too big on the rear (I don't mean the traditional spoiler, but the modification just on the top of "Plymouth", under the spoiler...)
I just prefer Superbird without any modification, I think...
Sorry if you are angry, it was just my personal opinion.
I'm certainly not angry but it's quite obvious that you know NOTHING about Pro Mod drag racing. If you did, you would know that the additional rear spoiler is necessary to keep the rear of the car on the ground at speeds in excess of 200 MPH. You shouldn't be so quick to judge other people's cars. I think that's why you Frenchies have such a bad reputation for being obnoxious.
The car was not even close to being street legal. It was a totally purpose-built tube chassis Pro Mod drag car. Some dude from France bought it, had no clue what he was doing and ended up parting the car out.
Ummmmmmm...WHAT'S horrible? There's not one single part on that car that came off of an original Superbird. You French people are really weird. In answer to your question, one of YOUR French countrymen bought the car and completely butchered it up and the car no longer exists.
I have a globe! In fact, it's one of them globes that have various different stones for each country. Nice piece except for the fact that it was made in China! As for the TBB, it may be in Britain now but it went to someone in France. The story was that he left the car or pieces of the car at the late Dick Landy's shop in California.
Awesome Car!!

kapakegga 4 years ago 2
out of that? please..you are retarded. i have never seen no import get the time slip of match the horsepower of a top fuel.
suprbird 4 years ago
yea but there will be some time we have the tech to do so if u can get 4000hp out of a 4 banger we can get 8000hp out of a import v8 its already been proven dude its just no1 has the kind of money to do it and i think that the import motors will be the better because yes top fuelers are fast but they cost so much money bob norwood said it himself his car cost 100g it runs 5.9 1/4 and running cost are a 1/4 of what a top fuel car
enemyracing 4 years ago
well thats 2 seconds shy. It takes a ton to make a car run 4's from a car that runs 6's
disturbedproject 4 years ago
and titan motorsports scion is faster then bigbird i meen dont get me wrong i love this car its just i think imports have a good future in front of them they have way better tech. then us

OneBadSuperbird 4 years ago
That poor poor Superbird.....
CMBianchi 4 years ago
HUH??? How do you figure that??? That car is nothing more than a tube chassis drag car that has ABSOLUTELY ZERO parts on it off of a real Superbird. Pretty much the entire body was made of carbon fiber. Are some of you people from Pluto or what???

Cars like this keep me going to the track. Sounds incredible!

the texas big bird pro-mod has been sold to an english buyer and has arrived in the UK, it is to be run in "super pro" with a 604 cid hemi on gas.
baldandold 5 years ago
the coolest muscle car ever built gets even cooler. whats better that american muscle running 200mph in a 1/4 mile. Who cares if the car is original or a custom tube frame and completely custom body, I'd make it a race car regardless. These cars were built to go back in the day, and thats what they should be built to do today. Race 'em, oratleast drive 'em. dont store and "collect" for resale value.

I remember this car. Was for sale on ebay not too long ago I think. Great Pro Modder!

All right, thanks.
Sorry for the car... French can be (mostly ?) stupid too...
sauciflard2901 5 years ago
You're right. In fact I think I don't like this (Don't be angry about that...) because I think the car is'nt really the same after... and thank for teach me the utility of the additional spoiler (it's a true thank)But please remember that all French are not like me, and you're again right when you say I know nothing about that (France haven't got muscle car like USA).I understood what you mean and sorry for my obnoxious/too quick comment. I'm not coward,I just understood my mistake.
sauciflard2901 5 years ago
No worries. I am still a little bit annoyed that one of your contrymen bought this very popular race car and took it out of the U.S.A. and then shipped it back to the U.S.A. and then supposedly ran out of money and abandoned the car at the shop he took it to. No offense intended to you.
OneBadSuperbird 5 years ago
Okay... Take it easy...
I just find it a few strange... a few too big on the rear (I don't mean the traditional spoiler, but the modification just on the top of "Plymouth", under the spoiler...)
I just prefer Superbird without any modification, I think...
Sorry if you are angry, it was just my personal opinion.
sauciflard2901 5 years ago
I'm certainly not angry but it's quite obvious that you know NOTHING about Pro Mod drag racing. If you did, you would know that the additional rear spoiler is necessary to keep the rear of the car on the ground at speeds in excess of 200 MPH. You shouldn't be so quick to judge other people's cars. I think that's why you Frenchies have such a bad reputation for being obnoxious.

!!AWSOME!! What a Beast! Sweet ride! Wonder if it's street legal?
GKaly 5 years ago
The car was not even close to being street legal. It was a totally purpose-built tube chassis Pro Mod drag car. Some dude from France bought it, had no clue what he was doing and ended up parting the car out.

(From a French Mopar's lover...)
What did you do with this car. Poor superbird, it's horrible... :(
sauciflard2901 5 years ago
Ummmmmmm...WHAT'S horrible? There's not one single part on that car that came off of an original Superbird. You French people are really weird. In answer to your question, one of YOUR French countrymen bought the car and completely butchered it up and the car no longer exists.
OneBadSuperbird 5 years ago
Buy a GLOBE mate!! The car is BRITAIN and in one piece. It may not have the orginal engine..but its all there.
jasonv8 3 years ago
I have a globe! In fact, it's one of them globes that have various different stones for each country. Nice piece except for the fact that it was made in China! As for the TBB, it may be in Britain now but it went to someone in France. The story was that he left the car or pieces of the car at the late Dick Landy's shop in California.
